[Bug 1662552] Re: snaps don't work with NFS home

2024-05-22 Thread William
Hello, we have NFS homes with no_root_squash, and none of the previous
solutions work. There is still the error "snap-store_snap-
store.desktop[106283]: cannot open path of the current working
directory: Permission denied" when we want to run the Snap Store so that
users can install applications. I tried disabling AppArmor, but it had
no effect.

Perhaps postfix needs to be part of the installation gui when
initialized if it is turned on by default or turned on and set up after
installation on the welcome screen?

What you can do to avoid the prompt is setting the DEBIAN_FRONTEND
environment variable to 'noninteractive' when calling apt and the
default values will be used.

how would I do this?

[Bug 2065546] Re: postfix configuration must be set on 24.04 before apt package manager can be used

2024-05-12 Thread William Hatheway
it is important to know that postfix is not installed on my system and
yet it still pops up as part of the apt issue.

[Bug 2065546] [NEW] postfix configuration must be set on 24.04 before apt package manager can be used

2024-05-12 Thread William Hatheway
Public bug reported:

When trying to set up a new 24.04 installation and use the following
commands, you MUST configure postfix even if it is not installed.

sudo -S apt -y install autoconf automake bison build-essential byacc
cmake csh curl default-jdk default-jre emacs flex g++ gawk gcc gfortran
git ksh libcurl4-openssl-dev libjpeg-dev libncurses6 libpixman-1-dev
libpng-dev libtool libxml2 libxml2-dev m4 make  ncview okular openbox
pipenv pkg-config  python3 python3-dev python3-pip python3-dateutil tcsh
unzip xauth xorg time

Even using the askubuntu help page about installing it and purging it
did not make the bug go away. You have to set up and install postfix to
use apt.

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1192156/how-to-completely-erase-postfix

I expect that the postfix prompt wouldn't show up like I would see in
22.04.

Only in 24.04 does this happen.

Thank you for reporting this. Reading the code in
https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/phpmyadmin/tree/libraries/classes/Mime.php?h=ubuntu/noble

It has no relation to Symfony. That's great !
But probably has something to do with PHP 8.3

Where do I go in the github to assist with creating a scroll by pixel

[Bug 2056364] [NEW] Add test script for DPLL

2024-03-06 Thread William Tu
Public bug reported:

* intro

In bug 2053155 "Add DPLL and syncE support" below:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-bluefield/+bug/2053155

It requires using a yaml spec file, dpll.yaml, and a python script, cli.py, to
verify the correctness.
ex:
$ sudo ./tools/net/ynl/cli.py --spec Documentation/netlink/specs/dpll.yaml \
--dump device-get

We've found that the script and spec file are missing in current repo
(Ubuntu-bluefield-5.15.0-1037.39).

* how to fix
Since the existing Bluefield-5.15 doesn't have the tools/net/ynl directory, the
efforts to cherry-pick all individual patches shouldn't be too hard due to no
dependencies and most likely no conflict, but there are around 200 patches in
tools/net/ynl
$ git log --oneline tools/net/ynl/ | wc -l
 205

and for Documentation/netlink/genetlink.yaml (a dependent file for dpll.yaml)
$ git log --oneline Documentation/netlink/genetlink.yaml | wc -l
  15

So we decided to just create a new patch consisting all the required files,
shown below:
  create mode 100644 Documentation/netlink/genetlink.yaml
  create mode 100644 tools/net/ynl/cli.py
  create mode 100644 tools/net/ynl/lib/__init__.py
  create mode 100644 tools/net/ynl/lib/nlspec.py
  create mode 100644 tools/net/ynl/lib/ynl.py

[Bug 1828107] Re: gvfs can't list shares from smb servers that disabled SMB1

2023-03-27 Thread William Maddox
@ BloodyIron It looks like the problem you are experiencing is the same
issue as I have had. I think the reason that it works after you kill
gvfsd-smb-browse is that your FreeNAS server is advertising itself via
mDNS, and gvfsd will see that. You don't need SMB1 or WSDD for gvfsd to
discover your NAS. But it is also looking for a "Windows Network" (i.e.
the Windows "network neighborhood" or workgroup that shows up as a
separate subfolder) using SMB1, and that fails if the server does not
provide SMB1. Crucially, however, it fails in a way that leaves the
gvfsd-smb-browse process in a bad state where it fails to allow browsing
of the server even though it has been discovered via mDNS. I encourage
you to take a look at my patch, or to use the PPA at
https://launchpad.net/~wmaddox3rd/+archive/ubuntu/gvfs-smb-sharelist-
patch. It does indeed look like there is a bug here in that attempting
discovery via SMB1 somehow breaks browsing of the server discovered via
mDNS.

