[Bug 1958623] Re: encounter general protection fault while pxe booting from MaaS server
** Description changed: [Impact] grub can cause a general protection fault in EFI by freeing the wrong number of bytes for an address it allocated, causing the machine not to boot. [Test plan] - TBD + 1. Have a Dell 14G server with ubuntu OS and MAAS 2.9.2 application installed. Configure MaaS Deploy Settings to Centos7. + 2. Configure another Dell 14G SUT with PXE on boot and enlist it in MAAS. + 3. Deploy Centos7 in SUT through MaaS. + 4. Power off the system after Centos deployment. + 5. Power on the system, SUT goes to MaaS-PXE and we now should be able to boot to installed Centos-7 (Issue is RSOD here). [Where problems could occur] We could free too little or too much memory if the code is wrong? Basically all this does is change a free() call to use sizeof() instead of a hardcoded value that was used previously to allocate the buffer. Which should lead to the same result as now in the worst case. - [Original bug report] Observing RSOD when ubuntu installed server setup with MaaS application as per below procedure and pointing out different OS images from grub to deploying OS for connected server. certification- static.canonical.com/docs/MAAS_Advanced_Network_Installation_And_Configuration.pdf) Steps to reproduce the issue, 1. Have a server with ubuntu OS and MAAS 2.9.2 application installed 2. Make sure remote server is configured with PXE and enlisted into MAAS application. [In remote server enable PXE boot in the BIOD network settings and also configure uEFI boot mode and PXE boot device in BIOS settings] 4. Go to MAAS server and use curl command to check the current grub configuration for new enlisted server and make sure current grub configuration mapping to the "MAC address of NIC which is pointing to the CentOS image to deploy or to install into remote server which is enlisted into MAAS. [please refer "grub_commission" snapshot for more details] 5. After above check power on the new enlisted server and run the PXE boot via NIC port. RSOD should be able to triggered at stage of "booting under maas direction.." [please refer "RSOD_error" snapshot for mroe details] 6. In step 4, if groub config for commissioned machine is pointing to ubuntu boot kernel the RSOD wont be triggered. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1958623 Title: encounter general protection fault while pxe booting from MaaS server To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dellserver/+bug/1958623/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1961079] Re: [Ubuntu 22.04] Allow ESP installation on md-disks in subiquity
I believe the code changes has to go to these files: https://github.com/canonical/subiquity/blob/main/subiquity/common/filesystem/boot.py and https://github.com/canonical/subiquity/blob/main/subiquity/common/filesystem/actions.py Currently it allows only imsm containers and hence our md-raid 1.2 disks aren't being considered as Boot drive candidate. [Bug 1961079] Re: [Ubuntu 22.04] Allow ESP installation on md-disks in subiquity
Description of the feature request: The DellEMC PowerEdge RAID Controller(PERC) S130/S140 is RAID solution for the DellEMC PowerEdge systems configured through Chipset SATA controller. It does not use any dedicated Hardware for RAID operations. It is set up/configured by the system BIOS. Using the BIOS/UEFI Configuration utility user can configure RAID on onboard SATA/NVMe Drives and install OS and boot from it. To make use of S130/S140 solution, the user need to change the SATA mode to RAID in BIOS/UEFI Configuration. During S130/S140 configuration, the VDs (Virtual Disk) are created by system BIOS by writing metadata on the selected onboard SATA or NVMe drives. The metadata format used is MD version 1.2. The resulting VD is a Linux MDRAID VD. [Bug 1811660] Re: [SRU] Unable to modify/create-namespace over NVDIMM-N
This is a kernel issue and we have seen this with upstream kernels and verified the fixes on upstream kernels. I expect bionic kernel 4.15 and above kernels to display this defect. Although I have not tried applying only the kernel fix on bionic, the test kernel shared above shows that original defect is resolved, however another one has popped up. This indicates that a few more patches are required to get the complete namespace modification functionality working. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1811660 Title: [SRU] Unable to modify/create-namespace over NVDIMM-N To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell-poweredge/+bug/1811660/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1795453] Re: IO's are issued with incorrect Scatter Gather Buffer
@sasikumarpc - We observed this scenario where the PERC goes offline: sgl_ptr->Address = f000 sgl_ptr->Length = 1000 We do not see a roll-over here.. Kernel is indicating to read 0x1000 bytes starting from address 0xf000 i.e till 0x which very well aligns with 64 bit dma_mask being assigned by megaraid_sas driver. Looks like kernel is working as expected based on the dma_mask set by megaraid_sas driver. Once the 32bit address gets exhausted, the kernel tries to get buffer based on 64bit dma_mask top-down. We are suspecting that the PERC firmware might not be able to handle this corner case. PERC did not go offline by changing the dma_mask to 63, and these initial results looks to be supporting this stance on fw. [Bug 1778717] [NEW] Ubuntu 18.04 guest hangs during diskio stress
Public bug reported: Setup - A Dell EMC 14th Gen AMD server, with ESXi 6.7 as host and Ubuntu 18.04 (latest updates) guest. Guest has 3 data disks apart from the boot disk. All these disks are exposed through "ParaVirtual SCSI controller" from the host ESXi 6.7. Run diskio stress on all the 3 data disks for overnight. Guest goes unresponsive (even ping fails) in between. Only way to recover is to reset the guest. Logs do not indicate much on this error. Rarely we get a crash on the Guest-screen. Attaching 2 screenshots of different hits. We have tried mainline kernel v4.18-rc-2 and have hit the issue there as well.
