[Bug 1514357] [NEW] Opening new windows or menus (e.g. "File") in programs, switching workspaces becomes slower and slower over time in Gnome
Public bug reported: During normal use, opening new windows, opening dropdown menus (e.g. "File", "View" in any program) becomes increasingly slow in Gnome. [Bug 1512640] [NEW] UX32VD: Touchpad does not turn off when using keyboard fn-key combination, although indicator is shown
Public bug reported: After upgrading from Ubuntu 15.04 to ubuntu 15.10, I have noticed that using the laptop hotkey (I am using an Asus UX32VD ultrabook, and the hotkey combination is fn-F9) to turn off the touchpad does not work. The indicator, a touchpad image with an X in the corner, does show up, and the indicator cycles correctly. However, this does not actually turn off the touchpad. However, going into the Gnome settings ("Mouse & and Touchpad") and clicking the Touchpad to off does actually turn off the touchpad. Interestingly, if pressing the hotkey combination when having this window visible shows the "Off/On" key switching properly also in the window, but again, the touchpad still works when the indicator is in the Off position. [Bug 1392016] Re: [Asus UL30VT] Backlight control does not work
Hi Christopher, thanks for your continued help. The command echo 8 /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness does set the brightness to a very low value (basically completely black). This was done with the acpi_backlight=vendor kernel parameter in use. Rebooting with just kernel parameter video.use_bios_initial_backlight=0 does not change anything (indicator bubble pops up, backlight level doesn't actually change). Rebooting with just kernel parameter video.use_native_backlight=1 does not change anything (indicator bubble pops up, backlight level doesn't actually change). This did work: Creating a new file in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/80-backlight.conf and pasting into it the following code: Section Device Identifier Intel Graphics Driver intel Option AccelMethod sna Option Backlight intel_backlight # use your backlight that works here BusID PCI:0:2:0 EndSection The backlight control now works properly (indicator bubble and proper backlight change). Furthermore, it is now possible to turn off the touchpad by using the function key (the indicator bubble does show up). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1392016 Title: [Asus UL30VT] Backlight control does not work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1392016/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have now tested the very latest kernel, version 3.19 rc 1 (from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.19-rc1-vivid/), and backlight control still does not work. [Bug 1176007] [NEW] kupfer crashes with segmentation fault
Public bug reported: After upgrading from Precise to Raring (13.04), kupfer only works for a couple of seconds at a time. I can still start applications during these first seconds, as well as starting (bringing it into view) kupfer with the keyboard shortcut, but after a certain time it seg faults. I am running kupfer version 0+v208-2. I am running XFCE v. 4.10.0-4ubuntu1. I ran kupfer with the debug option (kupfer --debug), and got a few different types of errors (after repeated runs). The error was not the same every time, but mostly it was just Segmentation fault (core dumped). Another error that occurred once (out of maybe 10 tests) was ... [Bug 815996] Re: Desktop occasionally freezes/locks up when switching workspaces
Yesterday I used Unity in 12.04 a whole working day (about 8 hours) without getting the freeze on desktop switches or exposé-switches. However, since I switched from XFCE, I think the desktop was still managed by XFCE, since there was no desktop background on my Unity desktop. My feeling is that that shouldn't matter for whether or not the present bug happens. Compiz was managing the desktop, and all the usual functions worked. The transitions between workspaces were always snappy, and as said, I got no freezes or crashes. My computer is still a bit too weak to really handle Unity though, so I'm back with XFCE from now on. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/815996 Title: Desktop occasionally freezes/locks up when switching workspaces To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/815996/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 815996] Re: Desktop occasionally freezes/locks up when switching workspaces
I have switched to XFCE to get rid of the crashes that I experienced in both Unity and Gnome 3, and the freeze in Unity. However, I logged in to unity just now, and tried to switch workspaces several times. No freeze, and much snappier than before. However, I think my test was too short to actually be sure that the bug has been fixed. [Bug 880768] Re: The whole window manager sometimes freezes when switching workspaces or when opening the workspace switcher
Sorry for not replying in a while. I switched to Gnome 3 classic to avoid this problem in unity, and because performance of unity on my computer was a bit sluggish. [Bug 878820] Re: Keyboard shortcut - The grid keybindings are behaving inconsistently