See also my remarks here:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/-/issues/307#note_1632096

[Bug 1828107] Re: gvfs can't list shares from smb servers that disabled SMB1

2023-01-03 Thread William Maddox
Inspired by BloodyIron's comments above, I investigated this issue and
was able to develop a patch that solves this problem for my use case:
browsing NAS devices running TrueNAS and OpenMediaVault. It appears
that the gvfsd-smb-browse process is left in a bad state after
attempting to mount a workgroup, which occurs either when attempting to
open an URL like smb://WORKGROUP/ or during network discovery in gvfsd-
network. My patch simply disables workgroup discovery/browsing
functionality, leaving *browsing* functionality intact for servers that
are *discovered* via DNS-SD (mDNS). This does not address the issue of
discovering Windows 10 servers that advertise themselves only via WS-
Discovery, but appears to work fine for devices that advertise
themselves using mDNS, allowing those devices to be successfully
browsed.

I note that workgroups are an obsolete concept in a post-NT1 (post-SMB1)
world, so the offending code should eventually just be yanked out, along
with the addition of support for WS-Discovery in Linux. My patch does
not address the root cause, as whatever is going wrong while attempting
to mount a workgroup should result in a recoverable error. I traced
gvfsbackendsmbbrowse.c:do_mount() up to the point at which
smbc_opendir() is called without any surprises, whereupon things went
south. I did not investigate any further, but if I were to do so, I'd
be inclined to take a look for an unreleased lock.

** Patch added: "Disable broken workgroup discovery/browsing"

[Bug 1799268] Re: CIFS option 'cruid' does not appear to work properly with 'multiuser' and 'vers=1.0'

2022-06-03 Thread William Blew
I have precisely the same issue. Here is a related RedHat bug. It seems
they fixed it, twice, and pushed two? patches upstream. The first
attempt got merged, but their second more complete patch (that seems to
address this scenario) seems to have gone missing.

Here is the RedHat bug report:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=517195

Edited: While following up, I realized that while the RedHat bug's
commentary implies there was a later, more complete fix, I could not
find any such patch attached to that bug report.

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libntlm/1.6-4/+build/22298428
+
+ [Availability]
+ * The package is already in Ubuntu universe.
+ * The package build for the architectures it is designed to work on.
+
+ [Rationale]
+ *This MIR is transitive for an MIR of gsasl. It is needed to resolve
+ a component mismatch for mutt
+
+ [Security]
+ * CVE-2019-17455 was fixed and is the only CVE listed for this package
+ * No `suid` or `sgid` binaries
+ * No executables in `/sbin` and `/usr/sbin`
+ * Package does not install services, timers or recurring jobs
+ * Packages does not open privileged ports (ports < 1024)

+
+ [Quality assurance - testing]
+ * The package runs a test suite on build time, if it fails

+ * The package runs an autopkgtest, and is currently passing
+ * The package does have not failing autopkgtests right now
+
+ [Quality assurance - packaging]
+ * debian/watch is present and works

[Bug 1972866] Re: [MIR] gsasl

2022-05-31 Thread William Wilson
** Description changed:

- TDB by foundations
+ [Summary]
+ * Everything seems in order with this package, but it should
+ be reviewed by the security team due to the nature of the package.
+ * Build log:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/564514219/buildlog_ubuntu-jammy-amd64.gsasl_1.10.0-5_BUILDING.txt.gz

- Also, most probably needs transitive MIR for libntlm
+ [Availability]
+ * The package is already available in Ubuntu universe and builds for the
required architectures
+
+ [Rationale]
+ * mutt (which is in main) used to depend on cyrus-sasl. Due to a
+ licensing conflict between mutt and cyrus-sasl, it has been updated
+ to use gsasl and drop the dependency on cyrus-sasl. This change
+ has been made in Debian. Mutt is used by a large part of our
+ user base, so continuing to provide it is important.
+
+ [Security]
+ * Package gsasl and associated libraries do not have any
+ security red-flags, but should still be reviewed by
+ the security team due to the nature of the package (it
+ authenticates users to servers)
+ * No CVEs/security issues in this software in the past
+ * No `suid` or `sgid` binaries
+ * No executables in `/sbin` and `/usr/sbin`
+ * Package does not install services, timers or recurring jobs
+ * Package does not open privileged ports (ports < 1024)
+

2022-05-24 Thread William Tyler Sontag
Public bug reported:

Looks like this was a breaking change introduced in 0.2.9 release in Jan
2022, it has since been patched

https://github.com/NilsBrause/waylandpp/releases

Debian article about the bug https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1006812

Which would be good since Ubuntu only has 0.2.8 in its repo but i
believe that the issue was patched backwards into 0.2.8-2, judging by
the identical error message.

