I just tested it. The same problems persist. After scim is selected as the Keyboard Input Method: 1. Dash opens but one cannot type in the search screen. 2. The backspace and delete keys on the keyboard do not work. I have attached here a sample of what happens when using the backspace and delete keys while scim is active. Note that the date of the sample is May, 2014. I just did it again, and replicated the same. Attached in next post. it is not nice to hijack Debian's BTS before doing your own triage and making damn sure it is affecting Debian as well. FWIW, I cannot reproduce this in Ubuntu trusty, anyhow.
