The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release.  As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

I had the same problem on my T60p.  Enabling the moded in the BIOS fixed

Wow! Who'd a thought? I enabled the modem in the BIOS, and sound started
working!

my sound now works. it's not clear to me that I did anything to fix it.
I played around with the sound options and the next time I rebooted it

The only codec file in /proc/asound/card0/ is codec#0 and it has a size of
zero. I'm not sure what to do.
