[Bug 1683034] Re: package plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text 0.9.2-3ubuntu15 failed to install/upgrade: dependency problems - leaving triggers unprocessed

2017-04-17 Thread zdzichu
do-release-upgrade did a partial upgrade, ending with error (don't
remember specific right now). Afterward I tried to finish upgrade with
'apt full-upgrade' it ended with:

Removing 'diversion of
/usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.systemd1.service to
/usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.systemd1.service.systemd by
systemd-shim'
dpkg-divert: error: rename involves overwriting
'/usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.systemd1.service' with
  different file
'/usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.systemd1.service.systemd',
not allowed
dpkg: error processing package systemd-shim (--remove):
subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 2

At this point dialog window appeared about problem with distribution and
a question if I want to report the bug. I agreed, and here's the report
that was autogenerated.

I was able to finish upgrade by manually removing '/usr/share/dbus-1
/system-services/org.freedesktop.systemd1.service.systemd' file.

Feel free to close this report, as I am unable at this point to provide
more logs than was gathered by auto-reporter.

[Bug 351586] [NEW] please add lenovo-sl-laptop to ubuntu sauce

2009-03-30 Thread zdzichu
Public bug reported:

Please add driver for Lenovo SL Thinkpads to kernel. Those laptops are not
really Thinkpads, and without additional driver they are half-working. Things
which won't function properly without driver:
- bluetooth
- volume keys
- brightness control

Not working volume keys are minor thing, but no functioning BT and
brightness are real issues.

Driver is available here:
http://github.com/tetromino/lenovo-sl-laptop/tree/master
It compiles without problem with Jaunty Beta kernel, I've tested it on Thinkpad
SL500.
It is being proposed for inclusion in kernel proper:
http://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/7427/
Additionaly, as it only adding functionality, it won't cause any regressions.

[Bug 153521] Re: fonts are blurred with subpixel rendering

2009-03-20 Thread zdzichu
Just for kicks, I've downloaded Ubuntu 9.04 Alpha6, installed and dist-upgraded
to latest development version. And this bug still isn't fixed... There are
still color bands next to vertical elements of letters. See especially letter
M on attached screenshot.
Letter rendering got broken in 2007 in Ubuntu and still isn't fixed. I suggest
you look into Fedora package -- there is no problem in their package.
I'm attaching composite screenshot. Upper part os from Fedora 10, with
fontconfig-2.6.0-3.fc10.x86_64. Letters are crisp. Below is the same fragment
of screen from current development Ubuntu, with blurred letters.
Both system were configured identically in Appearance preferences -- LCD
subhinting, 86 DPI, 10pt Sans font, medium hinting.

[Bug 135083] Re: resume from STR is very slow on Thinkpad z61t

2008-08-03 Thread zdzichu
Numbers? See first post. Also see link in second post about how little time
kernel takes to resume. Rest of this time is consumed by userland -- pm-utils
and ubuntu scripts, videocard resuming and so on. Fixing this need optimisation
of whole stack and some additional work.
Videocard issues are fixed by moving modesetting to kernel (there is some old
video on Phoronix showing differences). Intel modesetting is available on
Fedora for example.
I am vaguely aware of other issues. Linux desktop stat()s too much files, waits
too much and not paralleises things enough. Matthew Garrett's presentation from
LUGRadio Live depicts sorry state of linux suspend and resume.
So, there is hardware like OLPC XO-1, where optimised stack allows resuming in
300 ms. There are Macs, which are for all practical purposes identical
hardware, yet with optimized OS X they resume in 3 seconds. And finally, there
are Ubuntu systems, which resume slowly, ten times longer that macs, hundred
times slower than XO-1. This bug is about deficency in Linux, about pointing to
a problem (like famous bug #1). I'm aware that it cannot be fixed by just
integrating other's work, but some development should be done by Ubuntu devs.

It very sad turnout. There was no rescheduling in earlier kernels

current hardy I couldn't get lower tha 14.3W, even with SATA link
powermanagement on, with tickless, jiffy rounding and all other
imrovements. This rescheduling issue appear to kill all gains from

2008-03-05 Thread zdzichu
Resume from suspend got faster in Hardy. It takes few seconds to have
working system. But is still far cry from Mac OS X performance.
According to kernel developer¹, kernel resume takes 1-2 seconds. So
slowness I'm observing is caused by userspace. Any hints how to profile
it?

