[Bug 515678] Re: [needs-packaging] sun-java6 for lucid

Umm if this does get packaged again, why not rename it to oracle-
java6-*.

Personally I like openjdk, though ;)

[Bug 542721] Re: ath9k ubuntu 10.04 lucid system freeze at high bandwidth usage

2010-03-30 Thread sklp
I've also been experiencing full system freezes since I upgraded my

way to try compat-wireless without doing a "raw tarball" install? Would
like to try it if there was like a deb or something

[Bug 503375] [NEW] Middle button emulation auto-disabled too late

2010-01-05 Thread sklp
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev

X (I believe it's actually the evdev input driver) waits until the first
detected non-emulated middle-click until it disables the middle-button
emulation.
It seems to me that with the new shiny X input stuff, it really ought to
disable the emulation for specific devices as soon as they are plugged in and
not wait until the first click with a real middle-button.

2009-06-22 Thread sklp
I got tired of this problem so I tried to fix it myself. I've attached a
patch to firefox 3.5-rc2 to this post. It seems to work for me, but it
should be good with some testing before it possibly becomes included. If
I have time I might try to fix some other apps...

[Bug 270617] Re: Display corruption after short period

2009-02-15 Thread sklp
I have used 180.xx on Hardy 64 bit without issues for a while... I recently
upgraded to jaunty though, and it's been fine for a couple of days but now i
got the bug.
However, i was able to get rid of it by doing some vt switching back and forth
:)

[Bug 270617] Re: Display corruption after short period

2009-01-13 Thread sklp
Yes I have the bug in intrepid with every driver version I've tried so
far. However, I also discovered the bug once in hardy with the latest
driver from repositories. But haven't seen it yet after a long time of
testing (using 180.11 beta on hardy 64-bit). So I'm not switching driver
and/or ubuntu version anytime soon. Maybe when jaunty is released I'll
try that.

[Bug 270617] Re: Display corruption after short period

2008-12-27 Thread sklp
In my last post i described getting the bug in hardy. That occured with the
latest stable driver (from hardy repos).
I've since then installed the beta driver(180.11) in hardy, and It's been
stable for many days. I can't be certain it's 100% stable, but it certainly
seems so at the moment.
However, it may not be stable in intrepid or jaunty (you seem to have problems
with 180.11 and intrepid), but I'll probably try jaunty in a while, as intrepid
seems to be unstable with every driver version I've tried so far.

2008-12-04 Thread sklp
I used hardy for a while, without any problems. However, today I got the
exact same problem I got in intrepid(looks kinda lika the image above).
So the problem apparently exists in hardy as well, but it just seemed to
take longer for the problem to appear (for me, but it might just be
random). Guess I'll have to use Windows for a while on this machine,
sadly.

[Bug 270617] Re: Display corruption after short period

2008-11-23 Thread sklp
I'm getting this on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 9400 -- GF Go 9600GS), which I
have just bought. So the only OS I've tried is Intrepid (64-bit and 32-bit),
and this issue appears for me sometimes and It's really annoying to have to
reboot. I've got the bug with all 3 nvidia options in intrepid.
Markus Golser, I don't really want to try your fix as I would like my GPU to
perform when I'm playing games etc...
I'm wondering if this issue does not appear at all in hardy, and I'm willing to
downgrade for a while if it's stable. Also I'm interested if there's any tricks
you want to share.
phenest, in the the 109643 bug you mention that it gets fixed by tuning the cpu
powersave to "performance", is this actually/still the case? I may want to try
that although it seems lame to have a laptop without speedstep capability :/
Downgrading to hardy may be the best option...

[Bug 182731] Re: Provide a lib32asound2-plugins package

2008-11-20 Thread sklp
Hi. So this bug is supposedly fixed in jaunty. Great news. It's a pretty
useful feature to be able to get sound from a 32 bit application running
on a 64 bit system, so I'm thinking it would also be good with some kind
of backport for intrepid and hardy, or at least for intrepid.

[Bug 182731] Re: Provide a lib32asound2-plugins package

2008-09-07 Thread sklp
This bug still hasn't been fixed in Intrepid alpha 5.
Although pulse isn't the default alsa pcm yet either (LP #198453 ), so until
that is fixed I guess this is less of an issue then it otherwise would be. But
it really should be fixed before Intrepid final, since it's a major regression
compared to gutsy...

[Bug 198453] Re: Default ALSA device must use PulseAudio, otherwise ALSA applications may fail

2008-08-29 Thread sklp
Well, I think it's *VERY* odd that this bug made it into Hardy(an LTS
release)...

The steps I usually make to fix (on my hardy installs) is just:
* install libasound2-plugins
* set pulse to default alsa device
* install flash player 10(which works with pulse)
* if some apps refuses to work, make some form of workaround for them:
only problem i've had is really wine, but havent tried that many programs
however, wine seems to work just fine with its OSS output plugin combined with
padsp

Although I had to move from 64bit ubuntu to 32 bit ubuntu on one of my
machines to make this work (since libasound2-plugins and padsp
apparently does not exist as lib32* versions yet), which wasnt that fun
:(

First of all what should be done in Ubuntu about this (IMO):
1. Either a) move pulse plugin from libasound2-plugins to libasound2 package
(and make sure it is in lib32asound2 as well
 b) ship libasound2-plugins by default as well as ship a new
lib32asound2-plugins
2. set pulse to default alsa device
3. An idea to make things seem like less of a hack than they are: configure
pulseaudio daemon to NEVER release the sound card. Would fix the issues with
different programs gaining exclusive access to the sound card etc (confusing
errors; it would IMO in these cases be better if the sound of that specific
program just didnt work at all. The user would then have to use some kind of
workaround (for instance oss output+padsp ) until the program in question was
fixed ( instead of getting strange errors like other programs audio being
broken, only the broken program would get non-working audio)

also I'm hoping that if this is not fixed in time, that you (ubuntu
devs) will not hesitate to go back to dmix like in gutsy ( although I
can't really see why )

Also I don't really se why Kubuntu/Xubuntu couldn't use PulseAudio as
well. When used as default alsa output/input, it mainly improves over
dmix, by for instance allowing per-application volume control, network
transparency, etc

just my 2 cents..
