In the meantime I found this: add a line like this in your ~/.mplayer/config: [...] heartbeat-cmd=dcop kdesktop KScreensaverIface enable false /dev/null dcop kdesktop KScreensaverIface enable true /dev/null http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailaid=3582607group_id=185512atid=913573 but dcop is history.
