[Bug 2063066] [NEW] error dialogs for missing files unreasonable

2024-04-21 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

i have a large playlist

as the playlist is large, over time, the playlist as populated originally is no
longer accurately pointed to files that exist , as the playlist file structure
is re-organized
the end result is that when playing files on this playlist, audacious will
attempt to play files that aren't there and error out. This is to be expected.

here is an example from the old gtk UI

Error playing
file:///mnt/disk/audio/copyleft/perogie/jeff_cliff/pasttense/intake/1/pasttense/pasttense/1/intake/old/workingon2/disc1/elope/06-elope/audacity/Elope%20-%20Jeff%20Cliff_data/b01033.au:
No such file or directory
Error playing
file:///mnt/disk/audio/talk/copycentre/copycentre/2600/hope/fifthhope/51/1/ogg/ogg1/preserving-digital-media.mp3.ogg:
No such file or directory
Error playing
file:///mnt/disk/audio/talk/copycentre/copycentre/2600/oth/1999/3/070699.mp3:
No such file or directory
Error playing
file:///mnt/disk/audio/talk/copycentre/copycentre/2600/oth/2002/1/4/2002/052102e.mp3:
No such file or directory
Error playing
file:///mnt/disk/audio/copyleft/perogie/jeff_cliff/mandatorysuicide/intake/2/mandatorysuicide/intake/1/mandatorysuicide/intake/covers/cure-cover/source/1/cure/cure_data/b00175.au:
No such file or directory
Error playing
file:///mnt/disk/audio/copyright/fairdealing/smashingpumpkins/smashingpumpkins/ogg/sda2/disc2/track01.cdda.ogg:
No such file or directory

so far so good. The problem comes with the new Qt mode.

Same playlist. Same file structure, with some of the files missing. It
also attempts to play the file, and fails. So far so good. The problem
concerns the error message window

Whereas in Gtk Classic mode, all of the errors were grouped on one window,
which can be easily ignored, and dispatched with a single keystroke (escape)
in Qt Mode each error is its own individual window
and for some reason, it grabs the focus of the desktop environment, and
attempting to click on audacious merely brings focus to the error window (ie
you can't skip to the next song quickly with the b key until all of the open
error windows are closed).
As you can see above, there can be quite a few 'missing' files and, hence,
quite a few open error windows.

This is unreasonable - the old GtK interface did not require you to
close a dozen or whatever windows between every song if you wanted to be
able to control audacious (see attached screenshots). This might not
seem like a lot of work, but it quickly wears on you. It's a subtle
difference in behaviour, but one that makes it worth staying on Gtk
classic mode for for this user.

[Bug 2056617] [NEW] 0x0A in id3 tag results in garbled playlist

2024-03-08 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

in winamp classic interface:

what should happen: song, title, etc should be on ONE line in the
playlist. any 0A should be replaced by either nothing or a single
character. Or perhaps the line itself should be longer, and the next
track shouldn't also start on the next line.

what does happen: 0A / '\n' / new line in an id3 tag shoves data on the
next line, which looks garbled if there's another item in the playlist

for example

for id tag of gary jules - (0A)mad(0A) world

889. gary jules -
890. (garbled)
891. (garbled)

[Bug 1973067] [NEW] speed and pitch only go to 2x and are choppy at high speed

2022-05-11 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

Once you've listened at 2x speed for an extended period of time your
brain adjusts to the higher speed, and 2x starts to feel limiting.
There's a hard coded limit to the speed you can listen with the "Speed
and Pitch" plugin to 2x speed both with and without pitch disentangled
from speed.

This patch expands this limit to 4x, and adjusts the frequency window to
be a little more, allowing for a "smoother" listen at high speeds. In
addition the max/min limits are adjusted, and the limits move in smaller
degrees (so you can get just that much closer to the speed you can
psychologically handle when listening at high speed).

[Bug 1953196] Re: gnome-terminal misreads a fediverse identifier as an email

2021-12-17 Thread themusicgod1
So this patch actually *does* kind of work but only on the gnome-
terminal level (and includes some shotgun debugging). Something deeper
needs to happen in order to actually make this work - ie bringing up a
fediverse client of some kind or a web browser if that's not available.