I fully agree with #16, I think the old behavior makes the grid plugin *very* useful when arranging several windows on the same workspace. Just making everything occupy half the screen isn't as useful. I like to get the Ubuntu really is much more useful than Windows 7 feeling. For example, maybe I want Firefox to occupy 75% of the screen (so I can use the Treestyle tab addon to put my tabs on the left side of the window and still see the web page I'm on), and then keep a text editor on the left side. With the old behavior, this just required a couple of ctrl+alt+6 and ctrl+alt+4 to get it *just right*, whereas with the new behavior I have to drag stuff around with the mouse and probably won't get it *just right*. I like the old behavior. Why not have an option to activate it in CCSM? Both easy for newcomers, and easy to activate for people that want it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/878820 Title: Keyboard shortcut - The grid keybindings are behaving inconsistently To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/878820/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 880775] Re: After switching back to a workspace, the therein previously active application is sometimes not visible
This can sometimes reproduce the problem (it at least shows a related one, that application windows sometimes move to other workspaces when you switch workspaces) 1. Have an application (Firefox, for example) open full screen in one workspace (for example the lower right corner one) 2. Use the workspace switcher to switch to the workspace to the left (lower left corner one) 3. The firefox window is now visible in the left lower workspace too, but is not interactive there. 4. Switch back to the lower right corner workspace by using CTLR+ALT+rightarrow or the workspace switcher. The active application is now (sometimes) not visible in the original workspace, or is noninteractive. I am not exactly sure how it is reproduced perfectly, but will see if I can add more information when I see the problem again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/880775 Title: After switching back to a workspace, the therein previously active application is sometimes not visible To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/880775/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 880768] [NEW] The whole window manger sometimes freezes when switching workspaces or when opening the workspace switcher
Public bug reported: After starting to use Oneiric, I have noticed that the window manager system freezes from time to time when switching workspaces or when opening the workspace switcher. The window almost switches to the other workspace, before the whole screen freezes. I can't exactly replicate the exact time when this happens. It has also happened when opening the workspace switcher, and (I think) when using the circle application switcher from the Compiz plugin. I can still move the mouse and hear sound from the speakers, but I can't interact with anything on screen. I can still access the tty terminals with ctrl+alt+F2 (for example), and kill the X process (/usr/run/X :0 ... a relatively long string with auth, something/lightdm/something and so on) to go back to the login screen. It looks like the animation or drawing of the windows stops too early, and the desktop is then noninteractive. It might happen more frequently when the system has a high CPU load. I did not notice these problems when using Natty and Gnome2. [Bug 880775] Re: After switching back to a workspace, the therein previously active application is sometimes not visible
** Description changed: Sometimes when switching back to a workspace which contains an application that was in focus previously, the application is not visible. For example, sometimes when using Firefox in one workspace, and then switching from this workspace and back, the firefox application will not be visible. Either applications that are also running in the same workspace are visible or just the wallpaper. The application is - still running, and switching workspaces a couple of times more makes the - application visible again. It is also possible to select the application - from the left-hand application bar/launcher to make it visible again. - This happens perhaps one or two times in a whole workday of using Ubuntu - 11.10. + still running. It is necessary to select the application from the left- + hand application bar/launcher to make it visible again. I can also add + that the application is still visible in the indicator that is opened + when I switch workspaces with CTRL+ALT+arrow keys. [Bug 878791] [NEW] The Compiz grid plugin does not correctly resize windows for certain keyboard shortcuts
Public bug reported: After upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10 and starting to use Unity, I have noticed that some of the commands from the Compiz Grid plugin do not work like they used to. For example, with CTRL+ALT+KP4 and CTRL+ALT+KP6, it used to be possible to resize window first to cover half the screen, then 25% of the screen, and then 25/2% of the screen. Now, the window only covers half the screen, no matter how many times the shortcuts are pressed. I prefer the old functionality, since it let me easily adjust window sizes to see multiple application windows at once. Additionally, CTRL+ALT+KP9 places the window in the top center part of the screen, instead of the top right part. All these regressions disrupt my work flow and reduce the usefulness of the Grid plugin. [Bug 878029] [NEW] Application menu loses focus while holding ALT
Public bug reported: When using the new application menu, that in Unity is located in the top unity bar, the LyX document processor menu loses focus after ALT is held down for less than a second. For example, if pressing (and holding) ALT, pressing F (to open the file menu) the opened file menu loses focus quickly. Other keyboard shortcuts (to, for example, open a new file using O) then don't work if the mouse pointer isn't moved over to the application menu. [Bug 364699] Re: [PATCH] IR doesn`t work (lirc_igorplugusb)

