Same here, sound broke today when I upgraded to 2.6.24-12. Please fix
this bug!

[Bug 55045] Re: local DAAP shares not listed

2007-11-21 Thread scarolan
This is really frustrating. I set up SSH port forwarding so I could
access my home mt-daap server from work. Rhythmbox is seriously
defective if it can't pick up a local share and play music from it.
Please fix this bug as soon as you are able. Why was this developed
this way? Guess I'll try Amarok or other music players to see if I can
get at the share.

[Bug 27014] Re: evolution bug, Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync

2007-10-19 Thread scarolan
Andrey, you might as well give it up. This bug is nearly two years old.
Evolution is a steaming pile of crap that is trying to emulate / copy an
even bigger steaming pile of crap, namely MS LookOut! Like many of us,
you're probably stuck having to connect to an Exchange server to read
your company email, so I'd suggest abandoning Evolution altogether and
using Windows XP + Outlook inside of a VMWare machine.

This bug is nearly two years old - I wouldn't hold my breath on a fix
coming anytime soon.

Re: [Bug 27014] Re: evolution bug, Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync

2007-06-23 Thread scarolan
Thanks, Jamie, but I've stopped using Evolution for the time being. I will
keep your note for future reference.

The attached script provides a convenient way to clean out summary files
after this bug hits. It has proven quite useful (before implementing
the above patch), and is very non-tech user-friendly.

Here is the order of operations:
 1. asks the user to close evolution
 2. forces evolution to close
 3. sets evolution to be in offline mode via gconftool-2
 4. removes the summary files in $HOME/.evolution/mail/local and below
 5. tells user how to start evolution again

I developed it so that non-technical users could have a way to navigate
through this bug, and it has proven very handy.

[Bug 73415] Re: Sound only mono until mute/unmute master volume

2007-06-16 Thread scarolan
Correct. Sound only comes from the right speaker after booting up. It
doesn't come from both speakers until I mute and unmute the sound.

[Bug 27014] Re: evolution bug, Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync

2007-05-25 Thread scarolan
This really is a deal-breaker. I can't have my mail client locking up
like this several times a day. Given the age of the bug I'm surprised
no one has been able to fix it. Can you just borrow some working code
from the Mozilla Thunderbird team? (I kid, I kid . . . )

I'm running Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 on an IBM Thinkpad T41:

1. Download mail into local mbox spool, /var/spool/mail/username
2. Attempt to open mail with Evolution
3. Get several duplicate messages and error box
4. Restart evolution and cross fingers hoping it will resolve itself
5. Lather, rinse, repeat

If someone can tell me what error/debug/log files you need to
troubleshoot I will be happy to post them for you.

2007-05-25 Thread scarolan
For others experiencing the same bug, I found that opening the mail
spool with mutt seems to clean up whatever problems were introduced by
Evolution. After opening and closing with mutt, I am again able to read
my messages in Evolution.

[Bug 76238] Re: Slow boot, stalls on Starting Basic Networking

2006-12-18 Thread scarolan
An upstart bug indeed!

If this bug is caused by the computer looking for a network connection
at boot, is there a way to turn this off? I never establish a
connection until AFTER I'm logged in, via Gnome Network Manager / wifi.
I don't want my laptop trying to get online until I'm already logged in.

[Bug 76238] Updated /var/log/boot

2006-12-18 Thread scarolan
Ok, so I installed sasl2-bin and still am experiencing a delay of 60

[Bug 76238] Problem solved - sendmail-bin was the culprit

2006-12-18 Thread scarolan
Ok, so I dug a little deeper and found that there are two packages for
sendmail, sendmail and sendmail-bin. I didn't realize that sendmail-bin
was installed. After uninstalling it the boot proceeds as normal. Just
curious though, why are there two packages?

[Bug 76238] Slow boot, stalls on Starting Basic Networking

2006-12-17 Thread scarolan
Public bug reported:

I turned off the 'quiet' parameter in /boot/grub/menu.lst to try narrow
down the problem. The boot messages just fly by until it reaches
Starting Basic Networking where it stalls for over a minute. This did
not happen on Dapper, it only started popping up after I upgraded to
Edgy. If you need extra logfile output, etc. let me know.

[Bug 73415] Sound only mono until mute/unmute master volume

2006-11-26 Thread scarolan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: volumecontrol.app

Hardware: Acer 3102WLMi laptop
OS: Ubuntu Edgy with latest updates as of 11/26/2006

When I boot the laptop up, the logon sounds only come from the right
speaker. After logging in, only the right speaker produces any sound.
If I open the Volume Control application, mute the master volume, and
unmute it then both speakers work.

Please let me know if there are any log files or anything that you need
to troubleshoot this further.
