Can you switch to the next song after it freezes by going into system monitor and killing pulseaudio? If so I think I have the same bug. As far as I can tell this has nothing to do with banshee. If I try to play music files directly from nautilus it will work (vlc, banshee, rhythmbox) however I notice that on banshee and rhythmbox sometimes it will freeze and you have to move the time slider and it will start playing or it says idle and crashes. Can uncrash program by ending process pulseaudio. First noticed this bug with vlc when trying to play files from media library as the files won't show up or play but work fine when running from file manager.
