I don't know if it's a myth problem or a v4l problem. No, I cannot remember any problems with scantv. I also cannot reproduce Debian bug #430079 [1]. This seems to be a caused by improperly handling of static struct member. As reported by Martin Denn (patch submitter) it was fixed. This was unreproducible for me, so patch did not changed anything for me. I hope this help others who reported problems. xawtv runs fine until you hit 'q' to quit at which point, it also segfaults.
