After adding "precise-proposed" to my repository list, the problem went away.
Did not do any intersection test. Assume some udev or similar package upgrade
having fixed this.
So use you're favorite package manager to add proposed updates to your
repo list or simply:
replace at.archive.ubuntu.com by your favorite repository server
as root:
cat >> /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://at.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-proposed restricted main
multiverse universe
deb-src http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu precise main
^D
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
reboot
