Hi Michael,

Thanks for testing and the feedback. I'm marking this Fix Released
against Intrepid. Please reopen if you see any regressions with this
prior to Intrepid's final release (ie set status back to New).
Thanks.

[Bug 108912] Re: gnome-system-monitor reports wrong upload/download speed

2008-08-29 Thread Michael
BUG SOLVED

Very good news!
This bug is completely solved with an Linux 2.6.27-1-generic #1 SMP Sat Aug 23
23:20:09 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux kernel!

Even when a very low refresh is chosen (=0,25s = ultra low!), then the graphic
keeps still up with the right speed!
The kernel I used for this test is the
linux-image-2.6.27-1-generic_2.6.27-1.2_i386.deb package downloaded from
http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux/linux-image-2.6.27-1-generic_2.6.27-1.2_i386.deb.
I installed this package without any problems on a Ubuntu 8.04 system with an
2.6.24-21-generic #1 kernel.

If any further info is needed place let me know.
Michael

[Bug 108912] Re: gnome-system-monitor reports wrong upload/download speed

2008-08-28 Thread Leann Ogasawara
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-
image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and
test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer
2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4.
Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced.
You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the
bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please
open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the
2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please
specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26
kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

No real test-machine(s) available at the moment (for at least 4 months).
Is the test still valid when executing on Sun xVM VirtualBox 1.6.4?

Hi Michael,

Even if you are unable to test via real hw, I think it would be good to
know your results testing using virtualbox. I found bug 207415 which
I've marked as a duplicate of this. Maybe DelSol - the bug reporter
from the duplicate bug can also help test and give feedback. Thanks.

[Bug 108912] Re: gnome-system-monitor reports wrong upload/download speed

2008-08-12 Thread Michael
Unfortunately the gnome-system-monitor cannot YET tested with the Sun xVM
VirtualBox 1.6.4 (host=Ubuntu 8.04) :-(
I downloaded the Alpha 3 - Released July 24th, 2008 Ubuntu 8.10.
I created started successfully a new Virtual Machine and used the .iso with
the following settings (see picture 1.png)
After choosing the first option (Try Ubuntu without..) or the second (Install
Ubuntu) option the Virtual Machine caused a Kernel panic (see picture 2.png)
So on emulated hardware I was (YET) not able to start the Alpha 3 version of
Ubuntu 8.10.
To be continued...

2008-08-12 Thread DelSol
Well, the problem is gone now. I don't really know when it happend, but
I guess one of the updates fixed it since I didn't change my hardware. I
changed one thing tho - I am using WiFi now instead of a normal ethernet
cable. I can't really recall if that could have fixed the problem.
Sorry.

2008-08-11 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hi Michael,

I linked the upstream bug report at the kernel bugzilla (
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10600
) to this launchpad bug report. It seems the bug reporter from upstream
commented this was resolved with the 2.6.25 kernel. Would you be willing to
test the latest Alpha for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release which
contains and even newer 2.6.26 based kernel. For information regarding the
latest Alpha release for Intrepid refer to http://www.ubuntu.com/testing .
Please let us know your results if you are able to test. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 108912] Re: gnome-system-monitor reports wrong upload/download speed

2007-09-22 Thread Michael
I have already tested it with the latest development GG release of Ubuntu Tribe
5 Released August 23rd, 2007
I've tested it with the Live CD, so without installing it on a partition.
Unfortunately the problem STILL exists.
I have made a new screen dump as proof.
However, another graphic tool pload displays correctly the graphical network
activity; but this works also on my current FF (Feisty Fawn).
It is a cosmetic problem, so very low priority in my opinion.
Sorry to give this (bad) news.
Good luck to anyone who tries to solve this.

I will test it on GG. THAT is for SURE I still have to download and install GG.
It it a risk because I have only ONE computer. I have to make an apart

I am also very curious if it still exists in GG. It can take a while before I
post the results of the test (hopefully BEFORE the release)

2007-04-23 Thread Michael
It does happen by every upload or/and download.
Also by apt-get install
My download is very constant.
Example
When I install software with apt-get install, then the right download-speed is
shown in the progress info in the terminal.
Also when downloading/ upping with Azureus a constant speed will be shown be
in the upload/download statistics.
As a proof a have added a screen dump of Azureus when downloading a torrent.
Also Wireshark (previously named ethereal) show also a constant speed of the up
and downloads.
I hope you believe me and can solve this issue.
If you need more info, please ask me.
