Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg
I have since upgrading my computer to a core 2 duo, been experiencing random 'freezing' where my mouse still moves, but my keyboard, and X in general is completely unresponsive (alt+prntscrn+k/b/etc still work but I cant even toggle caps/num lock). I can ssh to it and restart X and my memory usage of 2+gigs shrinks to under 300megs, and my system is completely cured (until Xorg eats my processor clocks again). The crash comes all at once, and is very sudden, but I noticed after sudo ps aux'ing on the locked box through ssh, that the process '/usr/X11R6/bin/X :0 -br -audit 0 -auth /var/lib/gdm/:0.Xauth -nolisten tcp vt9' has a status of SLs+ and is consuming 5:20 compared to firefox's 1:10. Also closing firefox-bin and all occurances of it does very little to negate the processor and memory hogging of Xorg. I believe this is related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/98783 and I have entered a forum post http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3120369 summarizing my experiences and the attempts to troubleshoot this from this forum thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=412125&highlight=feisty+freezes. I can happily upload anything necessary to help trouble shoot this. For important dmesg output, lspci output, and ps output check the forum post. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Xorg eating computer time, hard crashing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129895 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
