[Bug 1201403] Re: Unity performance issue on intel gpu
manfreed, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-intel REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful. [Bug 1201403] Re: Unity performance issue on intel gpu
I haven't observed anything like this either. When the system/unity starts to lag, can you use perf to profile to see where the CPU is going? And also checking xrestop and /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_gem_objects would be useful to check video memory consumption. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1201403 Title: Unity performance issue on intel gpu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1201403/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1201403] Re: Unity performance issue on intel gpu
Hi! Thanks for your answer. I'm not familiar with perf, could you give me a few pointers how and when to use it? I'been monitoring the cpu usage of the compiz and x processes during the day (my coputer was running for days now). Compiz used 8-10%, X used usually around 40, but sometimes it went up to 80%. I killed the compiz process (it restarted), after that compiz and x processes are hardly using any cpu. here is i915_gem_objects before the compiz-killing: 3614 objects, 1480253440 bytes 2154 [226] objects, 854626304 [132976640] bytes in gtt 16 [2] active objects, 117428224 [16715776] bytes 2138 [224] inactive objects, 737198080 [116260864] bytes 185 unbound objects, 114356224 bytes 45 purgeable objects, 9420800 bytes 30 pinned mappable objects, 42258432 bytes 27 fault mappable objects, 1089536 bytes 2145386496 [268435456] gtt total Xorg: 2029 objects, 44576 bytes (25067520 active, 274001920 inactive, 185163776 unbound) compiz: 794 objects, 635420672 bytes (117428224 active, 170696704 inactive, 291303424 unbound) chrome: 870 objects, 549015552 bytes (0 active, 407052288 inactive, 121958400 unbound) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1201403 Title: Unity performance issue on intel gpu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1201403/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1201403] Re: Unity performance issue on intel gpu
Compiz is not expected to be using that memory... And neither should chrome. I think you have a resource leak emanating from mesa (or at least mesa on behalf of the client). The easiest way to use perf (after installing it with apt-get install linux-tools) is sudo perf top.

I have a similar cpu on saucy, and don't see anything like this ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) = xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1201403 Title: Unity performance issue on intel gpu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1201403/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
