[Bug 125484] Re: gnome-cups-icon ("Printing Notification Icon") should not have a visible menu entry by default

2007-12-18 Thread Till Kamppeter
Bas, you also need to uninstall gnome-cups-icon. Then you install
system-config-printer (if not done yet). The icon applet coming with
system-config-printer now works the same way as the old gnome-cups-icon
and system-config-printer contains everything needed, especially the job
viewer application.

Gnome-cups-manager is not maintained any more. So please check with
system-config-printer and report a bug on system-config-printer if
something is not working like expected.

[Bug 125484] Re: gnome-cups-icon ("Printing Notification Icon") should not have a visible menu entry by default

2007-11-28 Thread Bas Janssen
Looks like gnome-cups-manager is still needed, though. I had the same
problem and removed the gnome-cups-manager package as VF suggested. But
that leads to a new problem: I get a different icon in the system tray
while printing and right clicking this icon and choosing 'open' to look
at current print jobs results in an error, saying I need gnome-cups-
manager. So I've re-installed the package and deselected the icon in the
menu like Ray_M_From_MO did.

Oh, sorry, and I should have mentioned: If the icon is showing up, then
gnome-cups-manager is still installed, so you should try removing that
package instead.

I'm not sure why there's such widespread confusion about this, but: The
new printing system is just a new way of configuring CUPS. IT DOES NOT
REPLACE CUPS. CUPS is still the backend!

[Bug 125484] Re: gnome-cups-icon ("Printing Notification Icon") should not have a visible menu entry by default

2007-10-22 Thread Ray_M_From_MO
This is more than a visual bug. On my system, I am unable to remove CUPS
via the Synaptic Package Manager. This is (I think) because when I mark
cupsys for removal, it also includes gnome-desktop, which I cannot
unmark after that. Needless to say, I do not apply the removals. I am
unsure if the new printer setup tool works at all under my system, since
anytime I do a 'Print' function and look at the printer configuration,
it still denotes CUPS. Hopefully, this can be corrected quickly. As for
the view under the menu, I simply deselected the CUPS Printer icon for
now.

And yes, I did the upgrade from Feisty to Gutsy.

[Bug 125484] Re: gnome-cups-icon ("Printing Notification Icon") should not have a visible menu entry by default

2007-08-09 Thread Till Kamppeter
printerdrake would need a complete replacement of the UI, and system-
config-printer also contains important features to make up an easy to
use printer setup tool, especially Plug'n'Print. So we decided on
system-config-printer as the new printer setup tool.

This will be removed as g-c-p will be removed and system-config-printer
installed for Tribe5

But this bug have to be solved.
