[Bug 1854798] Re: Synaptics s3203 touchpad not working after update to kernel 4.15.0-72-generic

2019-12-11 Thread viv
I have a dell machine, Synaptics TM3108-002 touchpad, ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS.
I faced the same problem after update to kernel 4.15.0-72-generic, touchpad
stopped working. I was directed to this link and it kind of solved my problem.
I initially wanted to reboot it with kernel 4.15.70-generic but did not know
how to do it and the easier option I found was @AaronMa solution.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mapengyu/bionic-oem
sudo apt-get update

sudo apt install linux-image-unsigned-4.15.0-73-generic linux-
modules-4.15.0-73-generic linux-modules-extra-4.15.0-73-generic

After I followed his solution, touchpad started working again

Question: Since I get it from ppa associated with mapengyu, is it a
legit ubuntu kernel. I mean it works fine for now but in future will it
get normal ubuntu updates as generally my machine gets? So, suppose the
ubuntu software updater wants to update it from 4.15.0-73-generic to
4.15.0-75-generic in future, will it accept the updates and in tun apply
the update?

Question: why does this ppa come from a private user mapengyu and not
from ubuntu folks itself?

Question: For how long do I need to keep the ppa mapengyu added to my
machine. In future can I remove it?

Question : How do I reboot my machine with kernel 4.15.0-70-generic?
(this is just from my curiosity and not need because @AaronMa
suggestion, made my tochpad responsive again)

It shows that my wifi switch is on.

The LAN connection is also crappy. Each half an hour (sometimes less) I
have to connect it again.

Upgrade now worked fine - system selected ftp.Oleane.net as best source.

Must admit now struggling with apparent inflexibility of Unity Dash -
may revert to Classic as disadvantages seem to outweigh small
improvement in screen depth.

Thank you for all your help. It has been much appreciated.

Your suggestion to change source looks promising as install got past
previous point but now reports insufficient space on hard drive. I am
now in process of clearing up the hard drive. I will let you know how I

[Bug 267152] Re: cannot change smtp settings

2008-10-02 Thread Viv
If I Open evolution and log into my email accounts, I can download email from
my inbox. When I click on the "Send / Receive" button i see the attached error
pop-up. The problem is that I have not configured evolution to look up host
"smtp.auth.1and1.co.uk" it should be connecting to "auth.smtp1and1.co.uk". I
also tried deleting the 1and1.co.uk mailbox and adding a different mailbox with
02, the outgoing mail server is smtp.02.co.uk but it is still giving me the
attached pop-up error message.
I can repeat this any number of times by clicking the "Send / Receive" button
in the toolbar.

I can't seem to stop it looking up this host.. any ideas?

many thanks viv

i think the trouble i am having is that it doesn't matter what i type in the
smtp host address, evolution always tries to connect to smtp.auth.1and1.co.uk
is there anyway i can manually delete this host from evolution config file?

[Bug 267152] [NEW] cannot change smtp settings

2008-09-06 Thread Viv
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I receive error message

Host lookup failed "smtp.auth.1and1.co.uk"; Name and Service not known -
and cannot send mail

Problem is that the host i typed into the smtp settings was
auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk and evolution is ignoring the host i have specified.
The server requires the same authentication as inbound mail.

I have deleted account, recreated it, rebooted, recreated it, I cannot
clear this setting and evolution always performs this host lookup
ignoring the host name i have specified.

version info: 2.22.3.1

ubuntu : 8.04.1

I expect to be able to change the smtp host name and evolution should
connect to the host that I specify.
