[Bug 1320833] Re: Synaptics touchpad not detected on an HP F5Y33UA running Ubuntu 12.04

2014-05-22 Thread Abhishek Bhat
I am running ubuntu 12.04 LTS on acer Aspire E1-522
From net I found this version uses Synaptic touchpad.

I am facing similar problem.

I have tried your solution using upstream kernel
uname -a
Linux advait 3.15.0-031500rc1-generic #201404131835 SMP Sun Apr 13 22:36:23 UTC
2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

but still xinput --list shows
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ PS/2 Generic Mouseid=11 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3[master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=6[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=7[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Sleep Button id=8[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ HD WebCam id=9[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=10 [slave keyboard (3)]

[Bug 1320833] Re: Synaptics touchpad not detected on an HP F5Y33UA running Ubuntu 12.04

2014-05-21 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.15 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

2014-05-19 Thread David Galbraith
apport information

** Description changed:

- I got a new laptop that came with Windows 8 but Windows 8 is bad so I
- uninstalled that and put Ubuntu 12.04 on there instead. When I had
- Windows 8 the touchpad worked fine but now it doesn't do anything, no
- scrolling and no clicking. So I attached the output of dmesg and the
- contents of /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /proc/bus/input/devices like the
- wiki says I should. I hope we can fix this, thanks!
