@esdeoliveira, I don't have viber installed. I'd be surprised if that's
relevant

2015-04-11 Thread Dean Sas
Possibly relevant, the devices file contains a "PS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"
stanza as well as a "Name="DLL0641:00 06CB:7621 UNKNOWN"" stanza 06cb is
the vendor ID for synaptics.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series according to the laptop sticker.

to carry on working and sometimes it doesn't.

I'm not sure of a pattern, sometimes it seems to happen directly after
logging in, though it has happened at the login screen before. Sometimes
it seems to be triggered by two finger scrolling, in this case the
scrolling always seems to carry on working and usually after scrobbling
- about on the touchpad it seems to start working again.
+ about on the touchpad it seems to start working again. It always seems

[Bug 974342] Re: internet radio stream stops after every song

2014-04-15 Thread Sicco van Sas
Good idea Walter :). I have checked but I'm inconclusive. The Absolute
radio stations changed their policy and are not streaming to my country
anymore (I assume anything outside the UK), so I can't reproduce the
problem. I did tried another radio station and this went just fine. I
guess the problem was due to the malformed playlist as suggested by Mike
in comment #8. Therefor I close this bug.

[Bug 1184262] Re: [logind] stuck in PrepareForSleep, causing network and other services to not resume

2013-10-24 Thread Sicco van Sas
I have the same problem as #33 (julo), where my laptop automatically
goes back to suspend after waking up. I can reproduce this as follows:

I start up my laptop, suspend it the first time, wake it up again and I
can work on it just fine (except for this bug causing me to have no
internet connection). The second time I then suspend and wake up, my
laptop will automatically go back to suspend within 30 seconds (whether
I log in or not). This cycle then continues and I'm forced to reboot in
order to fix it. Note that this happens whether I do or do not use
temporary internet connection fix 'sudo nmcli nm sleep false'.

Is this bug related, or should I (and julo) start a new bug report?

I can confirm that the command 'sudo nmcli nm sleep false' works as a
temporary fix (it only works when running it using sudo).

[Bug 651586] Re: Mozilla Thunderbird and Firefox spellcheck has too many languages

2013-08-08 Thread Sicco van Sas
madbiologist, yes this still occurs on Ubuntu 13.04 with Firefox 23. I
have a laptop with the English and Dutch languages installed and the
default available spell checking languages in Firefox are 6 versions of
Dutch (Dutch Belgium, Dutch Antilles, Dutch Suriname, Dutch Aruba, Dutch
Dutch and Dutch while I only need one version of Dutch and 4 versions of
English (English UK, English USA, English South Africa, English
Australia) while I only want the UK and USA versions. Note that I
specified these preferences in Ubuntu's language settings (though these
settings show a different selection of language varieties, e.g. only 1
Dutch version and no English South Africa, but does list English Canada
and English New Zealand).

[Bug 1134565] Re: 0ac8:c002 [Sony VAIO VGN-FE21M] Green/garbled/black webcam [0x0ac8 0xc002] output

2013-08-04 Thread Sicco van Sas
Christopher, I am no longer able to help with this problem as the bugged
laptop has broken down (the onboard video chip died). I can't start
Ubuntu's GUI so I can't test the upstream kernel. I added the 'kernel-
unable-to-test-upstream' tag. Thanks for taking the effort to help out
though, hopefully someone else with the same webcam can continue to help
out.

[Bug 1158710] Re: Hardware buttons doesn't adjust monitor brightness

2013-07-21 Thread Sicco van Sas
This bug affects my Lenovo E530 laptop as well. When pressing the
backlight up/down fn keys the backlight is set to the minimum and can't
be changed. The partial fix from comment #2 works (also with a
malfunctioning indicator, which only jumps between 2 positions).

[Bug 1173150] [NEW] Can't turn off 'Airplane Mode' after toggling hardware wifi switch

2013-04-26 Thread Sicco van Sas
Public bug reported:

Airplane Mode is stuck on 'On' after I turn off + turn on wifi via the
hardware switch on my laptop (Asus N53SV-S1827V), resulting in having no
wifi. If I go to 'Network' and turn off Airplane Mode the switch does
flip visually (though wifi doesn't start connecting), but when I reopen
the Network window the switch depicts Airplane mode to be on again.

I tried 'sudo rfkill unblock all' but this doesn't solve it. I have to
restart my laptop after which Airplane Mode is still on, but now I can
effectively toggle the switch in the Network window. This results in a
crash of the Network window, but wifi starts to connect again and when
reopening the Network window it shows that Airplane Mode is off.

The above behavior doesn't happen when I turn off wifi via the software
switch, so it must be related to toggling the hardware switch.

