[Bug 1880415] Re: Upgraded from 18.04 to 20.04, mariadb-server installer broken

2020-05-25 Thread Scott Porter
Hi Faustin,

Thanks for the response but the problem is that mysql and mariadb will
not install correctly after upgrading the OS from 18.04 to 20.04. This
seems to be an issue with dpkg leaving some old libraries and files
hanging around on the file system that cause conflicts when it attempts
to install either of these. I have tried manually removing all files
related to the databases, but the install still fails in either case. I
also found that the php-mysql package will not install due to it not
being able to resolve dependencies. So the problem may be related to
other old packages that are dependencies of mysql (or mariadb?)

I'm sure this is an edge case as most people probably just reinstall the
OS from a downloaded image (which is what I usually do, I just tried the
upgrade this time to see how it went!) but there is definitely a problem
during the upgrade. I have found numerous other unsolved instances of
this, on this bug tracker, so no need to duplicate those any further I
guess!

[Bug 1873931] Re: package mysql-server-8.0 8.0.19-0ubuntu5 failed to install/upgrade: installed mysql-server-8.0 package pre-removal script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2020-05-24 Thread Scott Porter
Same problem here. Installer tries to stop a process that doesn't exist.
Then throws an error that it cannot stop the process (because it doesn't
exist!) then fails to install correctly. So mysql server cannot be
started:
