[Bug 561370] Re: gnome-terminal transparency no longer works reliably (usually opaque, but sometimes shows transparency)

2019-07-24 Thread vak
still present in:

Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
gnome-terminal/bionic-updates,now 3.28.2-1ubuntu1~18.04.1 amd64

it looks like gnome-terminal isn't sure whether or not to be semi-
transparent when the window is not in front and is overlapped by a
foreground window.

So, I see 3 states when the terminal window is not in focus and
partially overlapped by a foreground window:

1) Sometimes it is semi-transparent (like it is expected when a window
is overlapped by a foreground window)

2) sometimes it is not transparent, albeit it is not in focus and
overlapped by a foreground window. also a bug?

3) and finally sometimes it flickers between the above two states: semi-
transparent and non-transparent.

It is not possible for me to find out the package causing it because of
"bulk" updating -- too many packages are on list and it is rather
impossible to update/upgrade them one-by-one and then test for the bug

[Bug 1585094] Re: Random stuck keys on Lenovo Yoga 13

2016-06-14 Thread vak
No. It was never consistently working. I've bought this Notebook in 2013
and installed Ubuntu 13.10 . The bug was there. Then the bug was
disappearing from time-to-time and appearing again. However it showed up
in each Ubuntu release starting from the very first release installed on
this notebook - since 13.10.

btw, I've never seen this bug on Windows on this dual-boot Notebook,
that's why I assume it is not a fatal hardware bug.

How could I debug this issue?

[Bug 1585094] Re: Random stuck keys on Lenovo Yoga 13

2016-05-24 Thread vak
The rundom stuck key effect has been seen not only for arrow keys
though. It happens also for ALT, CTRL and probably SHIFT and SUPPER --
it is not easy to recognize what special/control key gets stuck. The
random stuck key effect never has been seen with alphabet and numeric
keys though.

Since I use Neo2 keyboard layout, the conventional arrow keys could be
ignored and the Right AltGr+S,E,D,F could be used instead. Still, even
if the AltGr combination is used the random stuck key effect happens
with the same occasional rate.

[Bug 1291258] Re: [Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13] Stuck keys

2016-05-10 Thread vak
Please, re-open this annoying bug. BIOS update is available only for
some regions/submodels of Yoga Lenovo! The bug is recurring after distro
upgrades and then gets fixed by some other updates coming after in 2-3
months. It means, the bug indeed could be fixed without BIOS update.

Now this bug is again here after upgrade to 16.04 LTS.

It just happened to me that Alt-Tab suddenly stoped working in Ubuntu 15 under

If switched from Neo2 to other layout -- Alt-Tab works again, switching back to
Neo2 and it's not working.
Caveat: not sure though if it is an issue in xkeyboard-config !

[Bug 1335642] [NEW] mdadm runs into infinite loop and prevents initrd/initramfs phase to finish on boot

2014-06-29 Thread vak
Public bug reported:

Hi all,

probably the issue is caused by changing the SATA-port where RAID disks
were originally attached -- this is the only thing that happened before
my Ubuntu 14.04 (kernel-3.13.0-27) became unbootable.

During the boot the OS runs into infinite loop reporting from time to time
these:

incrementally starting raid arrays
mdadm: Create user root not found
mdadm: create group disk not found
incrementally started raid arrays

Since mdadm is in initrd image, I don't even know how to skip mdadm --
workarounds are very welcome, please!

For example, renaming /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf in initrd image didn't help,
mdadm then just repeats infinitely without group/user-related errors:

incrementally starting raid arrays
incrementally started raid arrays
incrementally starting raid arrays
incrementally started raid arrays
...

Disks are successfully assembled into a RAID under LiveCD Ubuntu 13 (yes
, i have only old CD here)

Why I consider this a bug? because my RAID-array is needed at
application level, not on OS-level (e.g. it is not mounted as / or
/boot). So, if one can't boot into OS it is a serious bug. Last but not
least, I was never choosing to put mdadm into initramfs, so it is a
decision taken by default that leads to not-bootable system...

[Bug 1313323] [NEW] mouse stops to react on clicks after the very first click upon login

2014-04-27 Thread vak
Public bug reported:

Hi

i am not sure this is really an xserver-xorg-input-synaptics bug, but
perhaps its developers are competent enough to pin it down.

To reproduce:

1. Login into your Ubuntu session
2. Click, say, on Terminal icon (Terminal starts just fine)
3. Try to move/resize the Terminal window -- no reaction at all, nothing is
clickable, albeit mouse moves fine
4. press Alt-Ctrl-F1 to jump into the text console and then just jump back to X
with Alt-Ctrl-F7 -- mouse works just fine then and bug never comes back until
next fresh login.

