[Bug 819144] Re: [fglrx] everything is black and blinks when using unity
This is loosely related, and since this bug has been already fixed, please report a new one. 2011/10/15, Jaime Fernando Ortega Culaciati jaimefort...@gmail.com: I don't know what's happening, my session works perfectly... but the problem is that this happens when I use the Guest Account :S, the problem is the same, should i create another report? -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/819144 Title: [fglrx] everything is black and blinks when using unity To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nux/+bug/819144/+subscriptions -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/819144 Title: [fglrx] everything is black and blinks when using unity To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nux/+bug/819144/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 819144] Re: [fglrx] everything is black and blinks when using unity
I can confirm that, as Gyula Pataki wrote, recent upgrades plus Catalyst 11.8 fixes this. Note that the compiz-testing PPA is not needed, at least in my case I got it working without this PPA (which was empty at the moment). Moreover, the fglrx from ubuntu repository still does not work with unity, so I guess we just need to wait until it's pushed to repos (or alternatively download 11.8 from ADM driver website). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/819144 Title: [fglrx] everything is black and blinks when using unity To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nux/+bug/819144/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 819144] Re: [fglrx] everything is black and blinks when using unity
@Jamie: I do have tried both this tricks, and still no luck! Luckily the 11.8 from website works. But I guess this may be card-specific, so this is rather unrelated to this bug, which seemed to originate from Unity.

[Bug 819144] [NEW] everything is black and blinks when using unity
Public bug reported: I am using Ubuntu Oneric. Recent updates (where recent means the last two weeks, I can't say when exactly it happened) broke my desktop completely. Every part of the screen, I mean every button, label, checkboxes and other interface widgets, the panel, launcher, desktop itselt, window title panels, and probably even more elements turned into black rectangles. In some cases it's a flashing rectangle (launcher is simply black, but the wallpaper behind it flashes when I touch it with my mouse). In case of window titles this is just a black rectangle instead of window decoration. In case of buttons labels etc. they display OK, until I move the mouse over them, then they turn into this black rectangle, and get back to normal when I move the window (sometimes some parts of the window randomly switch back to normal, just as if the window was partially redrawn). In firefox, behavior is similar, but everything gets black when I scroll the page, and returns to normal when I switch the tab. In terminal, all characters I type are black rectangles and are not seen at all, but it gets redrawn properly when I move the window. The unity panel is not displayed at all (black). I cannot see the desktop itself, it's whole black, unless I open an indicator's menu, when I can see both the full walpaper and the icons. I tried both fglrx from the repos and from ati driver download site, the result is same. Unity2D works okay, and that's what I use temporarily, but I never had problems with unity3D. Note this apport-bug report I collected when using the broken unity3D, hope that will be more useful. [Bug 807306] Re: [oneiric] Keyboard mouse not working in X
Great thanks for workaround in #27, worked for me. I was particularly desperate, for I am testing Ubuntu on a laptop, and here I cannot re- plug keyboard (however, pressing alt+sysrq+R and then alt+ctrl+f1 got me to tty, from where I was able to installlaunch links2 to get to this bug report), which makes this bug very significant. It happened to me right after I have updated libudev and libgudev from 171-0ubuntu4 to 172-0ubuntu1 and rebooted my system. I can also confirm the sound issue is related to this bug: my sound stopped working (pulseaudio was relentlessly restarting), but when I got everything back to work the sound is okay too. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/807306 Title: [oneiric] Keyboard mouse not working in X To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/base-files/+bug/807306/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 642839] [NEW] Evolution adds 'Sent from Ubuntu' signature by default
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Well, it definitely shouldn't add this signature by default. A large number of users is against having such unprofessionally looking, rude, obnoxious and useless signature enabled by default. Let the user choose whether he wants to boast about their OS. [Bug 620566] [NEW] Gtk::Scale.set_draw_value(0) resets the scale's step
Public bug reported: Calling set_draw_value(0) when a scale has a step set (either in a constructor, or using a set_digits() method) resets the step. Steps to reproduce: Create, lets say, a HScale and set it's step to one. Then hide it's value. Gtk::HScale* scale = new Gtk::HScale(0,5,1); scale-set_draw_value(0); Or, alternatively Gtk::HScale* scale = new Gtk::HScale; scale-set_digits(0); scale-set_draw_value(0); What is expected: A horizontal scale, without it's value drawn, which user can set only to integer numbers (since the step is 1). What happens instead: A scale in fact doesn't have it's value drawn, but the user can move it smoothly, continuously, the step is surely much smaller than 1. [Bug 619392] [NEW] playback stops for a very short periods of time when playing ogg files
