[Bug 512240] Re: OpenOffice Base (3.1.1 Ubuntu 9.10) hangs while connecting to MySQL tables (ODBC)

2010-05-20 Thread scananza
Hi,
in Karmic I found out the workaround of using the native OOo ODBC driver to
conncect to the MySQL tables and that solved part of the problem. The remaining
part (not solved for me) in Karmic was that DB navigation inside OObase led to
any sort of query error and seeming loss of data (for instance, it said that a
field was empty while it was actually containing data as one could verify
through a simple command line query).

in Lucid all problems are gone for me but I still have to use the native OOo
ODBC driver, the one coming from MySQL is not working even in Lucid and cause
OO to freeze as soon as it attempts to retrieve tables.
At least this is the situation for me; I've tried on 3 different Lucid
installations here in office and the issues are the same.

I'm here if you need some more informations or elucidations.

Thank you a lot.

[Bug 512240] [NEW] OpenOffice Base (3.1.1 Ubuntu 9.10) hangs while connecting to MySQL tables (ODBC)

2010-01-25 Thread scananza
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I've just switched my system from 9.4 to 9.10 and I'm not able to
connect to my SQL tables in OpenOffice via the ODBC subsystem:

I open the odb document, test the connection and everything is fine, it
asks correctly for the password and connects flawlessly; I switch to the
Tables tab and it displays correctly the tables contained inside the
database, BUT, when I try to open a table it freezes, CPU goes 100% and
I have to kill the program.

Needless to say that I cannot use any of the format I use to organize my
database data.

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

[Bug 321932] Re: ghostscript stop rendering with font errors

2009-05-07 Thread scananza
Hello,
I guess I've come across this bug too. I have a Canon LBP5000 working with the
original Canon CAPT driver, version 1.6 (always worked like a charm with
Intrepid); after the upgrade to Jaunty it can still print the test page
correctly but printing from any other program (I tried at least Acroread, Gnome
Doc Viewer and Firefox) fails with the error mentioned above:

GPL Ghostscript 8.64: Unrecoverable error, exit code 1

Is there a workaround to resume printing until a final fix comes out?

I've tried to put the Fontmap in place as described above but it does
nothing on my system.

Please let me know if I can help providing additional infos.

Thank you.

[Bug 366830] [NEW] GTK2 widgets unresponsive on 9.04 (system unusable)

2009-04-25 Thread scananza
Public bug reported:

Hello,
I upgraded my system from 8.10 to 9.04 and after that I couldn't use it
anymore. All GTK2 widgets (buttons, scrollbars etc.) are unresponsive, they
display correctly but don't respond to mouse events; they work fine when
activated by keys, though.
During upgrade I had an error on the linux-restricted-modules package, the
upgrade process completed successfully, though. Thinking I had some trouble
upgrading, I backuped all the data and started a fresh installation from
scratch: no way, installer widgets are also messed up and couldn't go after the
language selection step.
I removed all the proprietary nvidia driver in order to see if that was the
cause but symptoms persist with free drivers too.
I attached to this post some informations, let me know if you need anything
else I can get from command line, the only interface I can get to that system.

Thank you a lot.

[Bug 267371] Re: Damaged OpenOffice files from samba shares

2008-12-22 Thread scananza
Matt, standard linux openoffice (the one you donwload from
openoffice.org) doesn't actually have the SMB module compiled in, so it
cannot access SMB/Windows shares. This feature is usually linked in by
distribution-specific OOo packages and that's where all the troubles
come in I guess...

[Bug 264407] [NEW] floating objects show wrong anchor position when zooming a calc document

2008-09-03 Thread scananza
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I noticed that if I insert a floating object (an image, for instance)
inside a OOo calc document and then I change the zoom of the page, the
cell it's anchored to will slip along the object border and it will
eventually cover and hide other portions of the document (see image
attached) making it difficult to read on video (on print it shows up
correctly).

[Bug 239769] Re: Openoffice: unable to modify .odb documents after 2.3-2.4 upgrade

2008-06-18 Thread scananza
I'm using sun-java6 6-06-0ubuntu1...

