[Bug 966228] [NEW] module mcs7830 / MOSCHIP 7830/7730 fails with = kernel 2.6.32-39

2012-03-27 Thread steve bruce
Public bug reported:

I have a usb ethernet adaptor in my NAS (there's one built in, this is a second
one) which uses a MOSCHIP 7830 chipset and the mcs7830 kernel module.
It works perfectly in 2.6.32-38 and lower, but the upgrade to -39 (or -40, I
tried that too) breaks it.

I have it configured with a static ip address and it still appears in
the output of ifconfig -a, with the ip address and there are no error
messages I can see, but it will not pass traffic.

I ran apport-cli and have attached the output, there's no desktop on it
(I run it headless) so I couldn't use apport to report the issue.

NB - these were captured using 2.6.32-38, when it was working. I lose my
internet connection when it isn't. I can run them again under -39 if it
will help.

[Bug 966228] Re: module mcs7830 / MOSCHIP 7830/7730 fails with = kernel 2.6.32-39

2012-03-27 Thread steve bruce
It seems that it does sometimes work, I just rebooted into -40 (from
-38) and it was fine, I rebooted again into -39 and it was fine. Booting
back into -40 broke it, and booting from -38 to -39 breaks it.

It seems that it must be a firmware problem, maybe it isn't resetting
cleanly during reboots - I'm only doing soft reboots because it's
physically in the attic and a pain to get to.

I'll mark this 'unconfirmed', if I can reproduce it reliably I'll open
another ticket.

[Bug 773524] Re: [Toshiba Tecra R850] SD card reader doesn't work

2011-12-02 Thread steve bruce
Still not working by default for me, Toshiba Satellite R830:

$ lspci | grep Ricoh
01:00.0 System peripheral: Ricoh Co Ltd Device e823 (rev 07)
$ uname -a
Linux Tosh 3.0.0-12-generic-pae #20-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 7 16:37:17 UTC 2011 i686
i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Fix in #13 works though.

[Bug 773524] Re: [Toshiba Tecra R850] SD card reader doesn't work

2011-12-02 Thread steve bruce
Typically, right after I posted #60 update manager popped up and offered
a new kernel:

$ uname -a
Linux Tosh 3.0.0-13-generic-pae #22-Ubuntu SMP Wed Nov 2 15:17:35 UTC 2011 i686
i686 i386 GNU/Linux

It works fine now, I presume it's the kernel and not the fix in #13
being persistent across reboots.
