I seem to be experiencing this corrupt audio bug as well in Ubuntu 12.10, 64-bit. I hear loud ringing/noise when I start, un-pause, or seek video in VLC. The same circumstances also induce audio sync issues that last for several seconds. In my case this only occurs when I use HDMI audio - the sound control panel says I have a "GF119 HDMI Audio Controller". Mohammad Razavi, with vlc's sound output set to ALSA, sound is lost when you pause playback, and there doesn't seem to be a middle ground. I had the same problem with VLC on ubuntu 12.10. Changing the output module (Tools -> Preferences -> Audio -> Output module) from "Default" to "ALSA audio output" fixed the noise problem for me.