[Bug 1157707] Re: Podcasts are not shown under my iPod's 'Podcasts' menu

2013-04-24 Thread Sicco van Sas
** Description changed:

- In Banshee, when I transfer a podcast to my iPod classic (6th
- generation) it won't show up under the main menu's 'Podcasts' button. If
- I click on the button nothing happens but the preview-pane on the right
- side of the menu does show that there is a certain number of podcasts
- available (though this number doesn't seem to match with the actual
- amount of podcasts on the device). To find my podcasts I have to
- navigate to 'Music > Genres > Podcast'.
+ In Banshee, when I transfer a podcast to my iPod Nano (3rd generation)
+ it won't show up under the main menu's 'Podcasts' button. If I click on

+ (though this number doesn't seem to match with the actual amount of

+ 'Music > Genres > Podcast'.

This bug has been reported in 2007
  (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/banshee/+bug/140489) and says
to be fixed, but it obviously isn't fixed.

  I'm on Ubuntu 12.04.2 64bit with Banshee 2.4.1-3ubuntu1~precise2.
+
+ *** Update
+
+ I used iTunes on Windows to reset my iPod to its factory settings. I
+ then uploaded music and podcasts to the iPod but both showed weird
+ behavior. The Podcasts again don't show up under the Podcast menu in my
+ iPod, but I also couldn't get them to play via the Music menu (podcasts
+ stayed at 0:00) while the music did play. Both the music and podcasts
+ weren't shown though in Banshee so I couldn't delete them.
+
+ Connecting the iPod to another laptop with Ubuntu 12.04 32bit (lets call
+ this laptop B) and the same version of Banshee (Banshee
+ 2.4.1-3ubuntu1~precise2) did show the music and podcasts. Adding new
+ podcasts on laptop B also fixed my original problem of not seeing them
+ under the Podcasts menu. After this, on laptop A Banshee recognized the
+ music as normal again though the podcast was now indexed in the Music
+ playlist instead of the Podcast playlist. Newly uploaded podcasts again
+ don't show up under the iPod's Podcast menu.
+
+ To recap: Everything works fine on laptop B, though not on laptop A. One
+ explanation I can think of is that I reset the iPod using iTunes on the
+ Windows partition of laptop B and maybe the iPod only 'likes' being
+ altered using laptop B. The idea that my iPod might be picky about its
+ laptop is fueled by sentences from its manual like "If you’re using iPod
+ nano with a Mac and you want to use it with a Windows PC, you must
+ restore the iPod software for use with the PC" and "You cannot switch
+ from using iPod nano with a Mac to using it with a Windows PC without
+ erasing all data on iPod nano". I don't know much about Apple stuff
+ though. As a further test I might do a reset on laptop A to see if my
+ theory is right.

[Bug 1134565] Re: Green/garbled/black webcam [0x0ac8 0xc002] output for Sony VGN-FE21M laptop

2013-04-20 Thread Sicco van Sas
Starting a capture with qv4l2 results in a black window and states 'No
frame' in the margin below it. I indeed get a continuing stream of
errors when running 'dmesg' while capturing via qv4l2 or vlc (see the
attachment). I get no errors though when capturing via 'xawtv', which is
the only program to produce some, though garbled, image (as shown in the
screenshot).

@Joeri: 'apport-collect 1134565' doesn't work as 'v4l-utils' is no
program. On which program do you want me to run apport-bug?

Thanks for helping out!

[Bug 1008539] Re: Wrong volume binding when connecting bluetooth speakers

2013-04-19 Thread Sicco van Sas
This bug is affecting me as well on Ubuntu 12.04 (64 bit). I connect to
a Logitech Wireless Speaker Adapter (http://www.logitech.com/en-
roeu/product/wireless-speaker-adapter?crid=47) via bluetooth so to
stream my audio to the speaker connected to the Logitech device. The
audio switches over to the bluetooth connected speakers just fine, but
the 'Output' in 'Sound Settings' doesn't as it still selects the
standard 'Speakers' of my laptop instead of the '(8D) Logitech Adapter'.
The results is that the volume controls on my keyboard still affect the
internal laptop speakers (accompanied with the Ubuntu 'increase/decrease
volume' *plop* sounds coming out of my laptop speakers) instead of the
audio coming out of my bluetooth connected speakers. Every time I
connect the bluetooth speakers I have to go to 'Sound Settings' and
select '(8D) Logitech Adapter' as output so the volume controls affect
it (the situation just after connecting to the bluetooth device is shown
in the attached screenshot). As suggested by the other people in this
bug, the Output in Sound Settings should automatically switch over to
the newly connected bluetooth audio device.

