Hello, With dual monitors connected I shut down the offending laptop. As usually happens with both monitors connected - both screens go black - and shutdown apparently stops. [Bug 1099846] [NEW] with dual monitors connected, ubuntu will not shutdown
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS - this is a fresh installation Macbookpro8,1 Intel i5 processor intel sandybridge mobile graphics If a second monitor is connected, ubuntu freezes during shut down and log out. If the second monitor is disconnected, shut down proceeds as normal. To reproduce: setup dual monitors try to shut down the system I also noted this behaviour on 12.10 ubuntu, but have since reverted to 12.04 for a different reason. [Bug 1061639] Re: Upstartification of /etc/init.d/networking has lost deconfiguring-networking event causing bad side-effects
I also am concerned about this hidden bug - I only discovered there was an issue when I noticed that boot times were longer than normal. I have converted all my main computers to 12.10 64 bit... They all show this behaviour with messaged like: [1.111309] EXT4-fs (sdb1): INFO: recovery required on readonly filesystem [1.111314] EXT4-fs (sdb1): write access will be enabled during recovery ... I have tried to follow yota's suggested fix, but could not get that to work. On one laptop (macbookpro7,1 dual boot) shutting down networking before shutting down the computer stops the behaviour - but this is not true for the desktop systems (win7 dual boot). Hello, I'm sorry, but I removed ubuntu unity, and replaced with Ubuntu mint 13. [Bug 907340] [NEW] Windows do not behave properly in WINE applications with mutter as window manager
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu 11.10 Release:11.10 unity: Installed: 4.24.0-0ubuntu2.1 Candidate: 4.24.0-0ubuntu2.1 I expected WINE applications to act as normal ubuntu applications. See below for my observations. I have tried using WINE 1.3.35, 1.3.28 and 1.2 all with the same result: WINE applications run well in 11.10 except for a few very annoying issues: - when a window first opens, it doesn't interact with the mouse properly: 1) no matter where the window opens on the screen, menus will open in the top corner of the display 2) you cannot select text properly in text boxes/fields, the mouse selection jumps all over the screen Both of these behaviors disappear if you move the windows a little with the mouse before you try to select text or select a menu. It is like the application is unsure of where the window is on the screen, until you move it a bit. I've tried a few things to solve this: - switching the riched20.dll native (didn't work) - switching between various versions of wine (didn't work) - When I turn off allow the window manager to decorate the windows' and 'allow the window manager to control the windows' this strange behaviour disappears. However, this makes the Wine application windows always stay on top of everything else - interfering with work. -booting into Gnome 3 also solves this problem - so it seems to be connected to Unity's window manager? WINE support directed me to file a bug with Ubuntu... Public bug reported: I have a desktop and laptop computer both running ubuntu 11.10. The desktop has a HP F4180 printer connected via USB. The printer is working on the desktop machine. I have shared this printer and selected Publish shared printers connected to the system in the printers network menu on the desktop. On the laptop (which connects to the home network via wireless) I've selected show printers shared by other system. The shared F4180 printer shows up on the laptop's printer list. However, when I select the printer for printing, or try to view it's properties the printing system hangs...like it is stuck trying to communicate with the printer... I'm not sure how to fix this, because even when I run the Problems? troubleshooter from Ubuntu's Printing app the system hangs Description:Ubuntu 11.10 Release:11.10 cups: Installed: 1.5.0-8ubuntu4 Candidate: 1.5.0-8ubuntu4 Version table: *** 1.5.0-8ubuntu4 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric-proposed/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1.5.0-8ubuntu3 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric-updates/main amd64 Packages 1.5.0-8 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: cups 1.5.0-8ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-13.21-generic 3.0.6 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-13-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4 Architecture: amd64 Date: Sun Oct 30 07:30:10 2011 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot - Release amd64 (20111012) Lpstat: device for Deskjet_F4100: hp:/usb/Deskjet_F4100_series?serial=CN79J5Z1QS04TJ MachineType: ACER Aspire M5630 Papersize: letter PpdFiles: Deskjet_F4100: HP Deskjet f4100 Series, hpcups 3.11.7 ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.0.0-13-generic root=UUID=e292558c-3ff2-47d1-a54d-faa8a10fe959 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: cups UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 08/28/2007 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: R01-A3 dmi.board.asset.tag: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.board.name: EG31M dmi.board.vendor: ACER dmi.board.version: R01-A3 dmi.chassis.asset.tag: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.chassis.vendor: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.chassis.version: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvrR01-A3:bd08/28/2007:svnACER:pnAspireM5630:pvrR01-A3:rvnACER:rnEG31M:rvrR01-A3:cvnToBeFilledByO.E.M.:ct3:cvrToBeFilledByO.E.M.: dmi.product.name: Aspire M5630 dmi.product.version: R01-A3 dmi.sys.vendor: ACER ** Affects: cups (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug oneiric -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/883807 Title: can't share printer between 11.10 computers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/883807/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
