I noticed when installing the 4.2.0 kernel image there was an error
about my video cards firmware.

W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/radeon/TAHITI_vce.bin for

Perhaps this has something to do with it?

I was wrong, the 3.19.0-22 kernel has not fixed the problem. I can't guess what
has changed other than that.
I had another bug report when I first encountered this in 15.04, bug #1461320

After rebooting into a previous kernel (3.19.0-22) it seems the issue is
resolved. I assume this means a change between there and kernel 4.0.0-4.

[Bug 1473596] [NEW] resume from suspend fails, works thereafter

2015-07-10 Thread rob loranger
Public bug reported:

when I resume from suspend the system drops back to suspend before the
display can fully come back up. if I then try a second time it works,
but the wireless connection is dropped and can only be re-connected via
the connect to hidden network option in unity's network manager.

I had this problem previously in 15.04 and finding no solution I
switched to 15.10 where the issue had resolved. since updating,
presumably the kernel, the problem has resumed in 15.10.

I will boot in to my most recent prior kernel and see if the problem
persists.

let me know any other information I can provide.

[Bug 1461320] Re: first resume fails after suspend

2015-06-24 Thread rob loranger
yes that is correct. i had no issues with 14.04.
i gave up though, i switched to a clean 15.10 and am having no issues now. i
tried a clean 15.04 first but ran into a few issues installing/booting and
decided if i was going to experience bugs they might as well benefit the alpha
development.

so thanks for your help anyway, it doesn't seem to be an issue for
anyone else at the moment so your time is probably better spent
elsewhere. :)

2015-06-21 Thread rob loranger
well that was fun.
with the 4.1 kernel and the proprietary drivers i was trapped in cli. much fun
there.

i disabled the proprietary drivers, including the amd microcode that i
forgot i enabled. after which is still had no luck with the 4.1 kernel.

i did however boot just fine with the 3.13 kernel so i will test as is
for a while to see if the issue persists, if so i will then try the
proprietary video driver again for you.

3.13.0-48 kernel and the issue is still present. any ideas on what to
check?

[Bug 1461320] Re: first resume fails after suspend

2015-06-04 Thread rob loranger
same result with rc6 as with rc4. the wireless network resumes but the
system suspends immediately the first time, then the second it resumes
normally. I did notice that with the 4.1 kernels when resume is final;y
successful the pointer is temporarily replaced by a square of
multicoloured pixels, almost like pretty static.

[Bug 1461320] [NEW] first resume fails after suspend

2015-06-02 Thread rob loranger
Public bug reported:

Ever since I upgraded from 14.04 through to 15.04 I have had an issue
resuming from suspend. The login pops up for a second and then the
computer suspends again. Waking a second time resume is successful.

With kernel 3.13.0 wifi was typically 'broken' upon resume with the only
remedy being to select the network from the connect to hidden wireless
network dialogue. no networks were visible in the network tray menu.

With kernel 4.1.0 rc2 the wifi appears to resume normally but the double
wake is still required.

I will attach more info after i restart with the 3.13.0 kernel

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected trusty

** Description changed:

The new 3.13 kernel that came with kubuntu 14.04 creates some kind of
issue with my internet connection. I get severe lag and stalled
connections. I mostly noticed playing online games but also see package
d/l progress pause/freeze during apt upgrades and sometimes my browser
will not connect. The same day I upgraded there were no issues at all,
now they are there. I found out it must be the kernel as i am currently
using 3.11.0-19 and the issues have vanished.

I think that fixes it, I ran another ping test and saw nothing higher
than 2ms save one random 20ms over a few hundred pings.

[Bug 902839] Re: left click and drag = eratic mouse movement

2011-12-12 Thread rob loranger
i have solved my problem, but created a new one :)

i can now right/left click and also click and drag with perfection using
the following code:

Section InputClass
 Identifier touchpad catchall
 MatchIsTouchpad on
 MatchDevicePath /dev/input/event*
 Driver synaptics
 Option SHMConfig on
 Option JumpyCursorThreshold 150
EndSection

in /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf/10-synaptics.conf

but unfortunately i can no longer scroll, and there are no longer any
settings for scrolling or tap clicking in my mouse settings gui. also
tap to click is no enabled but i don't know how to turn it off.

** Description changed:

- i have installed 11.04 netbook ed. on my hp mini 210. everything is
+ i have installed 10.04 netbook ed. on my hp mini 210. everything is
updated, as far as the update manger wants anyway. i tried the fix
setting it up as a psmouse which worked sort of but then i could not
scroll. so i reverted those changes.

what is happening is when i left click and drag a second finger across
the pad to move the cursor the mouse is all over the map, making it
unusable. if i left click and simply drag that finger up or right, as
those are my only options :) , that works fine. so it must be something
with ignoring my clicking finger once the button is pressed. i thought i
had it fixed setting the jumpy cursor thresh to about 200 but that seems
to no longer be working, which is strange. any ideas?

Section InputClass
 Identifier touchpad catchall
 MatchIsTouchpad on
 MatchDevicePath /dev/input/event*
 Driver synaptics

[Bug 902839] [NEW] left click and drag = eratic mouse movement

2011-12-11 Thread rob loranger
Public bug reported:

i have installed 11.04 netbook ed. on my hp mini 210. everything is
updated, as far as the update manger wants anyway. i tried the fix
setting it up as a psmouse which worked sort of but then i could not
scroll. so i reverted those changes.

what is happening is when i left click and drag a second finger across
the pad to move the cursor the mouse is all over the map, making it
unusable. if i left click and simply drag that finger up or right, as
those are my only options :) , that works fine. so it must be something
with ignoring my clicking finger once the button is pressed. i thought i
had it fixed setting the jumpy cursor thresh to about 200 but that seems
to no longer be working, which is strange. any ideas?

[Bug 902850] [NEW] can't sign into msn with live id *@gmail.com

2011-12-11 Thread rob loranger
Public bug reported:

i am having trouble signing into msn using my live id which is also my
gmail address. maybe that is the problem somehow as i can log in to msn
using an older live id, although that one is @mail.com so i'm not really
sure if that is the problem or not.

when i try to sign in it just sits at signing in, watching from the
accounts dialog, but if i enter an incorrect password i get an
authentication failure as i should. any ideas?

confirmed by logging into live on the web.

[Bug 902850] Re: can't sign into msn with live id *@gmail.com

2011-12-11 Thread rob loranger
i found it, the passwords and keys dialog in accessories. the
credentials for my msn login are both there and correct. as are my gtalk
which is working fine. strange that msn can't get the info from the
keyring but the gtalk handler can. maybe it is a problem with telepathy.
although like i said initially i can login to msn using a different
account.

apparently it is half working. nothing has changed on my end with the
client, but i noticed while logged in with amsn and then trying to log
in with empathy i get kicked on amsn with a message of being logged in
at another location. although it does not actually log in with empathy,
just loops on connecting.

[Bug 902850] Re: can't sign into msn with live id *@gmail.com

2011-12-11 Thread rob loranger
it seems this was an issue previously

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1479005

so i have fixed the issue but it does not lie with empathy, it is with
telepathy-butterfly and the use of certain domain email addresses with
login.

for anyone else with this problem, completely remove telepathy-butterfly
package and restart empathy. everything should work after that, as a
precaution i also removed and re-added my msn account in empathy as
well.
