Re: [Bug 183428] Re: Boot fails with 2.6.24-4 with initramfs error on 6.06, 7.04.7.10
I had similiar issue with 7.10 on Apple PPC G3 platform. The source of the problem was that initramfs was missing IDE driver for my hardware. The problem only occured after install. The LiveCD had the driver. I basically followed the procedure listed at bottom of this http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=588153 from Efrain Valleshttp://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=51963 to fix the problem. It basically rebuilts the initramfs with the missing driver. I don't know the driver you need so you will probably have to perform lsmod | grep ide or lsmod | grep ata from liveCD to find listed drivers. -- Boot fails with 2.6.24-4 with initramfs error on hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/183428 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 183430] firefox freezing after latest hardy updates
Public bug reported: Firefox 2.0.11 under 64bit Hardy alpha 1 was working fine. After updates of something in the past 3-4 days, it now freezes for a few seconds for all sites (or just about every site). Firefox is basically unusable in current form. It was fine at initial alpha 2 updates. Now every time a second tab is opened, the whole browser freezes. The freezing is not permanent. I just need to wait 3-5 seconds for response. CPU activity is low during the freeze state. I Installed epiphany for test and it seems fine. I should of received codec warning that totem does not support realAudio and to install Realplayer 10. [Bug 108791] realplayer10 install does not automatically setup Firefox .ram handling
Public bug reported: Feisty 7.04 x86 32bit Trying to listen to this RealAudio stream http://cbc.ca/asithappens/media/dailyshow/2007-04-19-aih1.ram Helixplayer totally useless since it does not support this format. Had no choice but to install RealPlayer 10.0.8.805 from commercial applications. While it installs, it does not configure itself to automatically handle this stream. I had to manually select realplayer from /usr/bin and make it default application. Solution is not acceptable to newbie since he/she would have no idea what real player binary is called or where it is located.Totem codec handling improvements work great for Microsoft and Apple formats but does not support platform neutral vendor Real? Ubuntu needs to better support vendors who are Linux friendly. Real is sole or secondary format for many National public broadcast news sites like CBC Canada, BBC UK, ABC Australia's (http://www.cbc.ca/radioshows/, http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/ http://www.abc.net.au/rn/encounter/default.htm). If WMA and MOV formats are relatively painless on 7.04, the Real formats should be also. I realize that Real is special case since WMA and MOV support are handled within Totem. BTW, installing Realplayer under WinXP for this same file was painless since it automatically updated Firefox to support it within the external Realplayer application. This bug should be forwarded to Real since they are responsible for application installation issues? If yes, inform them they are pushing Ubuntu users to select Windows Media player over Real Player since Ubuntu automatically makes Windows Media Format the better supported format I did notice that Real .rpm streams seem to work fine with Firefox. ** Affects: realplayer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- realplayer10 install does not automatically setup Firefox .ram handling https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108791 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 97682] Re: bcm43xx firmware not available - bcm 4318 wireless card not working
I take it back. Not sure how or why but under 7.04 with 2.6.20-14, I was able to get it working with BCM4306. As I always try the newbie method (pure GUI), I was only able to get it working by using the Gnome Network Applet Control (left click on applet in Gnome panel). I then selected connect to other wireless network. I then type essid and specified no wireless security. It then connected and worked fine. Going back to Gnome Network Setttings (system - administation), I could then select roaming mode and that worked now too. It seems the trick was adjusting some setting in the Applet first. I tried duplicating this problem and can not. If I knew what settings files were updated, I would reset them and try this again. Dumb question : Why does Network Settings - wireless device - properties not have Security None like edgy. It only has WEP ASCII and WEP HEX. This should not be rejected since this is real problem. I am using BCM4306 under 6.10 with firmware method and it works. I download the firmware package from http://ubuntu.cafuego.net/pool/edgy- cafuego/bcm43xx/bcm43xx-firmware_1.3-1ubuntu2_all.deb. This method is not the most stable but I am trying to avoid ndiswrapper solution. This firmware package does not work under feisty. Under 7.04 2.6.20-13, I tried the Ubuntu repos and got nowhere. I first install bcm43xx-fwcutter (from feisty repo) and then it prompted for firmware (which I installed). I got nothing from network-manager with this solution and it does not even show anything from dmesg.
