Public bug reported:

After doing a dist-upgrade today and rebooting, most appearance-related
settings are not applied. (Wrong, aliased fonts; wrong theme, missing
keybindings...). If I run "gnome-settings-daemon" from a Terminal, it
starts without error and my settings are corrected. Did some recent
change remove gnome-settings-daemon from the Ubuntu session definition
or something?