Recommend including 0.2.10 or higher in the stable ubuntu repo to
address

[Bug 1970761] Re: Upgrades to 22.04 can cause netplan failures on Raspi

2022-05-02 Thread William Wilson
** Description changed:

- The default netplan yaml configuration file on Raspi for older releases
- is
+ [Impact]
+ * In Jammy, Netplan commands fail if the following
+ lines are present in the netplan config file:
+   ```
+   match:
+  driver: bcmgenet smsc95xx lan78xx
+   ```
+ * Those lines are present in the default netplan config
+ for Raspberry Pis in focal, hirsute, and impish
+ * As a result, upgrades to jammy from older releases
+ lead to netplan failures and broken networking
+
+ [Test Plan]
+ * Install impish on a Raspberry Pi
+ * Upgrade to jammy using `do-release-upgrade -d`
+ * Run `sudo netplan apply` and observe the command
+ fails and the networking does not work
+ * Reinstall impish on the Raspberry Pi
+ * Upgrade to jammy using `do-release upgrade -d` with
+   the proposed pocket enabled
+ * Run `sudo netplan apply` and observe that the
+ command succeeds and networking is functional
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ * Since ubuntu-release-upgrader is modifying
+ netplan's config, it is possible that custom
+ configs could be impacted where not intended.
+
+ [Original Description]
+ The default netplan yaml configuration file on Raspi for older releases is

  ```
  network:
- ethernets:
- eth0:
- dhcp4: true
- match:
- driver: bcmgenet smsc95xx lan78xx
- optional: true
- set-name: eth0
- version: 2
+ ethernets:
+ eth0:
+ dhcp4: true
+ match:
+ driver: bcmgenet smsc95xx lan78xx
+ optional: true
+ set-name: eth0
+ version: 2
  ```

  In the version of netplan in jammy, the match section is no longer
  needed and causes netplan failures due to incompatible formatting. A
  quirk should be made to remove the match section.

[Bug 1969979] [NEW] UC22 armhf Raspi images are failing to build

2022-04-22 Thread William Wilson
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * With the current version of snapd vendored in ubuntu-image,
   UC22 armhf+raspi image builds fail with the following error:

```
   mv: cannot stat
'/tmp/ubuntu-image-824a59fe-574a-4d00-8669-f16d22bbe23e/unpack/system-seed/systems/20220422/kernel/dtbs/broadcom/*':
 No such file or directory
```

[Test Plan]

 * Download the Raspberry Pi UC22 armhf edge model assertion

 * Run the command: `ubuntu-image snap `

 * Observe the error listed above

 * Install ubuntu-image from jammy-proposed

 * Run the same `ubuntu-image` command again

 * Observe an image is successfully created

[Where problems could occur]

 * This will be solved by vendoring a newer version of snapd.
   Any undetected bugs in snapd could cause regressions here.

 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1969689] [NEW] USB devices not detected on CM4

2022-04-20 Thread William Wilson
Public bug reported:

USB devices are not working on the CM4. When running `lsusb` the hub is
detected, but devices are not.

@waveform was able to confirm the issue. The line
`dtoverlay=dwc2,dr_mode=host` is present in config.txt. We suspect this
to be a dtb/kernel issue. This is happening on both armhf and arm64.

2022-04-15 Thread William Andrea
I think this is caused by a deadsnakes issue
(https://github.com/deadsnakes/issues/issues/207), which I was
experiencing myself (and resolved by following the instructions on
GitHub), but it was just making the upgrade fail, not making update
crash. It might be affecting you worse because it looks like you've set
python3.10 as "python", probably by symlinking /usr/bin/python ->
/usr/bin/python3.10, which contradicts python-is-python2.

[Bug 1965157] Re: containerd is FTBFS with Go 1.18

Lucas,

Changing go.mod to rely on Go 1.17 does actually cause it to FTBFS. The
errors are related to vendored modules not being explicitly required in
go.mod. Is this something we should tackle now?

We have a plan to fix some of the SHA1 packages by allowing SHA1
certificates in the test cases only. This will allow the tests to fail
without changing the behavior of the compiled binaries. It will be
accomplished using the GODEBUG=x509sha1=1 environment variable in
override_dh_auto_test

[Bug 1964270] Re: Feature Freeze Exception: Update golang-defaults to 1.18

2022-03-16 Thread William Wilson
Go 1.18 has released and test rebuilds have been completed.

Go 1.18 has made the decision to deny SHA1 certificates by default. Per
the release notes: "crypto/x509 will now reject certificates signed with
the SHA-1 hash function. This doesn't apply to self-signed root
certificates. Practical attacks against SHA-1 have been demonstrated
since 2017 and publicly trusted Certificate Authorities have not issued
SHA-1 certificates since 2015."

