Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xsupplicant

Can we look at upgrading xsupplicant to version 1.2.6 or greater so it
has better support for Atheros cards, as indicated in there change logs.
also there was a critical bug fix in version 1.2.8

This is a bugfix version, with a single new feature. We can now handle
the use of Cisco's "Network EAP" when using LEAP authentication.
Please see the latest examples in etc/xsupplicant.conf for more
information on how to make use of this method of authentication.

It should be noted that there is a critical bug fix that will prevent a
possible remote root exploit. Everyone using Xsupplicant versions prior
to this should upgrade ASAP.

Changes:
Version 1.2.8
        - Fixed a problem that kept wired authentication from working.
        - Fixed an issue that would cause authentication to be slow.
        - Fixed a bug that would prevent some Linux OS versions from compiling.
        - Misc. other fixes
        - Updated documentation to show that iwlib is required on Linux.
        - Added the ability to associate using methods other than 'open system'.

Version 1.2.6
        - As promised, the madwifi specific driver code is now gone. Madwifi
users should use the regular wireless extensions calls from now
          on.
        - Added support for TTLS-EAP-MD5
        - Fixed a bug from 1.2.5 that caused a segfault when a reauthentication
          took place.
        - Clean up some memory leaks.
        - Clean up some potential buffer overflows.