[Bug 198494] [NEW] can't use bluetooth headset

2008-03-04 Thread zdzichu
Public bug reported:

I have in ~/.asoundrc:
#v+
pcm.bluetooth {
   type bluetooth
   device 00:13:70:59:F0:3D
}

when I run mplayer -ao alsa:device=bluetooth some.mp3 I get:

BT_SETCONFIGURATION failed : Input/output error(5)
[AO_ALSA] Unable to set hw-parameters: Input/output error

slazZ, good shot! X60 have the same PCI ID but do not have tv-out
psychically, so we were bitten by quirk for it.

[Bug 177492] Re: EXA is balls-achingly slow

2008-01-11 Thread zdzichu
Switch back to XAA is bad because:
1) Ubuntu users will be deprived of textured video and power saving (by the way
of fb compression) for a year¹
2) XAA is basically deprecated and its bugs are fixed as second priority. Do
you want to release LTS with driver abandoned by upstream?

¹ textured video was disabled on intel driver shipped in 7.10. EXA will
be disabled in 8.04. This way Ubuntu users will get those features no
sooner than 8.10.

[Bug 160309] Re: X crashes when idle

2008-01-11 Thread zdzichu
In up-to-date Hardy (equivalent of Alpha 3) crash is still here. Right
now I left screen locked and when I got back to computer, GDM login
screen was displayed (X crashed and got restarted). Electricsheep
screensaver displays .mpg movies using mpeg2dec_onroot, maybe Xvideo
extension is to blame.

[Bug 160309] Re: X crashes when idle

2007-12-04 Thread zdzichu
I have lockups on i945.

After disabling gnome-screensaver I had NO lockups for two weeks.

Yesterday I've locked display when leaving my laptop. This run
screensaver with electricsheep module. After few hours I get back, moved
mouse, screen turned on and unlock dialog appeared. I didn't unlock,
left system for one more hour. After this hour I moved mouse and screen
didn't turn back on, keyboard wasn't reacting to ctrl-alt-backspace and
X looked hung. I've sshed into laptop, killed X, but screen remained
black.

[Bug 153521] Re: fonts are blurred with subpixel rendering

2007-11-06 Thread zdzichu
Reducing fonts size to 7 (from 8) on Gutsy make letters little more bearable,
but still not in Feisty quality.
See attached feisty-vs-gutsy.png. Upper menu is from Gutsy, font size 7pt.
Lower is from Feisty 8pt. This is the same font (DejaVu Sans), but in Feisty it
was ideally pixel-aligned and sharp. In Gutsy it's fuzzy.

[Bug 153521] Re: fonts are blurred with subpixel rendering

2007-10-28 Thread zdzichu
This is a bug. Default configuration even turn off this atrocity for small
fonts. The problem is small defined as 12 or less points. Which is insane, as
small fonts are 7 or less. I have all fonts size 9 or 10, so this working
(legacy) filter should be uses for all of them.
Current Ubuntu configuration causes eyestrain and by extensions is dangerous
for health.

Morover, proposed change didn't affect banding much. There are still
color stripes at letter side. I can't get back to sharp Feisty
rendering.

[Bug 153521] fonts are blurred with subpixel rendering

2007-10-17 Thread zdzichu
Public bug reported:

On Gutsy beta fonts are blurred when subpixel aliasing is enabled. They
are sharp again when I check ,,best shapes'' rendering mode, thus
disabling subpixel rendering.

In Feisty fonts were sharp with subpixel enabled. I'm attaching two
screenshots for comparison. One is from Feisty with supixel and sharp
font. Second is from Gutsy. ,,best shapes'' are sharp, subpixel are
blurred -- there are color bands on the sides of vertical elements.
There werent's such bands in Feisty.

I'm using 14.1 LCD with 1440x900, which gives 120 DPI.

