#11 solves the problem for me as well. With a fresh Raring Ringtail install and a new Dia install, the persistence file is not in the .dia folder. Adding the one from #11 works. Fix #7 doesn't work here.
With a fresh install of Dia, the directory {HOME}/.dia/ doesn't contain a file
called persistence. It only contains directories objects, shapes, sheets (all
empty). Creating the file myself and inserting the xml doesn't work.
Any other suggestions?

A work around: look for this entry in $(HOME)/.dia/persistence dia:boolean role=view_antialised from Dia developer Hans Breuer: You can work around it by not using the DiaGdkRenderer for display rendering. WIth a useable user interface edit the configuration file $(HOME)/.dia/persistence to include: dia:boolean role=view_antialised dia:attribute name=booleanvalue dia:boolean val=true/ /dia:attribute /dia:boolean i.e. make the antialiased rendering default. Still happens with up to date raring packages. After starting Dia, one sees its window for about one second and then it crashes. Yes, it's still possible to run Dia from the command line, but it's barely usable from there, as most functions are missing.