[Bug 364699] Re: [PATCH] IR doesn`t work (lirc_igorplugusb)
All previously mentioned patches are in the lirc version shipped with maverick. However, in maverick, lirc_igorplugusb still does not work with remotes causing a buffer overflow. The reason is that the ring buffer of the driver is too small, causing events to get lost. (In my case, it sufficed reproducibly for 13 out of 16 bits of actual information, meaning 15 out of 18 pulses.) As that is no integer factor, it seems some timing changed that now causes the buffer to be full (and writing failing), while it didn't before. Anyway, the buffer needs to be 36 (DEVICE_BUFLEN) codes (=18 pulses) plus one pulse for the gap since the last signal, instead of the same in bytes. Increasing the buffer fixes it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/364699 Title: [PATCH] IR doesn`t work (lirc_igorplugusb) -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 682128] Re: Webcam fails to initialize 25% and flickers 75% of remaining times
I don't have the flickering, although the video freezes up while using Skype after a few minutes. and I see 5 new messages each time from the kernel log: 5x [time index] uvcvideo: Failed to resubmit video URB (-27). this only affects the maverick kernels (2.6.35+) maybe a little earlier as the lucid kernel (2.6.32), which I've reverted back to for a while doesn't have this issue from what I can tell. (my workaround for reverting is simply move the 2.6.35 kernel out of /boot then run update-grub thus it only detects my younger 2.6.32 kernel, and then reboot) ** Tags added: kernel-series-2.6.35 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682128 Title: Webcam fails to initialize 25% and flickers 75% of remaining times -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 705178] [NEW] pam_namespaces and --make-shared vs mountall
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mountall I'm using pam_namespaces in my PAM configuration (mainly to have /tmp and /var/tmp mapped into my encrypted $HOME, so that private temp files do not end up on the not yet encrypted root partition). However, having different namespaces means that udisks will run in a different namespace than my user, so it will mount removable drives (like DVD) in the other namespace than mine - resulting in e.g. the file manager being unable to open the newly mounted (but yet unreachable) directory. To solve this, I created another /media mount point on /tmp and was planning to call mount --make-shared on it, to make these mounts show through. Googling a little, I found that none /media tmpfs defaults, noexec, nodev, auto 0 0 none /media none make-shared 0 0 should solve my issue - which mount -a confirms to be correct. However, mountall has two issues: it will ignore all lines except the last for the same mount point, and it will do nothing with fstype = none, since such a file system is indeed unknown - it does not understand the special syntax. ** Affects: mountall (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/705178 Title: pam_namespaces and --make-shared vs mountall -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 364699] Re: [PATCH] IR doesn`t work (lirc_igorplugusb)
Hi guys, can we please re-close the bug? There's nothing anymore on the software side that can be fixed. The Igorplug has a ring buffer of limited length. If your remote control sends sequences that are longer than that (e.g. like my Onkyo RC 242S), then the buffer overrun is bound to happen each time the remote sends a button press. My proposed patch thus removed the error message (because it doesn't provide any further help), but the author of lirc decided to leave it in. My proposed patch also removed the message if the device said dude actually on second thought I don't have data for you (the GET_INFRACODE: error 0 message). The author accepted that on second try (that's what's in r1.35). So the original fix for this bug only made sure as much information as available would be returned, just as in the w32 driver (it previously returned only the part that was neither overwritten nor overwrote something, the part that overwrote something was missing). tl;dr: the driver is as good as it gets except for useless messages. If the recording tool doesn't work for you, then you still can use mode2 to get the pattern for each key press and then manually derive an lircd.conf file from it. -- [PATCH] IR doesn`t work (lirc_igorplugusb) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/364699 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 475530] Re: KIMPanel is unusable in Kubuntu 9.10
It seems that Lucid Alpha2 did not fix this bug, and I cannot make it work even I copy what Chen had done. Note that the panel.py script is installed as /usr/lib/ibus/ibus-ui-kde, so you have to adapt the path. It /kinda/ works with that. Kinda means: if you add the panel widgets, you will have two popups that you can move around, or you will have the whole shebang in the panel plus one popup. The config button does nothing at all, not does any config entries show up in systemsettings. The spam icon can be hidden using the Icon Filter menu. When no IM is activated, a broken images is shown. And now I tried around with using -p /bin/echo - a plasma crash later and now I can't select anything at all anymore (unless using the gtk ui).
