Re: [Bug 120799] Re: error running apt-get update
Many thanks I believe that your suspicion is correct - I am trying to remove a swap error on sources.list having mishandled the vim editor. I have a feeling I shall have to re-install ubuntu which I am running with windows on a separate hd - that is unless I can get rid of ftp://ftp.debian .org_dists_sarge_main_binary-i386_Packages which must be quite large as a file. memory available, sorry cannot say ! What is the size of /var/lib/apt/lists/ftp.debian .org_dists_sarge_main_binary-i386_Packages, and how much memory did your system have available when you tried this command? And, um... why, if this is an Ubuntu system, are you using Debian package repositories? I have a strong suspicion that that would cause problems. ** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: None = apt Assignee: (unassigned) = Micah Cowan Status: Unconfirmed = Needs Info -- error running apt-get update https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120799 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 120799] Re: error running apt-get update
You can get the size of a file with the command (in the terminal): ls -l /var/lib/apt/lists/ftp.debian.org_dists_sarge_main_binary- i386_Packages. I strongly suspect the answer you'll end up getting, is that a sources.list file with debian repositories is not a supported configuration, and that we must therefore close this bug out; but I'm not comfortable saying that _just_ yet. However, you're probably right that a reinstall may be necessary: chances are pretty good that various packages have gotten a bit messed up. It still doesn't seem like you should get that sort of error from this sort of problem, though (which is why I haven't closed the bug out). -- error running apt-get update https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120799 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 120799] Re: error running apt-get update
Thank you for your reply - I have since reinstalled and all systems are working ok. You can now close the bug out as it was all due to bad manipulation on my part. I should have thought of ls -l for the file details, still learning...
