This popup annoyance represents the major part of the questions tagged
"gnome-keyring" (https://askubuntu.com/questions/tagged/gnome-keyring)
all over the place.

And it all ends up with two MAIN issues: This one about the "modal"
focus of the prompt.

And the other one about naming which service the popup is prompting a
password for.

[Bug 1044549] Re: The "Access Prompt" randomly pop up!

2020-10-23 Thread Raphaël Droz
Several problems about bug triage itself:

- Since 2012, no corresponding bug has been opened upstream
(https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gcr/-/issues) : ping pkg-gnome-maintainers?
- upstream isn't subscribed to this bug either (@NielsDG?)
- The code about the gcr-prompter itself does not seem to have been
significantly touched since its creation by Stef Walter in 2012:
 * https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gcr/-/commits/master/ui/gcr-prompter-tool.c
 * https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gcr/-/commits/master/ui/gcr-prompt-dialog.c
 * https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gcr/-/commits/master/ui/gcr-unlock-renderer.c

except "Grab-keyboard logic" in
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gcr/-/commit/879b2734a9af3d8658b7b760c609daaf5b5d4fec
(part of 3.36.0) (@Dmitry Baryshkov)

Any chance this prompt could be fixed?

[Bug 1044549] Re: The "Access Prompt" randomly pop up!

2020-10-23 Thread Raphaël Droz
This 8-years problem still exists on 20.04 (!)

As commented in #4 back in 2012, the particular focus-mode triggers crazy
situations.
Ex: autologin + autostart app's and/or auto-move windows (dedicated desktop per
window)

After GDM (auto)login, the "gcr-prompter" can not be focused or even worst: not
even visible. But still holds a TOTAL focus (grabbing all inputs).
That means neither the popup nor the session can be closed, Gnome-shell can't
be restarted, and the only possibility is to switch to tty, use `ps`,
determinate the name of the process... what not even a workaround for a normal
user.

I think there is no reason that justify keeping a user from using
"Alt-F2 / restart".

About why this popup start in the first place is, IMHO, not a subject (I've 1
owncloud + 2 google accounts there and I can't tell why this come up)
... But *if* this popup arises it must not brick the whole session.

[Bug 1044549] Re: The "Access Prompt" randomly pop up!

2016-07-13 Thread Fred Béland
If the prompt is caused by a google online account with dual factor
authentication and you want to maintain the goa functionality, you can
set an App Password in your google account settings and enter it at the
prompt. This avoids having to delete the accounts.conf file.

This solution solved my issue on Linux Mint 17.3; my Evolution is set up
to use the gnome online accounts for imap functionality.

[Bug 1044549] Re: The Access Prompt randomly pop up!

2014-08-20 Thread alcachi
The accounts.conf file is also used by the new Ubuntu online accounts
configuration. The problem seems to be that after an upgrade the old
entry from the original Gnome online accounts application is left. The
new online accounts utility adds entries after the previous one which is
the one causing the problem.

This is the old entry in my case:

[Account account_1388648527]
Provider=google
Identity=x...@gmail.com
PresentationIdentity=x...@gmail.com
MailEnabled=true
CalendarEnabled=true
ContactsEnabled=true
ChatEnabled=true
DocumentsEnabled=true

Just editing the accounts.conf file and removing just this entry solved
the problem. If you remove the file you will have to rerun the new
online accounts application in order to recreate your new configuration.

Mathieu, Mark - did you by any chance have Google account configured in
previous distribution releases that you upgraded from? It did not
provide much integration with the system but I had it configured
nonetheless. It could be that the accounts were stored differently
previously and this would explain why was the
~/.config/goa-1.0/accounts.conf file still present after deleting all
the Google accounts in Online Accounts dialog.

2012-11-17 Thread Phillip Susi
I have not done anything with google or two factor authentication. This
popup keeps happening even when I don't seem to have anything open and
it won't accept my password. The fact that it somehow prevents you from
typing in another window, especially when you were in the middle of
doing that when it poped up is *extremely* annoying, as is the fact that
it pops up 3 times each time you try to cancel it before it finally goes
away.

2012-10-30 Thread Dawid Wróbel
It's gotten worse now, it pops up continuously even if you close the
dialog and, even worse, it locks the focus so you can't switch to the
other window. I had to switch to tty console and kill it from there to
be able to regain the control over the desktop.

Also it looks very dodgy when it shows up just like this out of nowhere.
It has no explanation whatsoever about the reason for asking the
password and which application is the real requester. It's just
suspicious.

I also use autologin if that's relevant.
