[Bug 1865379] Re: Raspberry Pi 4 fails to wake at login prompt

2020-03-31 Thread spike speigel
Hello, I have not forgotten about this.

1.) Does not exist.
2.) I've already reported.

I will have to apply the patch outlined in 3.) and cause the crash
again. However, this system uses an SD card, and the first system had a
corrupted boot partition after crashing a series of times. This crash
might prevent me from collecting the data the crash creates.

I will give it a shot.

Also wanted to note that when I ran apport-collect 1865379 this time
that it noted package xorg-server not found. I don't know if that is
relevant, or perhaps that makes sense??

[Bug 1865379] Re: Raspberry Pi 4 fails to wake at login prompt

2020-03-24 Thread spike speigel
apport information

** Tags added: reproducible ubuntu

** Description changed:

Raspberry Pi 4 running Ubuntu server 20.04 Focal (and perhaps 19.10
Eoan) fails to wake from sleep when no user is logged in and the screen
is sitting at the gdm login prompt.

This has happened on two different systems. One system uses the
official RPi 7 inch touchscreen via (LCD DSI Display Connector). The
other system has a 10 inch non-touchscreen from SunFounder via (Micro
  HDMI).

Nothing wakes the Pi: Keyboard, mouse, or touchscreen.

After a user logs in and the screen locks on sleep the system wakes just
  fine with a lock screen.

This morning that system has stopped booting. I am not sure why. I can
try and pull the SD card out and get the ID for the error report. If
not, then I will need to pull all this information again from the second
system that is displaying the same behavior.

[Bug 1860245] Re: User cannot always scroll to the bottom of the software updater window, last update package(s) inaccessible

2020-01-18 Thread spike speigel
** Description changed:

The user cannot always scroll to the bottom of the software updater
window. The scroll bar stops before actually reaching the bottom, and
prevents the last listed package or group of packages from being viewed.
This seems to happen only sometimes. Not exactly sure what caused the
scroll bar hangup one moment and then it functioning fine the next.

Attaching screenshots of the scroll bar working and stuck (movable, but
not able to reach the bottom.)
+
+ In the initial screenshot the Ubuntu Base package group can be seen
+ partially obscured at the bottom of the list, and the scroll bar is
+ nearly there, but will not move any further to the bottom of the pane.
+ There is also a horizontal scroll bar for some unknown reason, and may
+ be causing the issue.
+
+ In the two subsequent screenshots moments later the Ubuntu Base package
+ group is visible and accessible. The horizontal scroll bar is now gone,
+ and may have disappeared while expanding/contracting some package
+ groups.

[Bug 1858250] Re: Changing screen resolution changed my audio sink from headphones to the speakers in my monitor

2020-01-04 Thread spike speigel
** Description changed:

I changed my screen resolution from 2560x1440 to 1024x768 to test an
application, and my audio sink was switched from headphone output to the
speakers in my monitor for all applications playing sound.

I can repeatedly cause the resolution down-scaling to change my audio
- sink. This does not appear to be happening when I up-scale my
- resolution.
+ sink from "Built-in Audio Analog Stereo" to "GP104 High Definition Audio
+ Controller Digital Stereo (HDMI 2)". As the sound can be carried through
+ HDMI, maybe something with the resolution change is causing the
+ device/sink to be re-detected and my system defaults to it. This does
+ not appear to be happening when I up-scale my resolution e.g. going from
+ 1024x768 to 2560x1440.

[Bug 1858250] Re: Changing screen resolution changed my audio sink from headphones to the speakers in my monitor

2020-01-03 Thread spike speigel
** Description changed:

I changed my screen resolution from 2560x1440 to 1024x768 to test an
application, and my audio sink was switched from headphone output to the
speakers in my monitor for all applications playing sound.

I can repeatedly cause the resolution down-scaling to change my audio
sink. This does not appear to be happening when I up-scale my
  resolution.

[Bug 1334218] Re: guvcview icon does not change with theme

2019-12-03 Thread spike speigel
I don't believe this to be a valid issue, rather a preference. Checking
the desktop entry spec it states that if an absolute path is used, then
that file will be used. The example further below does show a shortened
icon value, but this description indicates an absolute path is a valid
option:

https://specifications.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/desktop-entry-
spec-latest.html#recognized-keys

Key: Icon
Description: Icon to display in file manager, menus, etc. If the name is an
absolute path, the given file will be used. If the name is not an absolute
path, the algorithm described in the Icon Theme Specification will be used to
locate the icon.

