[Bug 1173741] Re: Touchpad stops responding after a while

2013-07-30 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Petteri P, as per
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063lc=encc=usdlc=ensw_lang=product=5144736#N903
an update is available for your BIOS (F.0F). If you update to this, does
it change anything?

If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1173741] Re: Touchpad stops responding after a while

2013-05-03 Thread Petteri P
I tried to install the 3.9 kernel several times without success. Running
the dpkg ended up in an error. I however tried to boot to the new kernel
that was displayed in the boot options, but it failed to boot:

kernel panic - not syncing: no init found. Try passing init=options to
kernel

Meanwhile Ubuntu updated to 3.2.0-41 version. That didn't solve my
issue.

I can test some more if needed.

Thanks for the efforts.

[Bug 1173741] Re: Touchpad stops responding after a while

2013-04-29 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.9 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1173741] Re: Touchpad stops responding after a while

2013-04-28 Thread Petteri P
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected running-unity staging

** Description changed:

Touchpad stops working shortly after logging in. This happens e.g when I
start Firefox and type something for example in the search box and hit
enter. When on the search results page the touchpad is not responding
  anymore.

If I plug in an external USB mouse I can continue working although
  touchpad is not functioning.

In my startup application I have the following line:
  syndaemon -i 1 -d

If I disable this then the problem disapppears (I am almost sure). But
it gets really tough to type if the touchpad is active as the pointer
  jumps all over.

  petteri@ENVY14:~$ uname -a
  Linux ENVY14 3.2.0-40-generic #64-Ubuntu SMP Mon Mar 25 21:22:10 UTC 2013
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

  petteri@ENVY14:~$ cat /proc/version_signature
  Ubuntu 3.2.0-40.64-generic 3.2.40

The following produced an error, but log is however attached.
  petteri@ENVY14:~$ sudo lspci -vnvn lspci-vnvn.log
pcilib: sysfs_read_vpd: read failed: Connection timed out

I have available the Xorg log file and evtest files as described in
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection if needed.

My first bug report, please let me know if something obvious is missing.

[Bug 1173741] Re: Touchpad stops responding after a while

2013-04-28 Thread Petteri P
The problem really does disappear after I remove the syndaemon -i 1 -d
from my startup applications. The touchpad works fine then, but I can't
find a way to disable it while typing.
