[Bug 108637] Re: Upgrade from 6.10 to 7.04 failed in linux-image-2.6.20-15-generic preinst

2008-08-28 Thread Leann Ogasawara
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-
image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and
test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer
2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4.
Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced.
You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the
bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please
open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the
2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please
specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26
kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

2007-07-25 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Thanks in advance.

I did not notice that some comments were yours and some were another
person's. Sorry about that!

Hi Brian, as I did not upgrade a second time (why should I ;-) I
obviously did not experience the bug again!

[Bug 108637] Re: Upgrade from 6.10 to 7.04 failed in linux-image-2.6.20-15-generic preinst

2007-04-24 Thread Martin T Wirth
Seems to be trouble connecting to us.archive.ubuntu.com . I needed some
items to setup a new printer. The command:

apt-get install libxml1 libpng12-0 libpng12-dev libgtk1.2
libgtk1.2-common

-- is normal at first but locks when attempting to access the server, to
wit:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree

libpng12-0 is already the newest version.
libgtk1.2 is already the newest version.
libgtk1.2-common is already the newest version.
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  libxfcegui4-4 libxfce4mcs-client3 space-orbit-common libxfce4util4
libexo-0.3-0 libxfce4mcs-manager3
  libthunar-vfs-1-2
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.
The following extra packages will be installed:
  libc6-dev linux-libc-dev zlib1g-dev
Suggested packages:
  glibc-doc manpages-dev
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libc6-dev libpng12-dev libxml1 linux-libc-dev zlib1g-dev
0 upgraded, 5 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.

-- It gets no further than the last line showing Connecting and has
done so since last Saturday when it started and then quit part way
through the list. Now, after it times out, the messages read as follows:

Err http://us.archive.ubuntu.com edgy-updates/main libc6-dev 2.4-1ubuntu12.3
Cannot initiate the connection to us.archive.ubuntu.com:80
(2001:6b0:e:2018::158). - connect (101 Network is unreachable) [IP:
2001:6b0:e:2018::158 80]

-- So, it acts like the server, us.archive.ubuntu.com is down or DNS is
pointing to the wrong IP address. A quick check using the browser seems
to agree as I can access de.archive.ubuntu.com and see directories
there. Unfortunately, they do not seem to have the packages I need.

Best Regards,

I should also have mentioned that a ping of us.archive.ubuntu.com fails
while others in the ubuntu.com domain pong normally.