  Hi

i am not sure this is really an xserver-xorg-input-synaptics bug, but
- perhaps the its developers are competent enough to say it exacter.
+ perhaps its developers are competent enough to pin it down.

  To reproduce:

  1. Login in your Ubuntu session
  2. Click, say, on Terminal icon (Terminal starts just fine)
  3. Try to move/resize the Terminal window -- no reaction at all, nothing is
clickable, albeit mouse moves fine
  4. press Alt-Ctrl-F1 to jump into the text console and then just jump back to
X with Alt-Ctrl-F7 -- mouse works just fine then

[Bug 630138] [NEW] Freeze during extensive output to the console

2010-09-04 Thread vak
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Console suddenly stops to display any new data that massively comes from
an application (presumably via stderr).

The freeze can last 5 to 25min!

The application that performs output seems to sleep all this time. The
application is *not* interactive, that is, there is absolutely *no*
input from user expected and/or requested.

Console resumes the output when one tries to move the vertical scroller
bar.

[Bug 625671] [NEW] Tray view shows steady about 2x to 3x more CPU load than a full view

2010-08-27 Thread vak
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

1. The trayed mini-view shows about 60%-75% overal processor load when
mouse passes over the icon. Whereas the full view shows that both cores
are less than 20% loaded.

2. The back (dark blue) stripe in the Processor-window of the trayed
mini-view is almost always 50% or over and is higher than the front
(light-blue) stripe. I interpret the stripes as load graphs of my 2 CPU
Cores. If so, then it is again differs from the full view significantly,
because both CPUs are equally loaded according to the full view.

both issues are quite often to observe.

[Bug 604222] [NEW] USB mouse doesn't respond sometime on session start

2010-07-11 Thread vak
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

approximately every 20th login into gnome session I find that mouse
doesn't respond. The laser light is beaming OK though. It is easily
fixed by unplugging and plugin again in the mouse's USB connector.

Perhaps, the bug belongs not to the gnome-session, but, say, to X or to
the driver?

[Bug 376361] Re: Sierra MC8780 not working

2010-07-05 Thread vak
As for system update from yesterday (July 04, 2010) my MC8780 is still
not working.

As a tester I've did my best to help figure out why MC8780 doesn't work
in 9.x. Developers did their great successful efforts to make MC8780
working in Ubuntu 9.x. It worked. To be honest, I was hoping that all
these efforts have been incorporated in Ubuntu 10.04, but... I've
upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 and MC8780 stopped working, quite frustrating.

Can I help somehow again?..

[Bug 590656] [NEW] Very long lines in output kill scrolling performance

2010-06-07 Thread vak
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

I'd expect no visible slowdown even for very long lines that need
multiple wrapping to get displayed. Nevertheless slowdown is sometimes
so, that can cause gnome-terminal to lose response for a few minutes
(even tab switching is not possible).

(In last case it happened to be an output containing a line of 250K
dots.)

after test script exits with an error I see that this

described above crash. And I see that this

[Bug 413551] Re: pylucene-2.3.1-1 can't be compiled under Ubuntu Karmic (9.10) for AMD64

2009-08-14 Thread vak
OK.
SOLVED manually.

1. setuptools OR distutils should be installed.

2. I just entered the jcc dir and tried:

 python setup.py build

It stopped saying that I gotta apply a patch to distootils with
instructions on the screen about how to do it. I followed them and
patched things.

now

  sudo python setup.py install

and now I've returned to the root pylucene dir and makes steps over this error
point OK.
I am waiting for result now :)

Did people experience this on Hardy (8.04) as well, or just in Intrepid
(8.10)?

yes, Hardy also! (Ubuntu 8.04.2 )

When approximatelly could the patch be also available for it via get-apt
update/upgrade ?

I agree with user jh. For me the urgency is severe or high. I could
write a script to kill these processes, but this may kill healthy
activity too ... So, until a workaround is not clear for me it is severe
too. Also, I am quite worrying about the age of this bug in this
unsolved state. This looks for me like with current urgency we'll hardly
get it solved in somewhat reasonable time.

[Bug 146710] Re: backlight brighness control does not work (Samsung Q45 with Nvidia GForce 8400M)

2007-10-20 Thread vak
My Samsung P35 laptop worked good with Ubuntu Feisty 7.04.

Now I've upgraded my working Ubuntu to the recently published Ubuntu
7.10. In a few seconds after log in my laptop stops to react to
Fn+LightUp Fn-LightDown key combinations. Even worse: the screen starts
to flicker badly several minutes. I see instantly the backlight
adjustment mini-window.

cat /proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness
not supported

Laptop became almost unusable, flickering makes me crazy.
