[Bug 1245162] Re: printing hangs reporting 'processing'

2016-09-04 Thread nissim kaufmann
I had very long or hung "Processing Job" on the HP LaserJet 4000 while
HPLIP reported "Job Completed." hp-doctor reported everything is fine.
Linuxmint 18 64-bit on Thinkpad T400.

Someone suggested change driver from Postscript to PCL or vice versa.

I uninstalled the printer, installed it with CUPS web interface,
choosing PCL3 instead of the "Postscript (recommended)" driver, and it
works great now!

[Bug 1245162] Re: printing hangs reporting 'processing'

2013-11-03 Thread Sergio Callegari
Hi, made the tests...

Can ping printer.
Nmap shows open ports 9100 9101 9102 and 80

Cups snmp seems correct

network socket://192.168.1.100:9100 HP Officejet 4500 G510n-z
Officejet 4500 G510n-z MFG:HP;MDL:Officejet 4500

Cups dnssd gives

DEBUG: sent=0, count=0

that I don't know how to interpret, but maybe is what expected

lpinfo and avahi-browse all find the printer

activating debugging, cups error log shows no error and merely stops
being filled at a certain point

Cups filters the data regularly.

As a matter of fact, issues start when I try to send raw data to the
printer

lp -d printer -oraw file

does not work either using pcl files that the printer should understand or text
files.
Job immediately goes in held status and if resumed remains in 'pending' status
forever

Sending stuff with nc does not work either

nc -w1 printer 9100 file

where printer is my printer ip address and file is either a pcl or a
text file hangs.

From these test, I would tend to think that the printer is broken,
wasn't it for the fact that

1) It properly communicates with the computer when used as a scanner
2) When I borrowed a mac to make some tests, it printed wireless from it with
no issues
3) status pages from the printer are all OK

This is driving me crazy... I believe that at this point I should
borrow another HP wireless printer to test... but I cannot find anywone
to borrow it from.

[Bug 1245162] Re: printing hangs reporting 'processing'

2013-11-03 Thread Sergio Callegari
Got it!

Not an ubuntu or cups bug in the end, at least so it appears.

It is the wifi access point / adsl unit.

With the zyxel prestige 600 it does not work

With any other wifi access point / adsl it works.

Now... why should an access point interfere with lan to lan
communication on the 9100 port?

[Bug 1245162] Re: printing hangs reporting 'processing'

2013-10-30 Thread Till Kamppeter
Please first make sure all hanging print jobs are removed. Try to remove
them at first via a job viewer or via cancel -a. If needed kill any
remaining hanging processes.

Then please follow the instructions of the sections CUPS error_log and
Capturing print job data on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems. Thanks.