I attached two logs as requisted by Luke Yelavich. The first log depicts
connecting the bluetooth device. In the second log the bluetooth
connection is already made and I'm pressing the 'decrease volume' keys
several times followed by a series of 'increase volume'. These volume
change thus don't affect the bluetooth connected speaker.

[Bug 1157707] [NEW] Podcasts are not shown under my iPod's 'Podcasts' menu

2013-03-20 Thread Sicco van Sas
Public bug reported:

In Banshee, when I transfer a podcast to my iPod classic (6th
generation) it won't show up under the main menu's 'Podcasts' button. If
I click on the button nothing happens but the preview-pane on the right
side of the menu does show that there is a certain number of podcasts
available (though this number doesn't seem to match with the actual
amount of podcasts on the device). To find my podcasts I have to
navigate to 'Music > Genres > Podcast'.

This bug has been reported in 2007
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/banshee/+bug/140489) and says
to be fixed, but it obviously isn't fixed.

I'm on Ubuntu 12.04.2 64bit with Banshee 2.4.1-3ubuntu1~precise2.

[Bug 898870] Re: Grid placed window overlaps the adjacent viewport

2012-12-19 Thread Sicco van Sas
The bug also affects me on Ubuntu 12.04. If I semi-maximize a window to
the right half of the screen, 2 pixels of the window will show on the
workspace to the right of it. Just like Justyn Butler describes, Alt +
Tab on the workspace to the right shows the window and if selected moves
the window to that workspace.

This bug is reproducible when dragging the window to the right so it
snaps to the right half. This behavior doesn't always occur when using
keyboard shortcuts. If I press Ctrl + Super + Up (maximization) and then
Ctrl + Super + Right, the window will only run over to the right
workspace by 1px (this also removes the Alt + Tab problem!). Pressing
Ctrl + Super + Right after Ctrl + Super + Left or Ctrl + Super + Down
the window runs over by 2px again.

Windows from all programs (nautilus, firefox, terminal) seem to be
affected by this,

it occurs afters suspending and/or hibernating. The command 'killall nm-

[Bug 1016569] [NEW] Rhythmbox doesn't get all podcast episodes

2012-06-22 Thread Sicco van Sas
Public bug reported:

Adding the following podcast
(http://weblogs.vpro.nl/afspelen/category/radio/ovt/feed/) to Rhythmbox
2.96 in Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit results in a new podcast feed which shows
only 2 episodes (one from Sep 4th 2011, and one form Jun 3rd 2012)
instead of all the episodes. In Banshee, adding the podcast lists all
episodes so I guess the feed itself is not the problem.

I have the same problem as described by David. Rhythmbox stops after

2012-04-22 Thread Sicco van Sas
I also have this problem in 12.04 beta 2 (not sure if it happens in
other versions as well). It happens on an Asus N53SV-S1827V. Suspend
results in a non-responsive black screen but the laptop stays on. The
only way out is by shutting the laptop down using the power button. I
fixed this using the code shown in Step 2:

I have the same problem, a loud sound on a regular interval, though I'd
call it more like a whistling sound. The only workaround for me is to
use mplayer or VLC and set their output directly to ALSA HDMI, instead
of pulse. Bypassing pulse seems to fix the problem, but I can't do it

[Bug 573984] Re: Screen brightness can not be adjusted in Lucid with Intel Arrandale graphics

2010-07-10 Thread sas
Well the problem seems to be with the BIOS so the solution varies
greatly between laptop models, unfortunately. But
WorkspaceSwitcherApplet, WindowListApplet and ShowDesktopApplet don't
seem connected to acpi at all (just looking at their names, I assume
they have something to do with Alt+Tab, switching between workspaces and
such), it's strange that they should fail. What did you do exactly?

[Bug 573984] Re: Screen brightness can not be adjusted in Lucid with Intel Arrandale graphics

2010-07-10 Thread sas
Ethan Shalev,

for GRUB2 the file is /etc/default/grub
then "sudo update-grub" (no quotes) to apply changes

my changed line looks like
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi="

As for non-persistent check, when the GRUB boot menu comes press the key
'e', and modify the boot parameters from there. Look for "quiet splash"
and add acpi_osi= after that.

[Bug 573984] Re: Screen brightness can not be adjusted in Lucid with Intel Arrandale graphics

2010-07-10 Thread sas
SOLVED (for my laptop at least - Acer Aspire 5740)

The trick was to add "acpi_osi=" (without the quotation marks) to the
GRUB parameters. Setting the parameter to an empty string means that no
OS is reported to the BIOS. By default acpi_osi is set to Windows NT. I
had previously tried "acpi_osi=Linux" but it didn't work, apparently it
had to be an empty string.

The brightness keys work now :-)