The packages below will be marked as having the "SHA1 issue" if this is
the only reason for an FTBFS.

The following packages are FTBFS with Go 1.18 but not Go 1.17:

containerd (patch created on bug 1965157)

golang-github-aws-aws-sdk-go (SHA1 issue:

There is a redirect in go.mod and in vendor/modules.txt to redirect
containerd to an empty module. This is not compatible with Go 1.18 and
should therefore be removed. Removal has not caused any problems with Go
1.17.

[Bug 1964270] [NEW] Feature Freeze Exception: Update golang-defaults to 1.18

2022-03-08 Thread William Wilson
Public bug reported:

This change is necessary because we always update to the latest Go
version before each release.

Go's source does not provide a changelog, but the changes in 1.18 can be
seen at https://golang.org/doc/go1.18

Go 1.18 is not yet released, though it was originally due to be released
in February. I have already set up no change rebuild PPAs to rebuild
against Go 1.18, and initial attempts with the beta have gone very
smoothly. I will update this bug with more information about those
rebuilds when I have been able to complete them against a released
version of Go 1.18.

Excellent work. Just one comment, it's best practice to add the "please
merge" bug number in the changelog. That way this bug will be
automatically closed when the package is uploaded. I'll go ahead and add
that in before I sponsor it.

[Bug 1927063] Re: Terminal prompt got strangely replicated when resizing terminal horizontally

2022-02-05 Thread William Andrea
I can reproduce the same issue with Python and Node interpreters. I
think the problem is related to readline, because the issue only affects
the line where the cursor is, and if I launch Python without it (gnome-
terminal -- python3 -I), I can't reproduce the issue.

[Bug 1960083] Re: dirname applet missing from initramfs

2022-02-04 Thread William Wilson
** Description changed:

  The initramfs is currently being built without the dirname applet. This
  is causing issues with zfs encrypted devices, as cryptsetup is
  attempting to use dirname to determine the location of the system key.
  This results in the following error:

  /init: line 971: dirname: not found

  followed by a prompt that is missing the zpool name. For example

  "Please unlock disk keystore-" rather than "Please unlock disk keystore-
  rpool".

  After entering the password, the user is dropped to an initramfs shell.
+
+ It appears that this was caused by a change in cryptsetup to suddenly
+ need dirname to function properly.

[Bug 1928209] Re: use of patchelf in classic leads to dri drivers segfaulting

2022-02-03 Thread William Wilson
I came across this while working on the ubuntu-image snap, and have
narrowed down the root cause a bit further. In the ubuntu-image snap,
`du` was experiencing a segmentation fault because the RPATH was not set
by snapcraft's patchelf.

In snapcraft/internal/elf.py (func _dtermine_libraries) the logic for
setting up the patchelf command is:

```
try an ldd command
if
try the same ldd command with LD_PRELOAD
if
use patchelf to set the interpreter of the binary
if
try a new ldd command with LD_TRACE_LOADED_OBJECTS
if
use patchelf to set the interpreter and rpath of the binary
if
return error
```

This logic leads to inconsistent patchelf commands being constructed
based on the environment in which they are tried. In my example, I found
that I had two different lxc containers, both 18.04, in which different
patchelf commands were being executed on many of the binaries found in
the coreutils package. I eventually traced it back to the environment
variable "SHELL=" in one of the containers. SHELL being set was causing
different behavior in the second `ldd` command between the two
environments.

While my SHELL environment issue is just one example, there are likely
more. The patchelf command that is constructed by snapcraft should be
consistent and not subject to environment variables in the host system.

For further debugging, here are strace logs for the second ldd command
in the "working" and "not working (segmentation fault)" environments.
Note that the working environment expects this second ldd command to
fail so it can move on to the LD_TRACE_LOADED_OBJECTS command

[Bug 1952960] [NEW] Remove src:lava from ubuntu

2021-12-01 Thread William Wilson
Public bug reported:

lava should be removed from Ubuntu at least until there is a new
upstream version that can be synced from Debian. It does not work with
newer versions of python3-django and is currently blocking migration of
psycopg2.

lava is a leaf package with no reverse dependencies:
jawn-smith@desktop:~$ reverse-depends src:lava
No reverse dependencies found

** Affects: lava (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1951439] Re: Sync golang-defaults 2:1.17~1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2021-11-30 Thread William Wilson
This bug was fixed in the package golang-defaults - 2:1.17~1

---
golang-defaults (2:1.17~1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Update to Go 1.17.
  * Update man pages to Go 1.17
  * Convert golang-src "Architecture: all" and marked "Multi-Arch: foreign"
as recommended by the Multiarch hinter on Debian Package Tracker
  * Mark Multi-Arch for golang-go and golang-doc
to resolve Lintian dependency-is-not-multi-archified warnings
