[Bug 355157] [NEW] Device /dev/video0 belongs to non-existant group video in Jaunty
Public bug reported: Hi there, When I plug in my webcam (Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Web), everything seems to go well. It is detected properly and a device is registered. Apr 4 00:40:15 frussolx1 kernel: [ 3033.044644] quickcam: Registered device: /dev/video0 The device is owned by root:video, however there does not appear to be a video group by default in jaunty. crw-rw 1 root video 44 81, 0 2009-04-04 10:30 video0 I thought this was strange, so I created a video group and added my user to it. This worked until I re-plugged the camera. Now I see... crw-rw 1 root44 81, 0 2009-04-04 10:30 video0 The device is no longer owned by the video group. Pretty neat...I can chown it to have it work again, but I'd rather find a permanent solution. Relevant /var/log/messages snip. [Bug 355157] Re: Device /dev/video0 belongs to non-existant group video in Jaunty
Clarification Installed Jaunty - No video group exists Plugged in Cam. Cam (/dev/video0) belongs to root:video (though no video group exists) - Cam only accessible by root I create group video, and add user frusso to group. User frusso can now use the cam. Unplug cam, plug in cam. Cam belongs to root:{NULL} . Users cannot access cam. The expected behavior: Plug in Cam, users can access cam (with minimal fuss). Ping me if this is not clear enough. It appears that V4L devices that are created are owned by group video as per /lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules. The issue seems to be that group video does not seem to exist by default in Jaunty (no entry in /etc/group). [Bug 259867] Re: intrepid latest update authentication failed
I tried booting from the liveCD and chrooting into the system on disk. That worked. Then I tried to change the password of my user and rebooting. No dice. We're going to have to find the pam packages that were upgraded, and revert them. Unfortunately, I have little knowledge of apt/dpkg. Basically boot from live cd open terminal sudo su - root mkdir /mnt/chroot mount /dev/XXX /mnt/chroot (where XXX is your linux partition) chroot /mnt/chroot /bin/bash apt-get --something-here-to-revert-pam If you can figure out the last step, props to you. [Bug 91890] Re: Custom DNS settings lost on boot
Good afternoon, I am experiencing the same. Manual network config, set static IP, GW, and netmask. Manually set DNS servers. Upon reboot, the DNS servers revert the ones that would have been picked up by DHCP. Problem is... I'm not using DHCP. I have to configure my DNS servers every reboot. Had the same issue with 7.04. Also, just for the sake of my own sanity... Can someone please explain why this defect is marked incomplete? If you're going to mark a defect as incomplete, please put in a comment as to why. [Bug 70432] Buttons/Buttonmapping not automatically added to xorg.conf
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Good afternoon, After installing 6.10 on my PC, I noticed that buttons 6 and 7 on my Logitec MX-500 were not functional. I had to manually add the following lines to my xorg.conf InputDevice stanza. Option Buttons 5 Option ButtonMapping 1 2 3 6 7 Once added, the buttons functioned normally. The default stanza looked like the following. Section InputDevice Identifier Configured Mouse Driver mouse Option CorePointer Option Device /dev/input/mice Option Protocol ExplorerPS/2 Option ZAxisMapping 4 5 Option Emulate3Buttons true EndSection Relevant section of lsusb: Bus 002 Device 002: ID 046d:c025 Logitech, Inc. MX500 Optical Mouse The expected behavior is that all existing mouse buttons would be functional, and function as the manufacturer intended. [Bug 70446] Logitech, Inc. Internet Keyboard listed as Generic 105-key (Intl) PC in prefs
Public bug reported: Good afternoon, Issue #1 I have installed Ubuntu 6.10 on a PC with the following keyboard attached. Bus 001 Device 002: ID 046d:c309 Logitech, Inc. Internet Keyboard I see in my System -- Preferences -- Keyboard -- Layouts that the following device was detected. Generic 105-key (Intl) PC The expected behavior is that Gnome's Keyboard Preferences would match the make/model of keyboard attached. This would apply on installation, boot, and hotplug events. Issue #2 When I Choose my keyboard model in the System -- Preferences -- Keyboard -- Layouts, I see two Identical entries for Logitech Internet Keyboard in the selections list. The expected result is that there is one Logitech Internet Keyboard, or that there is additional text differentiating the two configurations. Issue #3 When I choose the top Logitech Internet Keyboard in System -- Preferences -- Keyboard -- Layouts -- Choose, then select Close, then return to System -- Preferences -- Keyboard -- Layouts -- Choose, the lower of the two entries for Logitech Internet Keyboard is selected. To restate for clarity, I select the top entry, the system reverts to the bottom entry.