I'm also experiencing this bug while opening calc files:

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/32500

I guess the problem could be related to accessing files through
networking (smb)? On windows platform with standard OOo community 2.4.1
installation the same files are accessed and saved properly.

Anyway, after this morning update to 2.4.1-1ubuntu1 I'm stuck with this
new issue:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org-
amd64/+bug/236676

and cannot obviously make more tries on the original problem. It seems
that my linux openoffice is pretty messed-up... :^(

[Bug 239769] [NEW] Openoffice: unable to modify .odb documents after 2.3-2.4 upgrade

2008-06-13 Thread scananza
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

After upgrading my OOo setup from 2.3 to 2.4 (ubuntu gutsy-hardy), I
cannot modify .odb documents anymore.

What I do is the following:

- open a .odb file
- open a form inside the file, the writer interface appears
- modify the form in any way (adding text, menus, anything)
- save the new form and close the writer
- save the .odb file and close

If I now try to reopen the .odb file a filter selection dialog appears
as If OOo couldn't determine the content of the file. Any filter I
choose ends up with an I/O error so the file is permanently lost.

Luckily I had backups of my forms and keeping use them, but, for work, I
need to modify these forms as soon as possible and I cannot do this, for
now.

Hope a fix is possible or I will have to downgrade.

Thank you a lot.

[Bug 238807] [NEW] Listboxes don't show item while Comboboxes do

2008-06-10 Thread scananza
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I had a couple of forms made in OOo base that have Listboxes in order to
show, in a popdown menu, data from a MySQL db. Things did run just
smooth until OOo 2.3 (ubuntu 7.10); after upgrade to 8.04 and OOo 2.4:

Listboxes didn't show menus anymore (no changes were made to base file
after upgrading), they just have an empty list;

changing listboxes with comboboxes works, BUT, after .odb file is saved,
if I try to reopen it, OOo complains it's a file type it doesn't
recongnize and propose to choose a filter, there's no filter for base
documents so I'm stuck with a document I cannot use.

This bug is driving me crazy since I cannot fix the menus without
corrupting the file itself.

Any help will be much appreciated, thanx!

[Bug 164589] Re: Occasional screen-wide blink when using opengl apps (compiz also) and Nvidia cards

2008-05-24 Thread scananza
Hello,
I'm experiencing this problem as well with my Geforce 8500 GT on a standard
ubuntu hardy 8.04 with Compiz enabled. When cpu/gpu are loaded enough the
monitor blinks and everything but the mouse (the cursor still can be moved) is
locked hard: the system seems to be responsive and a ctrl+alt+del can exit
session.
I've the new nvidia driver (169.12) installed through the envyng subsystem,
I've tried to add the:

options nvidia_new NVreg_Mobile=1
NVreg_RegistryDwords=PerfLevelSrc=0x

to the /etc/modprobe.d/options and /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-kernel-nkc
but the nvidia-settings still keeps telling me that Adaptive Clocking is
enabled and Performance Level is 0. Isn't this module option supposed to
DISABLE dynamic clocking and to raise to Performance Level 2?

Is there a way I can check that those options are effectively passed to
the module as soon as it's loaded into the kernel?

Thank you.

I've checked out the jumper, it's correctly closed on MAster; the cable
has the long edge connector attached to the MB and the opposite side is
stuck into the CDROM, the central connector is free.

For the sake of (computer) science, I can try if setting it to SLave or
CableSelect makes it work... :^D

Later on today I will compile kernel 2.6.25 myself and see if the
problem persists even with the latest IDE driver.

[Bug 222322] Re: IDE hard drives not visible

2008-04-29 Thread scananza
Hi Don,
If found out that I also had the longest tail of the IDE cable attached to the
CDROM and not to the MB but, unfortunately, that didn't solve the problem (I
also switched to a brand new IDE cable, just to be sure, since the old one was
pretty twisted and deformed).

My setup is quite simple: just the CDROM as primary master, there are no other
devices, the second bus is empty.
I tried to connect the CDROM both to the middle and to the end connector but no
way.
BIOS recongnize correctly the device as primary master and the kernel detects a
scsi-emulated cdrom, loads the proper devices /dev/sr0 and /dev/scd0 but NOT
the standard /dev/hda. For the rest of the operating system the cdrom simply
doesn't exist and forceing apps to use /dev/sr0 just hangs them.