Not sure. Maybe it is related somehow? If you explicitly set the cursor
size does that temporarily resolve the issue for you?

In my instance it does not change size when clicking. It remains large
except it will change sizes mousing over certain applications.

[Bug 1845828] Re: Timeout error while renaming a file

2019-09-29 Thread spike speigel
** Description changed:

If a user starts renaming a file (via F2 for instance) they will see the
file rename dialog as they should. If the user takes roughly more than
30 seconds to decide on a file name, then they are greeted with an error
dialog box that complains a timeout has been reached.

"The requested operation could not be completed"
  "Timeout was reached"
+
+ The error is reproducible every time.
+ The error is reproducible through reboots.
+ The error occurs 25 secs after the "Rename" dialog is opened (timed using
stopwatch multiple times).
+ The files being tested with are on the desktop located on local storage.
+ File type and initial naming complexity do not seem to matter.

I don't know if the type of local storage could affect thunar, but
here's the drive info if it helps any:

Samsung SSD 970 EVO

Hi Chris,

Yes, this is with local files. I encountered it while trying to rename
screenshots I'd taken moments earlier. The images were sitting on my
desktop.

If a user starts renaming a file (via F2 for instance) they will see the

30 seconds to decide on a file name, then they are greeted with an error

[Bug 1843080] [NEW] Clicking "Install Now" does nothing in software updater

2019-09-06 Thread spike speigel
Public bug reported:

Upgraded from 19.04 Disco to 19.10 Eoan "Alpha" last month. Updates
have been working smoothly until recent.

Now when the software updater prompts to install updates, and I click
the "Install Now" button, nothing happens. The button goes grayed out
for a second, then returns to the clickable state. The software updater
window remains the same, and no updates are installed.

Updates can be performed via apt in terminal.

[Bug 1760068] Re: Wrong resolution at unlock screen

2019-04-14 Thread spike speigel
With Xubuntu 19.04 Disco Dingo and the 418.56 nvidia drivers it appears
now my system has:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/nvidia-418/xorg

So added the below options to /etc/X11/xorg.conf fixes the issue:

Section "Files"
ModulePath "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/nvidia-418/xorg"
ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
EndSection

I'm not sure why the file/folder structure differed with Xubuntu 18.10
and 415.xx nvidia drivers.

[Bug 1770948] Re: Mouse cursor size is large and inconsistent on 4K displays in XFCE

2019-03-17 Thread spike speigel
I recently performed a clean install of Xubuntu 18.10, and I'm
experiencing this more recently. Also, it appears I'm already using
lightdm-gtk-greeter and do not have unity-greeter installed.

I'm glad you identified the issue you have with unity-greeter. I think
there might be multiple issues with multiple greeters here.

I tried checking to see what was in my lightdm.conf to find it does not
exist with the default install on my system.

$ less /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf: No such file or directory

What I do have:

$ ls -al /etc/lightdm/
total 28

[Bug 1760068] Re: Wrong resolution at unlock screen

2019-03-03 Thread spike speigel
In my instance (Xubuntu 18.10 with nvidia 415 from the graphics drivers
PPA) I was able to fix the lock screen resolution by using the
following:

Section "Files"
ModulePath "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xorg"
ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
EndSection

My system has /usr/lib/nvidia, but no xorg directory located there.
Likewise, no nvidia/xorg directory path under /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu.
There was only xorg as listed above with my corresponding nvidia
modules.

This workaround does not fix the TTY screen resolution or the Xubuntu
boot/loading spash.

[Bug 1799838] Re: Pulse Audio Volume Control defaults to wrong hardware profile and will not save under configuration section after upgrading to Ubuntu 18.10

2018-10-27 Thread spike speigel
I believe it is a combination of two separate bugs.

1.) Headphones/line-out jack detection broken:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pavucontrol/issues/43

As mentioned above, my Built-in-Audio profile is listed as "Analog
Stereo Duplex (unplugged)" when it is actually plugged in.

