How to solve/workaround the problem without the collateral damages until
someone QUIRK this bug with a U32U wapf patch to http://lxr.free-
electrons.com/source/drivers/platform/x86/asus-nb-wmi.c

a) If you blacklisted the asus_nb_wmi module, please UNblacklist it

b)Create and edit asus_nb_wmi.conf file with this command: sudo echo
options asus_nb_wmi wapf=1 | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/asus_nb_wmi.conf

c)reboot

2013-10-18 Thread pixolex
I've just found the problem!!!

And the problem is... THE MODULE: asus_nb_wmi

After blacklist the asus_nb_wmi module the 0: asus-wlan: Wireless LAN
is gone from rfkill list and wireless works again!!!

sudo rfkill list all
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no

The collateral damages are that the Fn keys are gone also, since this
module is for that.

In this mail (http://lwn.net/Articles/429993/) we can read: I hope this
series won't break anything, because there are a lot of change.

Is Mr. Corentin Chary the father of this bug?

No luck, no change, exactly the same problem: Wireless is dead!

0: asus-wlan: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
1: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: yes

I think I'll have another 6 month period with a old kernel, since saucy
e coming. Worst, I'll not have video decoding acceleration in hardware
with a old kernel.

What can I do more without bisect?

I'm pretty sure that this is a linux kernel bug and not a modemmanager
bug.

** Package changed: modemmanager (Ubuntu) = linux (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1173681] Re: AR9285 ath9k not working after updating to ubuntu 13.04 Raring (linux 3.8.0-19-generic)

2013-04-30 Thread pixolex
The new kernel (v3.9-raring) doesn't totally fixed the bug, some times
it works, some times it doesn't work.

When it works:
- the wi-fi led stays off after boot;
- the wi-fi led simply doesn't work even if I use Fn-F2 or sudo rfkill
block/unblock all, but the interface connects and disconnects form my wi-fi
router;
- rfkill list shows just one interface:
1: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no

When it doesn't work:
- the wi-fi led is on after boot;
- the wi-fi led turns on and off if I use Fn-F2 key or sudo rfkill
block/unblock all;
- rfkill shows two interfaces:
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
 Soft blocked: no
 Hard blocked: yes
1: asus-wlan: Wireless LAN
 Soft blocked: no
 Hard blocked: no

I'm trying to find why it randomly works, if there's any sequence of
restart/shutdown that makes it work.

I think the bug is not fixed, and I'm marking it as kernel-bug-exists-
upstream

I've tried also the V3.9-raring kernel and the behaviour is the same.

I think I've found something.

The USB PEN works when connected to USB 2.0 port and don't work when
connected to USB 3.0 port.

The pen don't pass from the mass storage device to GSM device. That can
be seen by the led color flash sequence: with USB 2.0 port 1 - flash
red, 2 - flash blue and finally 3 - flash blue; with USB 3.0 port 1 -
flash red and finally flash blue. This sequence is the pen changing
modes, like is seen in the logs with 3 to 5 seconds between flashes.

A big thanks to the Kind Soul!

I'm the kind soul mentioned above.

The upstream distribution includes Debian build rules, it's a relatively
simple matter to actually make the packages.

I can be the intermediary if need be. I will forward the bug report to
 the zint developers.

[Bug 178872] Re: bluetooth led always on

2009-11-08 Thread pixolex
I have exactly the same problem in my ASUS W5F and 9.10 Karmic Koala
freshly installed. The WIFI/BLUETOOTH hardswitch turns off both the BT
and WIFI leds. When I try to soft disable them with the gnome tray icons
just the WIFI led is turned off, the BT led always stays on.

[Bug 363783] Re: [i945] TV-out don't work with intel 945GM and Compiz

2009-07-11 Thread pixolex
I've found the problem, it's like Gordon Jin (upstream) said, the
problem it's with the virtual resolution when it's equal or higher than
2048.

I've tested every thing again in jaunty and Karmic alpha 2, but this
time with a sum of resolutions shorter than 2048 (1024x768 + 800x600;
800x600 + 800x600; 1024x768 + 640x480) and I could play films and use
the 3D effects of compiz.

So, this bug is, more or less, a collateral effect of this bug

[Bug 363783] Re: [i945] TV-out don't work with intel 945GM and Compiz in Jaunty

2009-06-27 Thread pixolex
I've tested the Karmic Alpha 2 Live CD and the white problem is now a
black problem. After the S-Video cable attached to my laptop, configured
the position of the 2 properly detected monitors in gnome-display-
properties, updated automatically the xorg.conf with the respective
virtual resolution and , finally, logout and login, the two displays
(laptop and TV) were black. It's just possible to see the mouse arrow
moving and a thin (1 pixel wide) line of the desktop in the left side of
the laptop screen, all the rest of the desktop (laptop and TV) was
black.

If the option is mirror it works, the laptop changes to 1024x768, like
the TV, and it seems the 3D effects are working. I couldn't test the
video because there are no VLC in the repos.

Upgraded yesterday to jaunty RC and I have the same problem. I followed
the indications from

(tracker-processes -r) and finally the indexing stoped, but now I don't
have the icon any more. I'll try reboot.

[Bug 363783] [NEW] TV-out don't work with intel 945GM and Compiz in Jaunty

2009-04-19 Thread pixolex
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -
About Ubuntu.
Description:Ubuntu 9.04 (Release Candidate upgraded from Ubuntu 8.10)
Release:9.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy packagename'
or by checking in Synaptic.
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.6.3-0ubuntu9

3) What you expected to happen
After attached the S-Video cable to my laptop, configured the position of the 2
properly detected monitors in gnome-display-properties, updated automatically
the xorg.conf with the respective virtual resolution and , finally, logout and
login, I expected to have an expanded dual monitor desktop with my laptop and
TV (to see fancy films with my laptop in the TV :P).

4) What happened instead
First,
I did every thing what I described in point 3, and all I got was a white screen
in the TV and in the laptop. If I made alt-tab I also got some little icons,
but every thing around was white.

Secondly,
I manually edited xorg.conf, erased the virtualscreen resolution and booted
again without the TV attached. I disabled all the desktop effects and tried
every thing again, and, more or less, it worked. The bigest problem is that I
can't open any film with this configuration, any video application crash
silently when trying to play a film.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 190414] Re: Clocksource tsc unstable add 10 seconds to the boot time.

2008-04-27 Thread pixolex
SAIVANN:

I added clocksource=hpet and erased quiet and after some normal
reboots removed the clocksource=hpet and added the quiet (in the
menu.lst of course)

Now, the same problem again. But just simply removed the quiet from
the boot line in the menu.lst and every thing is normal.

What the hell trigger the problem??

[Bug 190414] Re: Clocksource tsc unstable add 10 seconds to the boot time.

2008-04-26 Thread pixolex
I had the same problem, but not any more, and don't no why?!?

I made the clocksource=hpet trick and erased the QUIET option in the
kernel line at grub, every thing worked ok...not the 30 sec infinite
waiting any more...

But now i have every thing by default and the 30 sec waiting IS GONE,
like it never happen!! Why?

Does the kernel healed it self after the clocksource thing?

[Bug 149791] Re: Black White Video Output (Gutsy)

2008-01-15 Thread pixolex
Just to confirm the bug.

I think it's a WMV video that triggered the black white bug. Just made
a xorg-intel upgrade this days.

Delete vlc and totem settings it's a workaround.
