I feel compelled to agree with Axel and Andreas: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2060780/comments/9 This bug is particularly surprising for a stable release, breaking CIFS is not a pleasant thing to deal with.I tend to stick to the stable builds to avoid things just like this. [Bug 1972159] Re: systemd-oomd frequently kills firefox and visual studio code
For me I have 32GB of ram and it was killing my entire user session and dropping me back to the GDM. (It took me over a week to realise this was happening and I was kicked back to login losing all work at least 15 times, having to log back in produced a lot of log spam that hid the OOM message, I was close to having to reinstall or switch distro to fix it) I was using i3 but this was totally unusable for me and I had to remove the service. Does it just not play nice with applications that grab as much RAM as possible and free it when the system is under pressure? Personally if this isn't fixed and OOM gets turned back on at some point it would be severe enough for me to switch distro. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1972159 Title: systemd-oomd frequently kills firefox and visual studio code To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1972159/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: For ~4 years, this server ran Ubuntu-18.04 with the OS on mirrored SSDs and all persistent data in a zpool on separate disks. Last week I upgraded it. Installation of Ubuntu-22.04 ZFS-root on a new SSD ran flawlessly. But after importing the persistent data pool, update-grub (specifically 10_linux_zfs) found the valid kernels but wouldn't create grub entries for them so /boot/grub/grub.cfg only contained memtest86. 10_linux_zfs's section of grub-mkconfig output is below. The problem turned out to be a FreeBSD backup I'd zfs-send/rec'd to the Ubuntu system 2 years ago. At the time, I added a prefix ("zmule") to all of the FreeBSD filesystems' mountpoints and turned off "canmount". Somehow I missed the *actual* root filesystem so it was still set to mount on '/' with "canmount" enabled - though Ubuntu22.04 wouldn't mount it on top of /, so I never noticed it. However, that's what was confusing /etc/grub.d/10_linux_zfs even though 18.04 was fine with it. Once I changed FreeBSD's root mountpoint to not '/', update-grub ran as expected. I know this is a strange, unusual situation that shouldn't happen, but a missing /etc/os-release file in one root(ish) filesystem shouldn't block it from creating entries for valid ones. If you'd like me to break it again and run 10_linux_zfs with 'set -x' or similar, I'll be happy to do that. (I'm a Linux SRE professionally so breaking stuff is all in a days work.) One more note: the bug submission wouldn't let me use "grub-common" as the package, so I changed that to "grub2" even though, as you can see below, that's not what's installed. === More detail: $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Release:22.04 $ apt-cache policy grub-common grub-common: Installed: 2.06-2ubuntu7 Candidate: 2.06-2ubuntu7 Version table: *** 2.06-2ubuntu7 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ apt-cache policy grub2 grub2: Installed: (none) Candidate: 2.06-2ubuntu7 Version table: 2.06-2ubuntu7 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy/universe amd64 Packages - ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/10_linux_zfs ### Found linux image: vmlinuz-5.15.0-27-generic in rpool/ROOT/ubuntu_lva06t Found initrd image: initrd.img-5.15.0-27-generic in rpool/ROOT/ubuntu_lva06t Found linux image: vmlinuz-5.15.0-25-generic in rpool/ROOT/ubuntu_lva06t Found initrd image: initrd.img-5.15.0-25-generic in rpool/ROOT/ubuntu_lva06t /etc/grub.d/10_linux_zfs: 404: .: cannot open /tmp/zfsmnt.Z7nWCz/etc/os-release: No such file - $ zfs get mountpoint persist/backup/mule-zfs/ROOT/default NAMEPROPERTYVALUE SOURCE persist/backup/mule-zfs/ROOT/defaultmountpoint / local - # oops! [Bug 1100326]
(In reply to Emilio Cobos Álvarez (:emilio) from comment #7) > How does this compare to the portal service that was recently added for > Flatpak and so on? Do we really need both? Portal service is a limited API for Flatpak containers that internally forwards to Geoclue. Without Flatpak runtime that API is not available. In contrast to the portal provider this is a complete, native Geoclue API implementation on a state machine (for handling corner cases, etc.) for use in a standalone Firefox. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1100326 Title: Location requested by websites should be able to use GPS/mobile positioning To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/chromium-browser/+bug/1100326/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Created attachment 9275622 Bug 1063572 - Geoclue2 geolocation provider. r=emilio Add a Geoclue (version 2) geolocation provider. This way Firefox can make use of multiple location sources present in the system, from GNSS provided by a cellular modem or the current network to location based on visible WiFi networks and 3G tower data, all while sharing them with other applications. This is a pure D-Bus-based implementation using a proper state machine, it does not require any additional dependencies.

Affects Xubuntu 22.04 too on Lenovo Ideapad 330s (Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8250U CPU @ 1.60GHz) After about 11 days of using 22.04 release, it lead to major loss of productivity due to the flickering. [Bug 1964851] [NEW] Ubuntu 22.04 (dev-branch) shutdown/reboot hangs
Public bug reported: I have a desktop with MSI-Z690 motherboard and installed Dual boot Windows 11 on SSD and Ubuntu 22.04 dev-branch on HDD (upgraded from 20.04 LTS and this issue exists on 20.04 also) I choose Ubuntu at the first priority boot and Windows 11 is in Ubuntu bootloader. The Windows works fine. But when I power-off Ubuntu, it hangs, and I have to hold the power button for about 5 seconds to shut it down. I set grub to `GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=""` and the last line of log is `reached target system power off` and it will stuck seems forever(I have once waited for 120 mins) By the way, I have another laptop and have a dual-boot on same SSD, everything works fine. So I am not sure if it is a HDD-related issue. How to set my Ubuntu to the really normal behavior? [Bug 1958021] [NEW] Ubuntu Software Center doesn't work with local/mirrored repositories
Public bug reported: Ubuntu Software Center doesn't work with local/mirrored repositories. I mirror the entire Ubuntu repositories to a hard drive every month to use it with a local HTTP server to serve some Ubuntu PCs that have no access to the Internet at all, just to an air-gapped local network. When using the command line via "apt update" and "apt upgrade", everything works perfectly fine, I'm able to update, upgrade, install and remove packages like if I were connected directly to Canonical servers. The problem is that the Ubuntu Software Center doesn't work in this setting. It only says that I'm disconnected from the Internet and it doesn't recognize the local HTTP repository that's configured and the rest of the system uses just fine. Users complain because they prefer to use the more intuitive GUI and that's understandable, but I don't know what else to do so I think this is a bug and no Google result seems to know how to fix this. OS: Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS right now, but the problem was present in past versions also. What I expect to happen: the Ubuntu Software Center recognizes the local HTTP repositories and works. What instead happens: the Ubuntu Software Center doesn't work because it says I'm disconnected from the Internet. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1958021 Title: Ubuntu Software Center doesn't work with local/mirrored repositories To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1958021/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
RE: [Bug 1957199] Re: package python3 3.8.2-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: installed python3 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 4
Thank you for this information about Eric. Unfortunately that is not my only problem. During the build I also got the message "nvidia-340 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 10" and notification that my system was unstable. The resulting system was unable to display the background image and substituted pixel noise. I next got a message that updates were available so I attempted to run the software updates. This again appeared to fail for nvidia-340. I next got a message that a restart was needed to complete the updates, so I restarted the machine. But on trying to restart, after Ubuntu is displayed, I get a stream of text followed by a blank screen. I am completely out of my depth here. Can you advise me on how to report this problem and hopefully how to restore my system?