2.) Unplugging headphones changes Built in Audio profile from analog to digital
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/issues/390

And it keeps defaulting to "Digital Stereo IEC958 Output" on each
reboot, because the Analog Stereo Duplex jack detection is broken.

[Bug 1799838] [NEW] Pulse Audio Volume Control defaults to wrong hardware profile and will not save under configuration section after upgrading to Ubuntu 18.10

2018-10-24 Thread spike speigel
Public bug reported:

Pulse Audio Volume Control defaults to the wrong hardware profile and
will not save the selected hardware profile under the configuration
section after upgrading from Ubuntu 18.04 to 18.10.

I have HDMI out from my GPU to my desktop monitor "GP104 High Definition
Audio Controller" and "Built-in Audio" from my on-board audio.

I typically wish to use my built-in audio which should send output to my
headphones. The problem is that on the Configuration page the "Built-in
Audio" option always defaults to "Digital Stereo IEC958 Output" when I
need it to use "Analog Stereo Duplex (unplugged)".

Note: It is not actually unplugged.

I can select the analog stereo profile, but it will not save
permanently. Every time I reboot may machine it resets to "Digital
Stereo IEC958 Output".

Note: I've also tried to use the "Set as fallback" button without
success. This did not happen with 18.04.

[Bug 1799323] [NEW] gksu dependency not met for gisomount

2018-10-22 Thread spike speigel
Public bug reported:

The program gisomount requires the gksu package which was apparently
dropped as of 18.04.

I ran into an issue with 18.10 where I installed gisomount, but it fails
to start due to the lack of gksu package present. The default
application launch command is, "gksudo gisomount". The package
dependencies need to be fixed and the package installation should be
modified to use some other means instead of relying on a dropped package
dependency that is unmet.

Modifying the launch command to "gisomount admin://" will not work.
There was an error message stating I require root to run gisomount.

Modifying the launch command to "pkexec gisomount" will not work
effectively. It worked once after 5 or 6 crashes.

The only reliable way to start gisomount is to use "sudo gisomount" from
a terminal.

[Bug 1770948] Re: Mouse cursor size is large and inconsistent on 4K displays in XFCE

2018-08-16 Thread spike speigel
@lastonestanding Thank you, glad to see I am not the only one and Ubuntu

I found this older post from someone who was using Xubuntu 14.04 a few

I'd also like to mention that my system was a clean 18.04 install.
Also, would it be beneficial if I added my system info somehow? If so,
is there a way to add the same type of info Doug added without
generating a whole new bug report with say "ubuntu-bug linux"??

[Bug 1770948] [NEW] Mouse cursor size is large and inconsistent on 4K displays in XFCE

2018-05-13 Thread spike speigel
Public bug reported:

I just installed a fresh copy of Xubuntu 18.04 on a new system with a 4k
screen, and I am having the same issue.

When I boot and login the mouse is huge when on the desktop, but changes sizes
when hovering over certain applications. As was reported upstream, if I change
the cursor size setting or simply change the cursor theme from "Default" to
"DMZ (Black)" and then back to "Default", the problem disappears.
The size is normal and constant no matter what application I hover over.

I found this older post from someone who was using Xubuntu 14.04 a few
years ago, and I believe it to be the same bug. The images and behavior
accurately describe what we are seeing in 18.04.

https://superuser.com/questions/768830/mouse-cursor-scaling-issues-in-
xubuntu-14-04-with-xfce-4-10

I'm also wondering if the issue is somehow related to this bug:

https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7415

In that instance I see no mention of size changes, but they similarly
have changes in the applied cursor theme based on whether the mouse is
hovering over the desktop or other applications.

2018-05-07 Thread spike speigel
And to clarify when I ran:

sudo update-initramfs -u -v -k all|grep kbl

The first round of firmware files is for 4.15.0-21-generic while the
second listing is for your patched kernel. Notice the added GuC entry.
As you can see the GuC firmware loads when running your patched kernel.

Thank you for building the test kernel :)

@mtvoid Thank you for clearing that up. I was not aware that Broxton
was Atom. For some reason I thought it was an earlier generation x64
Core architecture.

@jsalisbury I am running Bionic. I've never tested a kernel before, but