Public bug reported: When I playback an ogg file in Rhythmbox, sometimes the playback stops for about 100-300 ms. It is actually audible and very annoying. It happens in FIXED places, in all ogg files I have (I mean: for exapmple in file a.ogg it always happens at 00:04 and 00:07, but in file b.ogg at 00:06 and 00:09 sec), but the time between those short pauses is different everywhere and varies from about 2.5 sec to about 4 sec (and it is very annoying because of this high frequency). However, in some parts of most tracks the pauses does not happen at all, even for some longer time (or I cannot hear them). This is present in rhythmbox only, the same file played, for example, through mplayer, sounds perfect. I checked several audio formats for the same bug, but it seems it is present only when playing ogg files. I report this bug against gstreamer, because as far as I know it is responsible for audio playback in rhythmbox, but if I'm wrong, please correct me. [Bug 494699] Re: Does not support current Lucid kernel (2.6.32) or xserver (1.7)
Butt, thanks for sharing your opinion. Well, I've thought of preparing a guide on how to deal with Ati card on Linux. However, I found out that the only step I can recommend is just to use Ubuntu 10.04 (or at least when it will become stable). When I was saying about open-source drivers, I meant 'radeon' and 'radeonhd', which, as far as I know (and that's somehow not surprising at all) are on Ubuntu CD, and in fact everything works out of the box. If someone isn't satisfied with those drivers, he can get the proprietary drivers easily, by the time of release of Ubuntu 10.04 they will be working very well, as it was with almost every previous Ubuntu release. I do share Tim's hope, that open-source drivers will get as good as it is possible. I am also avoiding any form of closed software, and I really like the fact ATI shares with hardware specs. I must agree part of users DO have trouble with those cards, but in my opinion there is nobody to blame - Ati supports open-source drivers, and they do try making their drivers as good as they can, open-source drivers' developers are doing their best; I think everything is on a very good way to improve this - not really satisfying - situation. By the way, I am really surprised I am one among the very few who do not complain about open-source drivers, I think you may just have a fake impression of everyone complaining, for only the ones who have some trouble with them write about it in the net. In fact I know a lot of users who doesn't have any problems with open-source drivers. And, in fact, as they are working well, Ubuntu developers DID put them in the operating system (which DID solve the problem, at least in my case) (if you don't mean some other open-source drivers, I have X's 'radeon' on my mind :) [they are open-source, aren't they?] ). -- Does not support current Lucid kernel (2.6.32) or xserver (1.7) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/494699 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 494699] Re: Does not support current Lucid kernel (2.6.32) or xserver (1.7)
Really? I have been using Ati cards since I remember and I have never had any serious trouble with it. Yes, AMD is to be blamed for the damned fglrx, but, seriously, I, personally, do not complain. For some time I used fglrx, then I moved to open-source drivers (due to this bug) and I found out they are working perfectly... I used to have some trouble with them, because of some tiny bugs, but I can get great performance and everything I could wish... I do agree some people may be disappointed by poor support for their cards in Ubuntu, but you can't say everyone with Ati card will have lots of trouble... If you are conscious enough, you can avoid any trouble and gain full support. Maybe not for the lastest and hottest cards, but as in my case, it IS possible even to play the newest games. In my opinion the open-source drivers are not as bad as many people claim, and also fglrx is not as trouble-causing as it looks like. I think people are over-complaining about Ati cards, as from my experience, and from what I know from the Internet, they just have a terrible stereotype, while the truth is that they are usable (but getting them to work sometimes requires some work). -- Does not support current Lucid kernel (2.6.32) or xserver (1.7) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/494699 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 534682] [NEW] [IDT 92HD73C1X5] Surround sound lost after few updates in Lucid Lynx
Public bug reported: When I had Karmic Koala installed on my laptop, surround sound worked perfectly. Then, I updated to Lucid Lynx. At first I experienced no trouble concerning surround sound, but after few updates I lost surround - now I have only stereo output, and no signal at surround outlets. I wonder what might have gone wrong, I included some debugging info collected by apport, if there is any other way I can help diagnosing this bug, please inform me. A strange symptom I observed: In gnome-volume-control, in output tab, I have two sliders: one for panning right-left, and second for front-rear. The first one works correctly, while the second one not: as I am sliding it, master volume goes down, quickly but gradually (to zero), and the slider I moved gets back to center (starting position). I don't know if it is meaningful information, but I hope it will help. I have no idea what to think about it, I will help you diagnosing as much as I can, and I hope this problem will be fixed soon. I have the same issue. As you can see on my bootchart it's exacly the same. By the way (I don't think it's a bug in ureadahead), may I ask why does ureadahead takes only 50% of 'disk utilisation'? I confirm. I get the same bug installing the fglrx driver.
