[Bug 1315565] Re: nss-winbind is returing -1 for supplemental groups

2016-01-19 Thread roelof van der kleij
I applied the patch from upstream to the 4.1.6+dfsg-1ubuntu2.14.04.12
source and recompiled. The patch does indeed fix this issue.

[Bug 1159715] Re: winbind_krb5_locator plugin is missing from winbind 3.6.3

2013-05-17 Thread roelof van der kleij
I noticed this bug while researching symptoms similar to yours. However,
while during logon we occasionally hit the external DC, it reponds
quickly in our case. In the end, I found out the delays were caused by
time sync issues resulting in the client having to request service
tickets for the LDAP queries to the DC's multiple times which in return
resulted in an extremely high number of DNS queries.

The total number of DNS lookups for a single logon + homedir mount runs
into the hundreds because each time all service records are queried
again. It also turned out that every now and than a query would not be
answered, resulting in timeouts. The cumulative DNS timeouts (10-30
timeouts for a single logon session) caused most of the delays.

What does not help here is that Ubuntu uses dnsmasq, but has its
resolver cache disabled. (windows clients do have resolver caches and
need them)

In the end I did three quick fixes pending further investigation:
- I defined my domain controllers as NTP servers in ntp.conf
- I hard coded the DC's in krb5.conf, reducing the number of service records
lookups needed to fild the KDC for the realm;
- I installed a pdns resolver listening on 127.0.0.3 and configured it to
forwarded all queries to the DC's (the disabling of the cache in dnsmasq turned
out to be hard-coded by Ubuntu and I didn't wanted to touch that)

winbind and kerberos is a fragile thing..

[Bug 1159715] [NEW] winbind_krb5_locator plugin is missing from winbind 3.6.3

2013-03-25 Thread roelof van der kleij
Public bug reported:

I noticed the winbind_krb5_locator.so kerberos plugin is missing from
the samba package. Since I could not find any mention of why it is not
included, I report it as a bug.

We are using winbind to authenticate against a microsoft AD, but use
kerberised NFS4 for the home directories. While winbind is site aware,
MIT kerberos is not without this plugin so nfsv4 mounts result in
service ticket requests outside of the site.

We are using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and winbind 3.6.3-2ubuntu2.4

I cannot say. I only recently managed to join precise to our production
domain, so I could not really test DFS functionality before that.

If you have any specific kernel versions you would like me to test, just
let me know.

I'll see what I can do. Lucid contains a few other netapp, kerberos and
samba related bugs which may make testing difficult.

with 3.2.0-23, the bug is already there

with 2.6.32-44-generic, the multiuser mount option does not exist, so I
cannot see the dfs referral for a user logon.

[Bug 1064489] Re: Kernel oops when accessing non existent folder on DFS share

2012-10-09 Thread roelof van der kleij
FYI:
The DFS root is an Windows 2008R2 server
The DFS targets are Netapp Cifs servers

The Ubuntu machine is joined to an Windows 2008R2 domain (upgraded from 2003R2)
using winbind with the idmap_ad backend.
We have a faily large domain containing about 6 accounts.

[Bug 1058016] [NEW] Gnome-settings-daemon fails at login causing a 30s delay

2012-09-28 Thread roelof van der kleij
Public bug reported:

After login either a black screen or the wallpaper is displayed for 30
seconds before the desktop arrives. The desktop is functional, but the
menu bar cannot be edited.

I would expect no delay, and the abillity to add items to the menu bar
etc.

Syslog gives the following entries:
Sep 28 11:30:40 U033321 gnome-session[25272]: WARNING: Application
'gnome-settings-daemon.desktop' failed to register before timeout
Sep 28 11:30:40 U033321 gnome-session[25272]: CRITICAL: We failed, but the fail
whale is dead. Sorry

This is Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS with gnome-settings-daemon 3.4.2-0ubuntu0.4

I am using Light-dm, with gnome-fallback or unity. The workstation is
joined to a Microsoft AD domain using winbind with idmap_ad backend. The
user homedirectories are stored on an NFS4 server which are mounted from
the fstab.

[Bug 970679] Re: [SRU] winbind coredumps when encountering a group with over 1000 members

2012-05-21 Thread roelof van der kleij
Ditto here. getent group large group now works for various groups
1000 and does not crash winbind with the samba version from poposed.

getent group Domain Users now only returns

#getent group Domain Users
domain users:x:5000513:

But this does not crash winbind, which is the main thing.

wbinfo -u still crashes winbind, but I see that as a separate issue, and
it does not hinder normal operations.

With this patch we can join precise systems to our domain again. Thanks!

I did notice doing a wbinfo -u on our 50k+ users AD will crash winbind,
but that is a separate issue I believe.

[Bug 479272] Re: Bug in NetApp Filer SMB protocol implementation make CIFS share unmountable from Ubuntu

2011-03-30 Thread roelof van der kleij
I just tested Lucid with the kerberos version from Sam Hartman's PPA (1.9.0)
and I cannot connect to the netapp cifs share with it, I still get
KRB5KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED back from the netapp.
I then realized the samba version in Wheezy would have a number of netapp
related workarounds applied, which is why it works there.

So, sorry for the noise :-(

[Bug 479272] Re: Bug in NetApp Filer SMB protocol implementation make CIFS share unmountable from Ubuntu

2011-03-29 Thread roelof van der kleij
I was just about to post a bug report on krb-5 when I spotted this bug
report.

Is it certain this is a samba bug? We were hit by it too, And I stumbled
over this thread on the MIT mailing list:

http://mailman.mit.edu/pipermail/kerberos/2010-June/016213.html

Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 are affected (krb 1.8.1) , but the Debian Wheezy
20110328 works with our Netapp (and uses krb 1.8.3).