[Bug 1953196] [NEW] gnome-terminal misreads a fediverse identifier as an email

2021-12-03 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

On the fediverse ( the free software social media network of networks -
https://jointhefedi.com/ ) the identifier format is

@username@hostname

unlike email which is

username@hostname

What happens:

if you have a fediverse user displayed in your terminal, gnome-terminal
deduces that it is an email and if you right click it, you are given the
option to 'Copy Mail Address' and 'Send Mail To' instead of just 'Copy'

What should happen:

You should, instead, be given the option to 'Copy Fedi Address' (and,
better yet, optionally 'Send DM To') instead of just 'Copy'. Possibly
including the 'Copy Mail Address', for backwards compatibility

[Bug 1933535] [NEW] metadata not always being cleared between songs in song info

2021-06-24 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

1) select a song
2) alt-i to get Song Info window (song A)
3) select another song
4) alt-i to get Song Info window for that song (song B)

sometimes one of the fields (the ones that have nothing in them in song
B, but which have something in them in song A) do not get cleared - so
it looks like, for example, song B has song A's genre, album artist or
comment.

2 example legal mp3s that do this:

* maria panzeri's hopefully (GPL licensed from aGNUla)
* 2600's Off the Wall from December 24, 2013 (free radio archive)

which has bt2.archive.org:6969/announce listed as 'working'
pretty much everything else as 'not contacted yet'

from the trackers tab:
right click - force reannounce to all trackers
doesn't appear to do anything

select some trackers that haven't been contacted...right click - force
reannounce to selected trackers...
doesn't appear to do anything

add a new tracker?
just adds it to the list, as 'not contacted yet'

this 'not contacted yet' situation seems to persist forever.

until
i use the arrows to bump the priority of one of the trackers up or down

then *all* the trackers are suddenly in 'updating' status, and after
that they work fine

so obviously there is functionality to *do* force updating of
trackers...so

what should happen:
force update to trackers should call this functionality

what does happen:
force update to trackers doesn't seem to do this, or give any feedback at all
even in the logs under 'information' level

[Bug 1882410] Re: toggling down object GInotifyFileMonitor that's already queued to toggle up ... GNOME Shell crashed with signal 5

2020-06-29 Thread themusicgod1
Now...maybe this is jumping the gun a little. But after disabling
desktop icons I just spent a bunch of time on mnemosyne (which was
triggering this)...and it didn't trigger. Maybe I lucked out and just
didn't trigger it...but it's awfully suspicious that it didn't trigger.

2020-06-24 Thread themusicgod1
actually that little error window has a bunch of data in it
stack seems to be
() at /usr/lib/libgjs.so.0
() at /usr/lib/libgjs.so.0
() at /usr/lib/libgjs.so.0

i'm going to try installing the symbols for that and reproduce again

alas there are 2 files in /var/crash neither of them line up with when
the crash happened

nothing in https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID since 2017

I've made the change to /etc/apport/crashdb.conf (that was the
workaround right?)

we'll see when it happens again after I reboot next

also...it doesn't come back when a number is pushed.

i can kind of see having to make the window very big to get the tags in
there but the window should resize back to a normal size afterwards if
it has to be that big.

[Bug 1876431] [NEW] windows invisible when there should have been a lock screen

2020-05-02 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

Shortly after upgrading to focal (a few days) I left my computer alone
and went and away for a good long while, long enough for the screen to
lock

Came back and
1) the screen was not locked,
2) the dock at the right hand side was still available and i could manipulate
it (ie click on the applications that were running, see the screenshots of them
when i mouse'd over them)
2) no windows could be seen.

I managed to for example click on the running bitcoin icon in the top right
hand corner, those were clickable too, but nothing did seemed to get the
windows back.
Alt-tab...
alt-crl up...
super-tab...
nothing i could think of

Wound up exiting out to terminal (ctrl-alt-f3, logging in) killing
gnome-shell and they all came back shortly there after.

[Bug 1875906] [NEW] all messages to all contacts fail

2020-04-29 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

jami:
  Installed: 20190215.1.f152c98~ds1-1build2
  Candidate: 20190215.1.f152c98~ds1-1build2
  Version table:

500 http://mirrors.layeronline.com/ubuntu focal/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

For all contacts, for all messages that I type to them I the message
turns red, with a red X beside it as well as an option to 'Retry' or
'Delete'. Attempting to retry times out after awhile and the message
turns back to red.

This has been the case since install a day or two ago.

[Bug 1875276] [NEW] needs way of renaming contacts

2020-04-26 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

1) person 1 creates jami account, sends identifier to person 2
2) person 2 creates jami account, sends request
3) person 1 accepts request
person 2 hasn't set up their account yet so their account name is a ginormous
string of hexidecimal

okay that's fine if you only have 1 friend.
but if you have 150+ contacts...and none of them rename themselves...you are
going to have a HARD time keeping track of who is who
And generally...it is useful to be able to rename contacts. ICE for example is
a standard 'in case of emergency' number to call. Not having this feature is
kind of a usability problem.

Looks like it needs a runtime dependency on python3-gtts - installed
python3-gtts and mnemosyne started no problem.
