Have you tried also reinstalling software centre, aptdaemon, and all of their dependencies? Yes, I reinstalled it all. Still the same issue. Could you please try to run aptdaemon (the installing backend of sotware-center) in a terminal and paste the output here: Of course! Now I can't even open Software Center. Actually, it starts and after just some seconds it closes itself. Good news, just solved it. I noticed that running software-center as root (gksudo) didn't result in the above behaviour (autoclosing). So I checked /etc/apt/sources.list permissions, and it was as 640. I changed it to 644 and, voilà, it's all working now.
