[Bug 1176370] Re: Ethernet connection not stable

2013-07-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Mark Lok, could you please test the latest mainline kernel
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.11-rc1-saucy/ and
report the results?

** Tags added: needs-upstream-testing

** Summary changed:

- Ethernet connection not stable
+ 1969:1083 Ethernet connection not stable

** Description changed:

I have upgraded Ubuntu 13.04 from 12.10 and after installing it the wired
network got unstable.
- On Ubuntu 13.04 the wired connection always lost in a few minutes after
connection established. The system didn't shows any error or disconnected
notification for that. The network icon on the system tray still shows normal
connected icon. But i couldn't browse any website or ping any ip address on
the internet.

connection established. The system didn't shows any error or disconnected
notification for that. The network icon on the system tray still shows normal
connected icon. But i couldn't browse any website or ping any ip address on
the internet.
And after unplug and plug in the ethernet cable again, the wired network
works fine for a few more minutes and then the problem shows again.
- Before upgrating to 13.04, the ethernet network works great on Ubuntu 12.04
and 12.10 (they are both 32 bit). After that I have tried erase Ubuntu and
reinstall 13.04 but it didn't help.

2013-06-24 Thread Dinçer Kavraal
Affects me too. When in network manager, Wired connection options button
gives me this error:
Did not find a connection with UUID '(null)'.

I have too upgraded from 12.10 (all the way down to 10.04, because of
this, reinstalled ubuntu from scratch --formatted disk-- but same)

2013-06-24 Thread Davide Vidal
Just wondering about dual boot...how many of the affected are running in dual
boot set-ups?
I tried to disable allow windows to turn off the peripheral in safe mode (or
something similar, my system is in Italian language) on my Win 7 partition,
rebooted into Ubuntu and got non issues so far (uptime 2 days 4 hours).
Hope this helps

2013-05-09 Thread Mark Lok
I tested the alx driver solution from Tomasz's reply in
http://askubuntu.com/questions/287779/wired-network-is-not-stable-in-
ubuntu-13-04-64-bit and found out that is the 802.11 wireless driver
ath9k caused this problem.

From the related post: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2139977 some
said installing ald modules can slove the problems, sadly it not works for my
laptop.
But i found out something while trying to install alx driver:
After I unloaded all network-related dirvers in the installation and loaded
ethernet driver atl1c again, my wired connection works great! But when I reload
ath9k(802.11 wireless driver for Atheros chipset), the wired network drops
problem shows again.

The alx solution was founded here:
http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/networking/alx

Title have been changed.
I have just installed a 64bit version of Ubuntu, and the bug did show up again.
I also tried some kernel older versions from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ , seems that the bug does not
exist in the kernel which older than 3.6. But thses kernel has some
compatibility problems with my display driver.
