I am sorry about the late response. I have not been logged in for several days. I do not use the desktop effects option. I have not experienced this problem with the AMD-64 build. I do consider the problem fixed. I added a window switcher to the panel. Once I did this, I could scroll though a list of minimized programs and restore the selected program to full size. This is different than having minimized buttons, but I think it is OK. I have since upgraded my system to AMD64x2 processor and Ubuntu AMD64. The minimized buttons work like they originally did in the 32-bit Ubuntu (window switcher is not required). Thank you for your help.