[Bug 141522] Re: [gutsy] faulty Xv extension since latest update

2007-10-17 Thread zdzichu
Confirming this bug. Intel driver 2:2.1.1-0ubuntu9 doesn't provide

[Bug 144453] Re: [gutsy] evince opens taller than the screen, hangs off the bottom

2007-10-07 Thread zdzichu
Some more information: screen size is 1440x900. Freshly mapped, too tall Evince
info (xwinifo):
Absolute upper-left X: 5
  Absolute upper-left Y: 48
  Relative upper-left X: 5
  Relative upper-left Y: 48
  Width: 1269
  Height: 900
[...]
  Corners: +5+48 -166+48 -166--48 +5--48
  -geometry 1269x900+5+48

Evince chooses win height as MIN from requested by document and screen size. In
this case Evince got 900 px tall. And this is from upper edge of menu bar to
lower edge of status bar. That's real, usable window size.
But it's moved by 48px. Why? Because at the top of screen there is 24px tall
panel. And window title bar, drawn by gtk-window-decorator, is 24px tall also.
I don't now if Evince can check for ,,usable'' screen height and use this
dimensions instead of ,,total'' screen height. Maybe there is some GTK call. It
would be nice to get some Evince developer comment at this bug.

[Bug 144070] patches from lesswatts.org

2007-09-22 Thread zdzichu
Public bug reported:

Intel provided website with some tips and patches regarding reducing
energy consumption. According to website, these patches are destined to
enter mainstream kernel soon. It would be good to include them in Gutsy

important to mobile users.

Those patches seem to provide really significant work time extension, for
example form 4 hours to almost 8:

[Bug 135083] resume from STR is very slow on Thinkpad z61t

2007-08-27 Thread zdzichu
Public bug reported:

I don't know which package/component is responsible for this.

Distro: Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 with all updates.

Resume from Suspend-To-Ram is very slow. I've measured times with
stopwatch, hitting start while opening the lid. Times in seconds:

0 - laptop lid opened
1 - reaction - LEDs blinks, suspend LED start to blink, harddrive starts
13 - screen turned on in text mode
22 - screen flickers few times, switching between text and graphic modes
29 - xscreensaver password prompt appears

So, half minute to workin system. Order of magnitude more than
acceptable time. Considering that Macbooks Pro with Mac OS X are able
to unsuspend while lid is beeing opened (2-3 seconds)... this should be
fixed.

My hardware is Lenovo Thinkpad Z61t with Intel graphics.

[Bug 74587] Re: Thinkpad z61t integrated camera doesn't work

2007-04-07 Thread zdzichu
This camera uses sn9c201 chip with OV7660 sensor. It supposedly
supported by gspca driver from http://mxhaard.free.fr/news.html . Anyone
interested should contact with people on spca5x-devs list
(http://sourceforge.net/mail/?group_id=28498 ).

[Bug 103423] no hdaps on ThinkPad z61t (regression)

2007-04-05 Thread zdzichu
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from Edgy to Feisty, hdaps module couldn't be loaded
anymore:

# modprobe hdaps
FATAL: Error inserting hdaps
(/lib/modules/2.6.20-13-generic/kernel/drivers/hwmon/hdaps.ko): No such device

[134330.492000] hdaps: supported laptop not found!
[134330.492000] hdaps: driver init failed (ret=-19)!

It worked fine on Edgy, probably thanks to some patch. Vanilla Linux
2.6.21-rc5 doesn't recognize TP Z61t as having HDAPS, see list starting
at line 517 of drivers/hwmon/hdaps.c

[Bug 93832] Re: screen melts, no output displayed

2007-04-02 Thread zdzichu
I can confirm it works. I can login and change resolutions:
$ xrandr
 SZ:Pixels Physical Refresh
*0 1440 x 900( 488mm x 488mm ) *60 50
 1 1280 x 800( 488mm x 488mm ) 60
 2 1280 x 768( 488mm x 488mm ) 60
 3 1024 x 768( 488mm x 488mm ) 60
 4800 x 600( 488mm x 488mm ) 60
 5640 x 480( 488mm x 488mm ) 60
 6 1440 x 1440 ( 488mm x 488mm ) 60

Physical dimensions reported are wrong. Also, external monitor hotplug
doesn't seem to work. By resolution chaning works OK.
