It also affects me... The same thing on 3 different computers with Ubuntu 10.10... And it is very ugly :/ The weird is that the clock applet and the indicator applet are from default at the panel... There is a work around in the upstream bug report. You can put the
following into your gtkrc to change the text colour on the clock:
style panel-clock
{
fg[NORMAL] = #FF
}
