[Bug 129783] [Gutsy] Knetworkmanager fails to join wireless network

2007-08-01 Thread sk0rp10
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: knetworkmanager

[Regression from Feisty Fawn ]
[Reproducibility: Always]
[Wireless adapter: Intel Pro Wireless IPW3945]

Knetworkmanager does not start in the system tray at startup, even if
its process is running. Killing it and reloading will end in a Kwallet
opening hang-up (it hangs on opening Kwallet, as it says in the tray
icon context menu).

The only way to make it work is reloading X , but even then it fails to
join the wireless network at first time, asking for key even if it has
it stored in kwallet. Clicking cancel on the key dialog and requesting
again the connection finally works.

[Bug 127660] Re: NetworkManager and iwp3945 Driver WPA/Hidden Network

2007-07-24 Thread sk0rp10
I can confirm this bug, but this is not related to a hidden network.
Instead, while the ipw3945 is performing the auth handshake to install a WPA
connection,
Knetworkmanagers times out the connection, wrongly thinking it has failed the
authentication, and
requesting a new authentication key.

If u say Cancel to the new key request and then reconnect you'll see the green
led of ipw3945 has just becomed stable green , which means
connected, and knetworkmanager will suddenly start the dhcp procedure because
it founds the wireless link has already been established.

I think this could be easly fixed just setting a longer timeout for
ipw3945 wireless cards, which are slower in joining wpa networks, maybe
due to the fact they have a separate running daemon service which helps
the kernel module , maybe slowing down the driver itself.

[Bug 109103] Re: cpad is not detected as synaptics - does not work on kernel 2.6.20

2007-04-28 Thread sk0rp10
This bug is due to the fact that cpad source searches for linux/config.h
which is no longer supported by kernel = 2.6.19

The cpad-kernel source should be patched to reflect this change

[Bug 109103] Re: cpad is not detected as synaptics - does not work on kernel 2.6.20

2007-04-28 Thread sk0rp10
I have modified cpad.c source code to meet 2.6.20 changes, all old code is
commented.
The module now compiles but it segfaults on insertion, I think it occours in
the device driver probe stage.

If the maintainer wants to cooperate with me we could fix this sooner.

[Bug 109103] cpad is not detected as synaptics - does not work on kernel 2.6.20

2007-04-22 Thread sk0rp10
Public bug reported:

Regression:

Synaptics cpad doesn't work anymore on kernel 2.6.20-xx and the cpad kernel
source gives compilation errors (implicit declaration of functions ) if
compiled,
the reproducibility is ALWAYS on this kernel version and I think it should be
fixed soon since it makes Toshiba Laptops equipped with cpad unusable with
Feisty or Gutsy.

In the xorg.log simply a not found error is raised for the synaptics
driver, and the touchpad is unusable.

I also tried to compile and load the synaptics-usb kernel module but it
doesn't seem to do anything

Is there any way to restore an older kernel in order to boot affected machines

Where can one download , as example, 2.6.20-13 and how can one install it into

[Bug 84566] lm-sensors not working on vaio vgn fe 11s module: i2c-i801

2007-02-11 Thread sk0rp10
Public bug reported:

Here is my sensors-detect output (summary)

Now follows a summary of the probes I have just done.
Just press ENTER to continue:

Driver `eeprom' (should be inserted):
  Detects correctly:
  * Bus `SMBus I801 adapter at 18e0'
Busdriver `i2c-i801', I2C address 0x50
Chip `eeprom' (confidence: 6)
  * Bus `SMBus I801 adapter at 18e0'
Busdriver `i2c-i801', I2C address 0x52
Chip `eeprom' (confidence: 6)
  * Bus `SMBus I801 adapter at 18e0'
Busdriver `i2c-i801', I2C address 0x57
Chip `eeprom' (confidence: 6)

  EEPROMs are *NOT* sensors! They are data storage chips commonly
  found on memory modules (SPD), in monitors (EDID), or in some
  laptops, for example.

I will now generate the commands needed to load the required modules.
Just press ENTER to continue:

To make the sensors modules behave correctly, add these lines to
/etc/modules:

#cut here
# I2C adapter drivers
i2c-i801
# Chip drivers
eeprom
#cut here

but when I use the sensors command I get:

No sensors found!
Make sure you loaded all the kernel drivers you need.

[Bug 83734] dpkg -L gives wrong files list

2007-02-07 Thread sk0rp10
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dpkg

Distribution : Feisty
Reproducibility : Always

The command dpkg -L should list all files installed by a certain
package, but very often it lists files which are not actually installed
.

for example: dpkg -L gcc-4.1 gives , among all other files :

/usr/lib/gcc/i486-linux-gnu/4.1.2/libgcc_s.so

which is not installed with that package.

To check this I have wrote a simple script, which shows packages with
missing files and put their names in a file called missing

here's the script :

#!/bin/sh

for PName in $(dpkg -l | awk /^ii/'{print $2}'); do

for FName in $(dpkg -L $PName); do
if [ ! -e $FName ]; then
 echo missing $FName!!!

[Bug 83456] wpa psk key not updated in kwallet after changing it

[Bug 77557] Re: knetworkmanager fails to find network devices

2007-01-20 Thread sk0rp10
After some investigations I found that any program which alters the
/etc/network/interfaces file deleting the auto command from a wireless
interface messes up knetworkmanager. To workaround the problem just put
back the auto command before the wireless interface name.

Example:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

wifi0
iface wifi0 inet dhcp

Change it in

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

auto wifi0

[Bug 77557] Re: knetworkmanager fails to find network devices

2007-01-20 Thread sk0rp10
I am running Feisty development branch, updated with latest packages. I
just changed the wireless interface configuration from knetworkconf and
found that the line auto wifi0 was missing.

Morever I found that on Feisty knetworkconf autodetects the system as
Slackware 9.1 , and if I force version popup by altering knetworkconfrc
as this:

[General]
askAgainPlatform=true
detectedPlatform=Ubuntu_7.04

I can then select Feisty as platform, but then no network interfaces are
found, so I think there should be some mess in knetworkconf which thinks
that feisty is slackware 9.1 and does wrong configurations

[Bug 77557] Re: knetworkmanager fails to find network devices

2007-01-20 Thread sk0rp10
Correction :

setting up this as knetworkrc makes interface detection work ok:

[General]
askAgainPlatform=false
detectedPlatform=ubuntu-7.04

and changing settings does not alter anymore the /etc/network/interfaces file

I am doing some more tests however

[Bug 78181] Re: intermittent WPA connection

2007-01-08 Thread sk0rp10
I found the problem : Knetwork managers stores in Kwallet the WPA
password with the character : at the beginning and at the end of the
Key .

If u remove the s in Kwallet all works well.

I think that patching this bug won't be so difficult... :-)
