[Bug 1266343] Re: Sennheiser USB headset not listed as device in aplay -l

2014-11-01 Thread hipitihop
I have finally managed to get this working as follows:

1. /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
  a) comment out all references to # options snd-usb-audio index=-2
  b) add lines at end of file
   # Force Sennheiser PC 8
   alias snd-card-3 snd-usb-audio
   options snd-usb-audio index=3 vid=0x1395 pid=0x0025

2. Test by manually loading module `sudo modprobe snd-usb-audio` and
confirm 'aplayl -l' shows card and you can select and test it in sound
settings.

3. Organise to always load this module on boot by adding following line to
/etc/modules
snd-usb-audio

[Bug 1266343] Re: Sennheiser USB headset not listed as device in aplay -l

2014-03-09 Thread hipitihop
I have confirmed that a full installation of 12.04 on a laptop (not just
a live cd) also works fine with this headset. So I am baffled how to
find out what is causing the issue on my specific machine/install. It
may just be a waste of everyone's time to try and debug this issue but
as a dev I hate to sweep things under the carpet as issues invariably
return at some point.

2014-01-07 Thread hipitihop
In order to try and compare why the live cd 12.04.3 works, I booted into
it (where the sennheiser works fine) and took the following traces to
help compare with the installed 12.04.3 which does not work:

lsusb -vvv output: http://paste.ubuntu.com/6707885/
dmesg trace after boot: http://paste.ubuntu.com/6707904/
udevadm info -a -p http://paste.ubuntu.com/6707908/

sudo update-usbiids

Try different USB ports. I've seen USB audio devices misbehave when
plugged into USB ports that Linux has marked as USB 1.1 speed *even if
the port is actually capable of 2.0 or greater).

I ran 'sudo update-usbids' and rebooted and tried different ports usb3
and usb2, I can't detect a difference in behaviour. Note it is listed as
Bus 003 Dev 002 via lsusb but this was the case prior to update-usbids
too.
