Re: [Bug 106121] Re: feisty - this morning software updates: tty not turned on

2007-04-14 Thread Andrew Frank
i cannot update, because
- the lifecd of 7.04 does not allow sudo chroot -- i think this is a
bug, because it makes the life cd not usable for rescue operations

- apt seems to have changed configuration between 6.10 (what i am
currently running) and 7.04 as the location of the look file is changed
from /var/lib/apt/lists to var/lib. i am afraid other aspects have
changed too.. where is the configuration file for apt?
i think here is a bug in apt: after chroot apt should read the
configuration from the current root file system.

--
i have posted the lspci already (made from a 6.10 kernel)

thank you for your help
andrew

ps. before i install 7.04 afresh - what is the recommended approach to
install more than one ubuntu on the same disk? any hint to
documentation? thanks a lot!

the kernel 2.6.20-15, it works!
Very good, thanks to Ubuntu team!

[Bug 106121] Re: feisty - this morning software updates: tty not turned on

2007-04-13 Thread ssymo
The same error after the upgrade with kernel 2.6.20-14, I can't boot
anymore! Booting in recovery mode the error is:

Check root= bootarg cat /proc/cmdline
or missing modules, devices: cat /proc/modules ls /dev
ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/34e997f8-8586-4701-8e88-1841ed81fee7 does not esist.
Dropping to a shell!

I've already checked che uuid number and the file fstab but is all alright.
Waiting for the fix, can someone help me to install the old kernel? (unluckily
I haven't any other kernel installed)

the -13 kernel does not work for me - i am therefore not certain that
this is a kernal problem. i am back on a second installatoin with edgy
which i had on my disk.

can somebody point me to a good instruction how to have more than one
ubuntu installed on the same disk (i use a cludgy method to fix menu.lst
and fstab)?

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This sounds like a duplicate of bug 106063 could you please add
the output of 'lspci -vv' from a booting kernel? Thanks in advance.

i now work on 6.10 - so i think adding the lspci.txt does not help.

could someone post a working new kernel? i cannot apt-get update,
because the look in 6.10 and 7.04 seem not to be in the same directory,
and i have only a 6.10 running.

2007-04-13 Thread Brian Murray
The output of lspci, if the numeric switch is used, is the same
regardless of what kernel version you are using. The 2.6.20-15 version
of the kernel should be available now. Could you please update to it
and report back? Thanks!
