[Bug 982210]

2019-12-19 Thread swestlake
same thing here on Debian 10
Akregator - Version 5.9.3

I completely wiped out my Akregator settings (including
~/.cache/akregator), imported an .opml file.

I added a duplicate for one of the feeds, and the "date" showed up as
year 2106.

I looked again in the the feeds that were set and noticed a feed was a
duplicate.

I am testing the duplicate rss feed issue with this one,
http://planet.kernel.org/rss20.xml

The datestamp for the first copy of this feed is correct, but if a copy of this
feed is used, all the datestamps for the second feed become 2106 for the year.

[Bug 1768190] [NEW] prepend domain-name-servers does not parse

2018-05-01 Thread swestlake
Public bug reported:

"prepend domain-name-servers ;" in
/etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf

fails on Ubuntu from as early as artful and also tested on bionic

the result is that /etc/resolv.conf never shows "nameserver " however on other distributions this works as expected..
(other distributions use an earlier version of 4.3.1)

simply append this to the dhclient.conf file, or create a lease section
.. it always fails..

perhaps something after 4.3.1 upstream...

please take a look

thanks.

also occurs with a clean install of the UbuntuGnome iso installation
If one does apt-get install kubuntu-desktop, there is a dpkg-reconfigure for
the display manager (which shows both selections: gdm and sddm)

gdm was chosen but it doesn't disable sddm

[Bug 1448446] Re: Cannot login into Ubuntu 15.04 after upgrade

2015-05-06 Thread swestlake
It occurs with upgrades but it also occurs on new installs. appears to
be a pam setup issue as I notice there are errors with
/var/log/auth.log.

virtualbox using vivid amd64 I get the same symptom, both users (newly
created user upon install and guest account) cannot logon graphically
but the main user can login via text console.

[Bug 1260972] Re: Montreal not available in Ubiquity time zome selector

2013-12-22 Thread swestlake
affects many distro installers (i've noticed)

However in the case here Montreal is not visually selectable, but is
text-selectable via the pulldown ... but yet again choosing the text
pulldown does not activate the 'Continue' button of the installer..

https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/1262458 (video shows where in
the installer, for clarity)

It's more than one city that's problematic

The bug prevents from continuing the install

the following excerpt was relating that the previous installer editions was
working (as on Mint 15 and Mint 14 installers, but not Mint 16)

Cannot select Montreal in order to Continue installation

In more detail, I can text-select from a matching pulldown (typing Mont,
which eventually shows something like Mont-real ). ..
When the text item is selected from the pulldown, it visibly gets autocompleted
in the textbox, however the 'Continue' button is still inactive.

Also the city Montreal and some others are not selectable from
point-and-clicking on the visual map..
Other cities are selectable in Canada..(I'm guessing this may be a problem for
other places)

This wasn't occurring with the v15 or 14 installer, so something got rolled
into the latest causing it..
thanks..

(It may look a little difficult to properly select a city on the visual map,
but it's the first time this isn't working

[Bug 1162418] [NEW] -vf option question/bug?

2013-03-31 Thread swestlake
Public bug reported:

Hi,

This package/program is great.. Works great for making usb images and I know
there's null other bugs about it.. but alot of people don't know this program
is very useful..
It has a percentage indicator for making Usb Linux installers (dumping iso
images to usb devices).. and there's now an increase of Hybrid iso images
coming out.. Having desperately looking for a substitute for cat/dd I came upon
this tool.. It's actually imho something that should be getting more
attention.. This application is very stable, but I think I hit a bug, which I
think can be very helpful for resolving (despite the fact it's not widely known
about, I'm telling others about it)

perhaps it can be more of an operational question but it doesn't seem to
be because there is old circa examples from ~2005 to compare the success
of using -vf very asimilar to the command of (2) as indicated below

The command is stable, but when used in form for verifying a dumped image on
usb, is when the command fails
eg:
dcfldd if=image.iso of=[USB DEV] bs=1M (1) no problems

dcfldd if=/dev/sdz vf=image.iso (2)does not pass

0 - 0: Mismatch
Total: Mismatch

If I perform
dcfldd if=1.dd vf=2.dd
(these are two simple clone files of anything)
the command works perfectly as expected..

but I have seen online (circa ~2005, when the author of this tool was
more active) of examples using a device with an image file.. as of form
(2)..

Instead of using (2) , I'm using as a workaround to verify the checksum
of the usb device (length of the iso image)

dcfldd if=/dev/sdz of=/dev/null hashwindow=[SIZE in bytes OF ISO FILE]
bs=8M count=[calccount] hashformat=#window_start# to #window_end#: My
md5 is #hash# hash=md5 status=off

The [calccount] is an integer that was calculated as #bytes_of_iso/8M ,
and then rounded up once to the next whole number

an example output of a real command session

dcfldd if=/dev/sdi of=/dev/null hashwindow=3999268864 bs=8M count=477
hashformat=#window_start# to #window_end# bytes: My md5 is #hash# hash=md5
status=off
0 to 3999268864 bytes: My md5 is abb8f9ed08814ae1f8afccfc8d79db5d
3999268864 to 4001366016 bytes: My md5 is 4caf481e99bd7937041595c8da2840bd
Total (md5): 5c87be1c675d7960474ecf30bd366edf

(status=off was used to disable the default statusinterval message, it's
optional, and it would say if status=on
for the first line
256 blocks (2048Mb) written.0 to 3999268864 bytes: My md5 is
abb8f9ed08814ae1f8afccfc8d79db5d

which looks a bit confusing, but nothing is really written to, having
of=/dev/null
)

abb8f9ed08814ae1f8afccfc8d79db5d is the md5 checksum of the
Mageia3-beta iso-- so I know the dump was fully succesful

This tool is great.. with the increase of hybrid ISO'z I was looking for
an easy tool to use to dump iso images while showing a progress %.. This
tool also offers much more than dd, cat(such as dumping to multiple
devices, more than one of= can be used) and I will be telling other
document maintainers to consider including this tool for dumping ISO'z
..

It would be great if a command such as
dcfldd if=[USB DEVICE] vf=[image iso] would work because it's much simpler to
type.. I also tried vice-versa (vf=[image iso of=[USB DEVICE]), but to no
avail..

When the command with -vf works, the output is very simple saying
Total: Match

I know the original author is no longer around taking care of this
program.. and I believe this program isn't a very complex one, you may
also forward this to a Debian maintainer if this is the case..

Thank you for your support, would like to know what it can be that's
wrong with the vf option as it would really simplify things :)
