[Bug 1683034] Re: package plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text 0.9.2-3ubuntu15 failed to install/upgrade: dependency problems - leaving triggers unprocessed
do-release-upgrade did a partial upgrade, ending with error (don't remember specific right now). Afterward I tried to finish upgrade with 'apt full-upgrade' it ended with: Removing 'diversion of /usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.systemd1.service to /usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.systemd1.service.systemd by systemd-shim' dpkg-divert: error: rename involves overwriting '/usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.systemd1.service' with different file '/usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.systemd1.service.systemd', not allowed dpkg: error processing package systemd-shim (--remove): subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 2 At this point dialog window appeared about problem with distribution and a question if I want to report the bug. I agreed, and here's the report that was autogenerated. I was able to finish upgrade by manually removing '/usr/share/dbus-1 /system-services/org.freedesktop.systemd1.service.systemd' file. Just for kicks, I've downloaded Ubuntu 9.04 Alpha6, installed and dist-upgraded to latest development version. And this bug still isn't fixed... [Bug 135083] Re: resume from STR is very slow on Thinkpad z61t
Numbers? See first post. Also see link in second post about how little time kernel takes to resume. Rest of this time is consumed by userland -- pm-utils and ubuntu scripts, videocard resuming and so on. Fixing this need optimisation of whole stack and some additional work. Videocard issues are fixed by moving modesetting to kernel (there is some old video on Phoronix showing differences). Intel modesetting is available on Fedora for example. I am vaguely aware of other issues. Linux desktop stat()s too much files, waits too much and not paralleises things enough. Matthew Garrett's presentation from LUGRadio Live depicts sorry state of linux suspend and resume. So, there is hardware like OLPC XO-1, where optimised stack allows resuming in 300 ms. There are Macs, which are for all practical purposes identical hardware, yet with optimized OS X they resume in 3 seconds. And finally, there are Ubuntu systems, which resume slowly, ten times longer that macs, hundred times slower than XO-1. This bug is about deficency in Linux, about pointing to a problem (like famous bug #1). I'm aware that it cannot be fixed by just integrating other's work, but some development should be done by Ubuntu devs. -- resume from STR is very slow on Thinkpad z61t https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/135083 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 177492] Re: EXA is balls-achingly slow
Switch back to XAA is bad because: 1) Ubuntu users will be deprived of textured video and power saving (by the way of fb compression) for a year¹ 2) XAA is basically deprecated and its bugs are fixed as second priority. Do you want to release LTS with driver abandoned by upstream? ¹ textured video was disabled on intel driver shipped in 7.10. EXA will be disabled in 8.04. This way Ubuntu users will get those features no sooner than 8.10. -- EXA is balls-achingly slow https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/177492 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 153521] Re: fonts are blurred with subpixel rendering
This is a bug. Default configuration even turn off this atrocity for small fonts. The problem is small defined as 12 or less points. Which is insane, as small fonts are 7 or less. I have all fonts size 9 or 10, so this working (legacy) filter should be uses for all of them. Current Ubuntu configuration causes eyestrain and by extensions is dangerous for health. Morover, proposed change didn't affect banding much. There are still color stripes at letter side. [Bug 153521] fonts are blurred with subpixel rendering
Public bug reported: On Gutsy beta fonts are blurred when subpixel aliasing is enabled. They are sharp again when I check ,,best shapes'' rendering mode, thus disabling subpixel rendering. In Feisty fonts were sharp with subpixel enabled. I'm attaching two screenshots for comparison. One is from Feisty with supixel and sharp font. Second is from Gutsy. ,,best shapes'' are sharp, subpixel are blurred -- there are color bands on the sides of vertical elements. There werent's such bands in Feisty. [Bug 144453] Re: [gutsy] evince opens taller than the screen, hangs off the bottom
Some more information: screen size is 1440x900. Freshly mapped, too tall Evince info (xwinifo): Absolute upper-left X: 5 Absolute upper-left Y: 48 Relative upper-left X: 5 Relative upper-left Y: 48 Width: 1269 Height: 900 [...] Corners: +5+48 -166+48 -166--48 +5--48 -geometry 1269x900+5+48 Evince chooses win height as MIN from requested by document and screen size. In this case Evince got 900 px tall. And this is from upper edge of menu bar to lower edge of status bar. That's real, usable window size. But it's moved by 48px. Why? Because at the top of screen there is 24px tall panel. And window title bar, drawn by gtk-window-decorator, is 24px tall also. I don't now if Evince can check for ,,usable'' screen height and use this dimensions instead of ,,total'' screen height. Maybe there is some GTK call. It would be nice to get some Evince developer comment at this bug. -- [gutsy] evince opens taller than the screen, hangs off the bottom https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/144453 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 93832] Re: screen melts, no output displayed
I can confirm it works. I can login and change resolutions: $ xrandr SZ:Pixels Physical Refresh *0 1440 x 900( 488mm x 488mm ) *60 50 1 1280 x 800( 488mm x 488mm ) 60 2 1280 x 768( 488mm x 488mm ) 60 3 1024 x 768( 488mm x 488mm ) 60 4800 x 600( 488mm x 488mm ) 60 5640 x 480( 488mm x 488mm ) 60 6 1440 x 1440 ( 488mm x 488mm ) 60 Physical dimensions reported are wrong. Also, external monitor hotplug doesn't seem to work. By resolution chaning works OK. -- screen melts, no output displayed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/93832 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