This bug is really annoying, if it's kernel-related stuff, I hope a new
patched kernel will be added to repositories as soon as possible.

convert rpm's with alien and then use them to replace ubuntu libmyodbc package.
I hope this will be fixed asap because it cut out all those office environments
(like mine) that rely on OOo and mysql.

[Bug 222322] Re: IDE hard drives not visible

2008-04-27 Thread scananza
I think I have the same problem as you guys, after gutsy-hardy upgrade
I lost my cdrom drive which used to be addressed as /dev/hda (my HD is
serial ata and so not connected to the standard IDE bus). I only have a
/dev/sr0 and /dev/scd0 entries which relate to scsi emulation stuff, I
think. The cdrom is in fact undetected by all the ubuntu high-level
subsystem (gnome, and stuff). I tried to do a fresh install and the
installer stops telling me it's unable to mount the cdrom drive.

I think a patch to the kernel to fix this is quite urgent because it
makes many systems almost unusable.

[Bug 211693] Re: nautilus cannot eject ipod while eject(1) does

2008-04-21 Thread scananza
Just upgraded to the fix-release, rebooted but the problem persists:
gnome-mount -e /dev/sdc or gnome-mount -e /dev/sdc1 (IPOD is third
drive) simply do nothing, while eject doesn't work anymore:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ eject -v /dev/sdc1
eject: device name is `/dev/sdc1'
eject: expanded name is `/dev/sdc1'
eject: `/dev/sdc1' is mounted at `/media/IPOD'
eject: unmounting device `/dev/sdc1' from `/media/IPOD'
eject: `/dev/sdc1' is a multipartition device
eject: unable to open `/dev/sdc1'

as you can read, the drive is unmounted but the eject fails.

Trying to eject from nautilus gives me the usual unable to eject error
message too.

[Bug 211693] Re: nautilus cannot eject ipod while eject(1) does

2008-04-16 Thread scananza
For now, I umount (not eject the device) and then unplug the ipod, I
guess this shouldn't corrupt anything (maybe I'm wrong?) and then the
ipod ejects by itself. This bug should definitely be worked out for
better usage of the gui, though.

[Bug 211693] [NEW] nautilus cannot eject ipod while eject(1) does

2008-04-04 Thread scananza
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I'm using the very last beta release of Hardy (updated April 3, 2008).

When I plug in my IPOD classic, an icon correctly pops up in nautilus
resources and device is mounted.

If I try to eject the device from nautilus or other apps like gtkpod it
fails with a subtle Unable to eject. error message.

If I use $ eject /dev/sda1 from the command line, it works correctly.

Mount/Umount from nautilus works as expected.

[Bug 19423] Re: error message when I umount my Ipod on Nautilus

2008-04-03 Thread scananza
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 11517 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/11517

I'm experiencing this annoying bug too. The error message I got is a
more cryptic Unable to eject. from Nautilus, but when I eject it from
the command line it works like a charm.

I'm using the last Hardy beta (update of just a couple of minutes before
this post).

[Bug 152937] bounding box not working (option -B)

2007-10-15 Thread scananza
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ps2eps

After upgrading from feisty to gutsy (ps2eps 1.58 - 1.64) the program
doesn't manage bounding boxes correctly anymore; with 1.58, ps2eps -B
sample.ps used to crop the .ps exactly at the image boundaries, with
1.64 the resulting .eps cuts the image, messing up the correct
boundaries. Downgrading to 1.58 fixes the problem, so it is hopefully a
ps2eps problem only.

[Bug 24430] Re: connect to server feature don't manage NFS shares

2007-02-12 Thread scananza
I have the same problem and, for what I've found out, it is related to NFS
protocol not being supported by current version of gnomevfs2.
I read somewhere that NFS got dropped switching from gnomevfs to gnomevfs2 and
that support is now available only through a patch. I think ubuntu package
lacks that patch.
This is really annoying since it forces user to browse NFS shares in nautilus
via fstab and you have to change it by hand if you connect your laptop to
different LANs.
I think NFS support should be enable back again in feisty in order to surf Unix
networks in nautilus like we can actually surf SMB shares at the time.
